The bill passed the House with no opposition but several abstentions. It passed the Senate with sixteen Dems who voted "Nay". I don't think that the Governor has signed it yet but I have little doubt that he will, probably with great fanfare!

You are correct, Sport, that there is no pocket veto in Georgia, so if he were to just ignore it, the bill would become law anyhow. However, this is his wife's pet project and your average evangelical thinks it is a good idea. They are probably planning a big human trafficking PR event for the signing.

This is a disgusting law and it was supported by a number of legislators who are probably balls deep into this hobby. However, to oppose such legislation would piss off the Gov and create a real possibility that they would be primaried in the next election for being insufficiently pious. Kissinger was right about power being the ultimate aphrodisiac so they want to hold on to their seat. Lobbyist sex is free and they need some excuse to leave the wife and kids on the farm in Dooly County to head to the big city during the legislative session.

I hate for them to win on these things but the increased punishment will definitely enter into my calculations. I am sure that others are similarly risk aversive as well.

We need a lobby and a PAC!

Question? I found sb36 on legislation site and it shows it as 50% engrossed, which I read means it's not up to be a bill yet and would have to be considered in the next congressional calendar.

I see other bills that are still pending and others signed, but sb36 is is showing as 50% engrossed.

Maybe this is why I'm confused LOL or wishful thinking that it's not here for now.

I'm thinking it's with Gov now and he will probably not sign nor veto so will just go through? But I can't even find it as pending anywhere, so not sure.

Last year one of the SB I had in the roster was a stripper at a high end club. She had a lot of stories about state senators and officials that were getting FS in VIP.

Nine laws dealing with human trafficking in the state, and Kemp said it was all First Lady Marty Kemp and her Grace Commission that kept pushing to get these done.

One bill gives the State Massage Licensing Board the authority to conduct surprise inspections on facilities so as to root out illicit massage parlors.

There's a big difference between felonies (mandatory minimum of one year sentence in prison in the proposed legislation) and the current laws. Current laws almost never penalize the monger.

This could be a big deal if DAs want to make it one.

If the bill is passed It meant the end to our happy ending journey.

Passed the Senate and then the House. Goes back to the senate for final vote on any amendments made. Generally, any significant bill that's passed in one legislative chamber is likely to be altered by the other. If a majority of the voting members in the initial chamber agree to these modifications, the bill is endorsed and prepared to be present to the Governor. I haven't gone through the versions to see if there are any changes between but it doesn't seem very long. Most in the senate are fine with mandatory minimums so I would assume it will go to Kemp's desk shortly.

How does this law define pandering? Is getting a happy ending going to be covered by SB 36 and become a felony? What about a BJ in a Camp? Is that now a felony?

I'll add my two cents from what I know and have read. Please don't take this as advice, just my thoughts.

It seems pandering refers to the setting up of another for the sole purpose of prost. This would seem to be more against the mamasan, if anything.

Again, I could be wrong, but that's how I interpreted it.
