There are federal LE that spend their day looking guys interested in underage ladies. With agents spread all over the US, they can setup a sting when needed pretty quickly. I personally am glad they exist even though I do not have a daughter. Old men have no business trying to meet an underage lady.

Good points. These government agencies set up stings and send the media press releases about "epidemics" like sex trafficking, the war on drugs, and such.

Has anyone noticed that this kind of thing doesn't dominate the news cycle anymore? The pandemic has pushed all the governments made-up crises to the back of the line. But now that the pandemic is receding, look out because they'll have to find a new war to fight -- even if it's one they themselves created.

My ad specified 21 and over. But the progression from her claim to being 19 to 18, then 16 was very odd--whether it was a prank with no apparent payoff, or law enforcement plying a very low-percentage one-off sting.

Why would a horny teen initially say 18 and later say 16? A horny teen would have played the whole game claiming to by 18.

Perhaps ULE would have played it this way to suck you in as deeply as possible. But, I doubt that ULE has the resources to monitor online postings and then have a sting prepared to get only 1 suspect to take the bait.

My guess is this was all a game she (or he) was playing to jerk you around. No meeting ever planned on their part. Could have been a 14 year old girl with her sisters picture or a 70 year old man with his grand daughters friends picture.

- I wasn't chasing an 18-year-old. She responded to me. I asked her age since she looked young in the attached photo.

- She said she had a roommate, which was somewhat plausible. If it sounded or looked to be something different when I got there, I wouldn't go forward. As I would with anything that didn't gibe with our exchange to that point.

I also have a daughter. And every woman has / had a father. I am curious at what age you or other fathers would not shoot / kill people meeting your daughter for a play date. What is your age range for women you will meet--or is that not something you do?

Finally, I was watching myself, in the way and to the extent described. I took the time to recap it here so that others might be aware, and to see what additional wisdom could be gleaned from the situation. Many thanks for providing yours.

If my post came as an attack at you it wasn't exactly meant to be that but more of a warning, for your own well being as much as anything else. Yes, all women have fathers (hopefully) but you are talking about a supposedly 18 year old girl meeting a guy online for the 1st time, interested in sex. I hardly call that a play date as you suggested. Yes, if I was her father and she was only 18 and I caught you with her, damn right you'd be in a world of hurt. So would she though frankly. If it was her boyfriend that I knew that would be a different story.

For me personally, no at my age (50+) I do not go looking for 18 year olds, especially on the internet. That's just asking for trouble honestly. Besides what exactly is an 18 year old going to really offer me that a 20-something or older can't.

I would love some objective and experienced insight on the following events. A girl responded to an ad of mine on Craigslist with a decent picture, albeit on the young side. She asked a couple of times if I wanted sex; I told her we could talk about it in person after I had seen identification. She said she was okay with producing a license and said she was 18, soon to be 19.

We are supposed to meet this evening, when she says she doesn't have a car. She doesn't want to take an Uber. She says her roommate is out and asks me to come to Columbia to a quiet townhouse neighborhood near LifeTime fitness. I get there, drive around and there is nothing out of the ordinary--no people hanging out in cars, police or otherwise. She asks for a picture of a street sign before she comes out to meet me. I take one and send it.

Suddenly she says she is only 16, begs to give me head, and says she has done this for lots of older guys. I tell her, no, if she is 16, all we can do is talk, and I still need to see a driver's license. (At no point have we discussed money.) She responds "Cya. I'm done. ".

Was this just a flighty kid? Or was this some weird spearfishing for pedophiles?

I don't know whether this was a sting but something doesn't add up here. You did the right thing by not going through with it, although you should have been the one to break off communication once she said she was 16. When a legally underage girl is offering to give a BJ or engage in any other sex act, that's playing with fire regardless of whether the responder is a horny teen or our least favorite uncle in disguise. And you're looking at a felony rap if it's the latter.

If you ever do this again, I'd suggest specifying a minimum age of 21 for a meeting. While that isn't foolproof, at least you're making it clear you're seeking a gal who's legally an adult. By the way, didn't Craigslist abolish its personals section several years ago?

Anytime someone says they are underaged and push you hard for sex, it is probably a sting for pedophiles.

To be Frank though, why try chasing down an 18 year old too?? She would likely still be living at home. You want her dad coming out and putting a bullet in your dumb ass? She went to bathroom and when she came back it was as if she turned into a monster, screaming, shouting, grabbed my cash, hit me, threatened to call her brothers, told me that she had a weapon in her SUV etc. She went on a racist rant based on my skin color, I was only too happy to give up the cash to get rid of her. Went for love not war.

Should never have made the appt with her. She seems a crazy crazy gal, something must be seriously wrong here.

With my past experiences being with students who have a bit more class than these streetwalkers who are only good for this work, perhaps they're not treated well by the men in their lives.
