1) Can you advise on the music played at these places? Salsa, merengue or reggaeton.

2) Is the A / C good in these places? Even when I was young and in shape, after 2 songs I was sweating like a pig.

3) Is there a dress code?

4) Are these smoking or non smoking places?

2. It's alright. Some places like rainbow are more of a sit down and chat while the others are more or a tight room clubs style.

3. Just dress normal.

4. I didn't see anyone smoking inside, so I would say no smoking.

Not being fluent in Spanish will severely limit your options in Miami strip clubs, and stifle negotiations for action. Fort Lauderdale is going to be better for the English only visitor.

These cafeterias? Impossible.

I've never gone to any strip clubs or hostess bars in Miami. Are they safe for a middle aged white guy? Do I need to be fluent in Spanish? Any info appreciated. I'll be down that way in early December if anyone is interested in checking it out together.

I was back in Miami and made another round of visits. I think for best results, it's best to stay to closing and leave with your girl. Definitely not possible if you have work / other commitments. These places seem to close at 5 am typically. Arranging a meet up can be tough with those hours also, since it has to be mid morning before she sleeps or early afternoon.

One more note is that the bars seem only to serve beer. If you want liquor or mixed drinks or something you'll be out of luck.

Anyway: A forum member PMed me about a couple of other spots and I visited one of them. La Portena in Little Havana. The girls on the low end of the scale were quite fat. They did have three hot ones though, but they were locked down with other dudes.

On 7th street is Cafe Exito. I believe it's this kind of place based on the Google reviews, etc. When I walked in early evening, the music was off, lights on fall and some employees all sitting together. Pretty awkward, I guess it was not actually open yet. Will follow up another time.

Later, I returned to Pantera and got acquainted with a big boob Colombian. After some time we stood up to dance to a few songs. A slow ballad came on. Taking one for the team, I checked out all these places LOL. So here's the review. These places are sort of a nightclub / bar and strip club feeling mixed up. If you were to go to a regular nightclub, no girls would really approach you. If you were to go to a strip club, the girls would approach you for x amount of songs or ask for tips all the time and then leave. In this places, the girls approach you but it's not like they will ask for a tip or stay for a certain amount of time depending on how much you buy. However, they do stay as long as you keep buying them drinks.

I visited all these places and without calculating the amount that I spent driving, I think my damage was $ to $. 5 coins. All I got was my beers and the drinks that I got them. As always they were very flirty, touching, and you could dance and touch and grab. Nothing too extreme obviously. Think of it as a nightclub where you normally would be standing in a corner but in this case, you have a girl dancing with you. The only down side is that she's there for the money obviously. Your beer costs 3-5 coins and hers will cost 12-15 depending on the place and she will try to get you to buy her more every now and then cause they get some out of that. I can tell you they don't drink all of it and toss it or leave it so it gets picked up. They also put it in a white plastic cup so you don't see how much is left, but if you were to touch it and hold it, trust me that it's at least half way full. They do drink, but I can't tell you how much. I just know they do play games so you keep buying them. You just got to know your limit and how to get the most out of it.

Now I am not sure but the not so good looking girls, I think there was take out because I saw them going out and back in. However, I only stayed with the good looking ones and those didn't want to leave anywhere. If anyone wants to find out, please let us know. Now, some of these places will have more than 1 girl coming to you and they will ask you to buy a drink for them and for their friends. It's hard to say no because you don't want to be a jerk but you have to do it if you want to keep your money in your pocket and go slowly. Just with two or three girls that's already 25-37 coins a round. You will be depleted of bullets soon LOL. At first I fell into that cause they were telling me how the place worked, so I said ok. But then they wouldn't leave me and kept asking me to buy them a beer each, so I used an excuse to leave. Once they know you will buy them drinks, they will try to deplete you so be careful.

As for any action happening, I did get some digits. Let's see what happens after. This is for sure not a place to get action per say but if you are bored and want to drink and meet ladies just to waste time and money, then it's a place to check out. Remember that just like the strip club, this is an act and they will make you feel good just to get you to get them drinks.

Oh one last thing. Maybe it was just my luck but as you know there's always the drunk ass idiot. I was with some girl and I guess this guy was drunk and he wanted to spend time with her, for which I didn't let him cause I was with her. He said something next to me and I was like, "you have a problem?" and the guy started saying some dumb shit but at the end was like no problem. Blah blah blah. I was like. Cool. Went back to the girl I was grinding and basically that was it. I was ready to fight LOL. Anyways, always be careful, as these places are not safe. It's always good to go with a friend or two but even if you go alone, you won't feel awkward because the girls will approach you. You should know some Spanish though.

This thread is for discussion about hostess bars, buy-me-drink cafes, etc. In LA which has a more Mexican demographic have heard these called "ficheras". I'd like to know if the same name is used in cuban spanish.

There's a few posts on these places scattered around on different threads. MonteCarlos had some good insight here.. I've had good experiences at such places in other cities, so after reading his post and a few others I decided to do some recon. I visited two bars mentioned on the board and discovered two more. I'd say there's probably a bunch more in Miami given how I just came across those two by chance and without much exploration.

First, some general observations. Girls don't really come after you like in a strip club. When they are free they stand or sit and it's on you to approach her. The central idea is that you buy her overpriced (like $10 to $15) in exchange for conversation, dancing, etc. Sometimes they buy real drinks, but most often they get tiny cans of bud light. If you feel she is hustling too fast for new drinks, stay in control. Just tell her you'll buy one with your own next drink. Chances are she'll stay with you.

From my limited observations in these Miami cafes, I doubt any activities are happening on site. A lot of cameras everywhere and not enough privacy. Maybe there are back rooms that I don't know about though. The most I tried for was some light touching, hand on her thigh, grinding her ass on you while dancing, etc. It's absolutely on the menu to get a lady's number and meet up outside, though.

Now some specific reports. First was Rainbow. I think this is the biggest one. Pretty cadual atmosphere. It had the most girls, maybe 15 or 20. It was pretty busy too. It seemd to be some birthday event with a table set up with balloons and a cake. The girls were probaly the best looking overall at Rainbow, but I left without introducing to any of them.
