There's no unwritten rule, but if a monger has only a few postings, and they're all questions, it's unlikely that he'll get much of a response. The best way to get the respect of the oldtimers is to contribute experiences.

Even if the guy has zero reports, I try to give him a vague, yet helpful answer to get a better feel for whether or not he'll be a source of information in the future. I'll never say "fuck you, lurker." So far, I'm thankful for all the extra info I pick up from the awesome lurker brothers that I've responded to in the past. The guys that don't post know a LOT, and I feel lucky to be able to tap into that once in a while.
