Today, undercover officers working prostitution operations arrested eight people — four men and four women, Shank said.

Three of the women are Canton residents and the fourth lives in Alliance. They range in age from 26 to 44. Three of the men also are Canton residents and the fourth is from Massillon. The men ranged from 41 to 65 years old.

The Repository generally does not name misdemeanor crime suspects.

All of the arrests occurred in what police called the Newton Zone, an area that police have said in the past has been plagued by prostitution.

Three arrests took place at Newton Avenue and Fourth Street NW and arrests also were made at Fourth Street and Brown Avenue NW, 11th Street and Shorb Avenue NW, Sixth Street and Market Avenue N and 12th Street and Shorb Avenue NW, Shank said.

All of those arrested were charged with misdemeanors involving solicitation.

CANTON An exotic dancer agreed Wednesday to tell a jury about the "private dance" that ended with her clients stripped of their clothes and their money.

Veronica L. Cox, 21, of Uhrichsville, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of kidnapping. All the charges carried gun specifications.

Stark County Common Pleas Judge Lee Sinclair sentenced Cox to four years in prison.

As part of an agreement with county prosecutors, Cox must testify truthfully at the upcoming trial of co-defendant Jason L. Robinson, 29, of 1224 Woodland Ave. SE in Massillon, and cooperate with any further investigations.

On Feb. 8, Cox and Robinson robbed two men at a Tuscarawas Township motel who had paid for a "private dance" from Cox, according to court papers.

"She had no clue this was going to end this way, although she participated once it started," said Cox's attorney, Rick Pitinii.

In a written statement to Stark County sheriff's deputies, Cox said she was a dancer at The Tracks bar in Massillon. The two men wanted to see her dance, but her shift had ended, so a friend, who she called Reggie, arranged for Cox to dance for the men at Country Motel at 12268 Lincoln St. W.

County prosecutors contend that "Reggie" is actually Robinson.

Cox said a man she knew as Reggie's brother also was at the motel for part of the time.

Reggie and one of the men smoked what Cox said she believed to be marijuana. When she was about to start the dance, Reggie told the men they would have to pay more money, according to the statement.

The men said they didn't have any more money. Reggie pulled a pistol, put it to their heads and made them take off their clothes, according to Cox's statement.

Cox then duct-taped the two men together as they stood back-to-back, and Reggie put them in the bathroom, according to a sheriff's report.

After Reggie rifled through the men's clothing, he and Cox left, with Cox driving the men's van, the statement said.

In court papers, county prosecutors say Robinson and Cox took $500 in cash from one of the men and a pocket knife from the other.

Assistant Stark County Prosecutor Fred Scott declined to comment on any specifics of the case before the trial.

Robinson is scheduled to go to trial next week. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of kidnapping. All of the charges carry firearm specifications.

I'm sure they wanted a "dance" but this is why you never let boyfriends or any other guy get involved to arrange things.

I've picked up a few ladies in the past but most of the time when I go out I never pick the ladies up. I have a pretty good idea of how to spot potential stings, but I was wondering if you had any tips on how to spot ladies that might potentially try to hustle me.

First read the 22 rules of mongering. There's a link on the home page of this site. Second, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is a set up. For instance, "I've got this hot friend that loves to do doubles, just give me $20 for the babysitter and I'll be right back". Or, "it will be so much better if I can get high first". Worse would be, she gets the friend and they rob you. Also, don't fall for the idea of using her place instead of the $20 for a motel.

Most important, trust your gut. If you get a bad feeling than drop her off and move on to others.

Also, it's OK to show her the money but don't pay up front. Maybe half if she really insists, remember she has been ripped off before by someone else. And use the money as a barginning tool to do a good job. If you offer 20 and she want's 30, then give 20 for the BJ but 5 or 10 if she does a good job ,or swallows, licks the balls, whatever you like.

Probably the scenario you will run into the most is where the SW wants to "see" something you have like an Ipod or cellphone. Potential snatch and run situation. The other one is simply where she may try to sneak your wallet or whatever from you while servicing you.

