One thing that is very easy to get hold of and extremely useful to 'having fun' is a prepaid cell. They're fairly cheap (seen them for as low as $10 in places like Wal-marts, so buy one someplace you normally don't go, with cash, and you've got a cell that doesn't connect back to you. Most offer minutes for sale in the same places you can buy the phones, and they too can be bought for cash. As for a place to go, ask around here. Most of the folks who've been in for a while know one or two 'no-tel' type hotels, so just ask for any info on the area you'd feel comfortable operating in, someone's likely to know something at least nearby.

Probably just a coincidence, she's not the first. Don't attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence and all that. The feds dicking around with a provider's free email account is possible, I suppose, but awfully petty and pointless, and not worth anyone's time. If she's nervous, she should ask at one of the provider-only boards.

If she was busted recently, and the cops found out she'd been using her yahoo account for "business" purposes, they probably passed the word along to yahoo's management and they shut her account down under the terms of their usage policy. I'm pretty sure they have a clause in their usage policy that forbids accounts from being used to "further or facilitate" any "criminal" activities. Then again, it could be she had a customer decide to rat her out for some reason or another. Any way it happened, once yahoo found out, her account was gone. They have to do that or the law (at least as I understand it) says they can be charged with "aideing and abetting" the commission of a crime, and as much as they might like any extra visitors she might bring to them, I think they want to *stay* in business even more.

I was headed west on 79th to take care of business. It was nice and quiet. As. I was getting closer to the destination my spidey senses kicked in and I bailed. On my way back east I saw the boys in full force with multiple squad cars and tow truck. No doubt they had just nailed another monger.

Boys you must not get careless. If you do your research you'll see there are areas in the city to avoid completely.

I've always shunned downtown too, but maybe a huge place like the Hyatt (or that place in Merchandise Mart) is relatively safe too. Maybe they are so large and filled with tourists that a wandering monger won't attract attention?

I dunno, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

No. Living in this country is still the best deal on the planet. It isn't PERFECT but no place is.
