My buddy said he visited an AMP and he was an amateur and freaking out. How do people get in trouble after the fact for being on video or a license plate photo? Will he get a letter in the maol?

First I might suspect the letter in that link is fake. If it's real you never have to go "explain" anything to the LE. If they got you they got you, if they don't you can get yourself into trouble by trying to "explain. " Just like a lot of the Trump entourage they weren't in trouble until they told LE something that might arguably not be true. Probably the best to just take the 5th.

There's this girl I used to date back in the day (I've done a few reports on her in the past).

Years ago, she got busted and is currently serving a rather long prison sentence.

I feel bad for her, especially since I could have prevented her getting caught in the first place.

I'd like to write to her and have her contact info, but don't want anything prison related getting back to me.

Last thing I need is for someone in my household ot know who I'm communicating with.

My question. How exactly do prisoners send mail?

Do they just lick a stamp and send or is it done through a prison mailing system (with correctional letterhead and such).

If you're worried about receiving mail on prison letterhead then you should open a PO box. One time I was in a situation similar to yours and was about to mail a friend of mine in ICE custody and my attorney friend talked me out of it. I have heard that sometimes prison staff also read or monitor incoming mail.