I had one, a long time ago, claim she had a knife and was going to cut me unless I gave her money from my ATM. Plain robbery situation but I knew an ATM where a cop was on duty 24 hours a day. Drove there....he got her out of my car the same way an exterminator gets rid of vermin....I drove along my merry way.

"flowers in glass tubes"?

LOL...yea, if you ever go into a convience store in the ghetto you might see a display of little glass tubes with flowers (or some other trinket) in them. The glass tubes are for smoking crack but they can't just have a sign that says "crack pipes here" I had a SW ask the guy at a drive thru in Akron for a "rose" once. I thought she was buying cheap wine but he gives her a glass tube. There is one drive thru in Canton (probably a lot of them) that sells crack smoking kits complete with a glass pipe, chor and a lighter.

I'll take a SW to the drive thru after I know her but I'll be up front about what she can buy when I'm driving.

BTW...I've seen a few possibles around in my travels but I'm sticking mostly to regulars. I picked up Tanya the other day. The Ambassador has been closed since a car ran into the office/living space of the old couple that owned the place. I see people working there off and on but no signs of it reopening. I always thought that a place like that could be a gold mine if you could put up with the kind of people that would use a hotel like that on a regular basis. You could make a killing if you turned the office into a walk up convience store. How much would you sell in cigs, condoms and "flowers in glass tubes" alone?

CANTON A prostitution sweep by Canton Police Department's Neighborhood Impact Unit picked up four women Friday morning.

Three were booked into the Stark County Jail on misdemeanor prostitution charges and a fourth was turned over to a rehabilitation center "because of the condition she was in," said Sgt. Mark Fox, who heads that unit.

The officers used a marked police cruiser, two bicycles and an unmarked cruiser carrying an undercover officer whom the women solicited for sex, he said.

The unit focused on the "Weed and Seed" area, which includes the neighborhoods from 12th Street NW to Sixth Street SW and from Walnut Avenue NE west to the park system.

"This time of year, obviously, you can see an upswing in the number of people out," Fox said. "We wanted to send a message out from this unit in the area we're working in, and we're hoping it will be the first of many such sweeps."

I'll have to check my favorite names on the StarK County courts site Monday to see who was picked up. Maybe some day these girls will learn to keep a working phone so they can lessen their time on the street. Probably not though.

for the info on the Ambassador. Yeh, I wondered if that was the girl you had reported on. Looked very nice, but like you said and I felt, a little too out there and a little too visible. If I wasn't so tired yesterday, I would have pulled down Shorb and see if she came away from the intersection some. Catching both lights, I had a good look around, didn't see anything too out of whack. Some guy at that pizza or rib joint, whatever it is and the usual people hanging around the gas station on Fulton.

Another place I have seen a lot of activity is that apartment building to the left on Cleveland just as you come to the light on 12th.

Anyhow, just sharing info. I don't do the street scene much anymore, stick to a couple regulars and the occasional chat line catch. I was tempted by that pink short skirt though, if she's the one you saw I'm jealous...:0) If you get a second round, let us know.

The body could be the "Kim" I saw earlier in the week but when I picked her up she was in more typical Canton SW clothes. You don't often see girls in movie standard SW attire. I would worry that she was displaying her wares practially in front of the police substation at 12th and Shorb. She's either a decoy or the rare hot newbie that didn't know any better.

Was coming thru East Canton today, hadn't been thru there in many years. Saw the motels mentioned here...mist etc. What about the Ambassador?

Anyhow, I came up 12th and just past Shorb before Fulton, there was a hot little thing wearing a pink short skirt, heels and white clingy top. Looked very hot and very young. 18-19 maybe and maybe 100 pounds? Anybody know of her? It was around 5:15. Couldn't stop as I was late getting home and tired anyhow. Street was very busy and I don't like being that visible. Wouldn't mind seeing that out on a weekend cruise when things are a little quieter.

Sorry but this is about a week late. I saw a unfamiliar SW on Fulton and got a look. Picked her up on a side street and ageeded on a trip to a room.
