Just an FYI, some of those text apps come up as text apps when you text someone. I got a text from a young lady the other day and it shows up on my phone as a TextNow app (with the link to their site). I'm saying this because some girls won't reply to text from text apps. That's another reason to use a burn phone. JMTC.

I've had a few say "I don't respond to anyone using a texting app" which is fine, my hand responds just fine and they can live without my cash apparently.

Either way I'm not giving up my phone number to any of these until I'm certain they're not a psycho *****. I have no need for them banging on my door when my kids are over.

I've used Textfree for a few years, local number and it's free. You can turn on videos for free minutes, I caught them on a "get 4 x minutes free" weekend and turned a bunch on and am up to 500 free minutes of calling.

Occasionally buggy with pics or calls but not often enough that I care. Notifications are all off so it runs completely quietly in the background.

I use Textnow. There is absolutely no interplay between that app and my phone and / or my bill. Also, can use the Textnow web site to text and make / receive calls on my laptop, which is even more secure from potential prying eyes. Totally free. PM for more details if you'd like.

I've used successfully the Burner App on my iPhone for years. Bill me monthly, but stays hidden and only notifies me when I want it to.

Tried Google voice where no numbers show up, but for some reason people are texting me back on my real number. Am I using it wrong?? Also I'm afraid to keep messages on it where second line I have a way to hide it. Any help appreciated.

I posted something a few weeks back.

Short answer is. It has a long history of problems they are aware of and not concerned with fixing.

Example, it may ring phones it isn't even connected to, or used to be, or never was but you check gmail on a phone. Google their forums and look at all the problems people have been posting on.

It's worth what you're paying for it, and that's all I'd think of it.

Go to settings and turn on "Do not disturb".

You will need to use both this and Calls started from this devices phone app.

Don't mess with these while you're driving.

No but she's been discussed frequently before. Downriver area usually. She just randomly texted after I contacted her quick awhile ago. Just wondering.
