I agree with everything you said. Sadly, I don't think there will be a rebound. The younger males simply don't enjoy strip clubs the way they used to. This decline is more evident in San Francisco. The techy crowd moved in from the South Bay and the older locals got priced out of the housing market and soon after the last few clubs started closing after being open for several decades.

I got here in 1999 for school and there were clubs all over the island and the place to be all week long. I could remember the military guys flooding those places and now the crowd is noticeably older.

It's not just that. There's a lack of regulars at Femme Nu and Rock-Za now (can't really speak about 939, as I go there very rarely). I remember back in the '90's, if you went to Femme Nu there was always this crew of about five guys that would hang out in that area that faces the smaller stage that's closest to the main entrance and the bathrooms. They'd eat and drink, there was a TV installed in the ceiling that was orientated just for them, all the girls knew who they were and Yuni would hang out with them. Didn't matter what day or what time it was — they were almost always there.

I haven't seen those guys since the mid-2000's. Now it's just some area the girls hang out in when they don't want to hustle drinks or dance.

Been thinking about this since the other night and our discussion about disgraced city councilman Andy M. and his crusade to close the strip clubs.

Those strip clubs did great when you could get really touchy-feely with the girls, and even more so when lap dancing became a thing. When he decided he was going to make closing the strip clubs his crusade he may not have succeed at the time, but the liquor commission started enforcing the laws they had on the books about customers touching the girls and the girls touching themselves. I remember prior to that, being a liquor inspector was supposed to be a pretty cushy job with the strip bar mamasans piling the gifts and free drinks on them. But the inspectors enforcing the laws they had on the books and Andy M. getting a stick up his ass to close down the clubs aren't a coincidence, I'm sure.

Also, does anyone remember why strip clubs stopped doing lap dances? It was because the owner of Fantasy Island went off about the other clubs and their lap dancing. If I remember right, the HPD was shrugging it's shoulders as to whether lap dancing was prostitution, but once that got on the news it also got on Andy M. 's radar, I'm sure, and he and other "concerned citizens" leaned on the police to start treating lap dancing like actual prostitution. Such a crock of BS.

So by the late '90's, the clubs began a slow decline. Even the recent construction boom couldn't save them, because guys like us, guys who would be the regulars at places like Femme Nu and Rock-Za, trade info about massage parlors and indies. The college girls who'd work at the clubs are on sugarbaby sites, because it's "not" prostitution (whatever makes them sleep at night).

And even if these rumors aren't true, that it's just people talking, the strip clubs are still in bad shape. I wasn't old enough to remember much about Hotel Street, but I do know there were flat-out bothels and live sex shows there back in the day. And now those are gone. I was old enough to go to Hubba Hubba in its final days, and I do have the same feeling of going someplace that is well past its prime when I'm in Femme Nu.

I wonder if this is just a lull between a new, better crop of clubs opening up or if this really is the end of strip clubs in Hawaii and that Andy M. , that fucking bastard, won in the end.

Word is she finally sold out to the developers in return for doubleing her money that she spent to buy her land a few years ago, plus they threw in a million dollar unit in the new condo development. She still has the church across the street and eagle cafe (run by her son, and losing money) to keep her busy. Place has been in freefall for a while anyway and most of her top girls have retired or left to the mainland. Going to miss this place- lots of good memories, esp back in the day when pro bowl players would come thru. Used to go early afternoon when all the underage dancers would work the early shift and take them out when their shift ends at 9.

Yup stop going to femme since my favorite sway retired.

Went there a few nights ago. None of the waiters pushed drinks on me when I was tipping one of the girls. I thought that was weird, but if this is true, that would explain it. I also counted maybe four or five working and it was pretty slow, but then again sparse staffing and sparse customers have been the norm.

Goddamn. End of an era. And a new girl who's not all tatted up just started working there too, Dakota. Check her out.

So if the other rumor is true about Rock-Za, the strip clup scene is going to be in terminal condition.

I've typically played in NY, NJ, CT, CA and FL.

Would love to find a go-go bar or a dive bar not a fancy stripclub, it possible in the club activity.

Lap Dances are illegal on Oahu?? I remember when they used to be $25 in Femme Nu. Was in Rock Za recently a few times. Place has gotten better. Some great looking women. Place seems to get busy pretty much every night. Had some private dances from a girl that goes by August. Good looking Ebony. Said she's here a few weeks. Had a few dances from another girl and I saw them giving stink eye as we were in the lap dance area together. I've heard strippers often don't care for each other. Seems pretty true LOL.

The other evening, I was in the area of Club Sundance. I had not been in there in ages, so I figured, why not. I went in thru the backdoor. There was one woman (short hair) getting a massage from a guy in the booth. Another woman, I suspect the owner was in the same booth. At the bar, there was 2 guys drinking and the female bartender sitting and watching TV. I sat at the bar and ordered a beer. The bartender got the beer and my change and just went back to watching. There were no dancers. My my, this place has gone down the drain into oblivion. Can anyone tell me why would a guy want to go into this place and spend money? One woman (not counting owner & bartender) and nothing else, am I missing anything of this place?

I had a similar experience when I dropped by the other week out of curiosity. So sad, it was such a fun place before and was where I popped my private room cherry. =) This place and Sun were my 2 fav places back in the day since was almost guarantee some kind of fun action. Can't really find those here anymore, except for Mistys & Saigon. Thank god for AMPs.
