How does a total newbie learn how to use the little friend? Are there training classes? What are the steps a newbie should take?

Never forget the basics.

1. The gun is always loaded. Treat it as such.

2. Don't point the gun at anything you don't want to destroy.

3. Finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot.

4. Be sure of your target and what's beyond it.

5. Secure your firearms when not in use.

I grew up with long guns living on a farm. So when it came to handguns I knew little. Go to a shooting range and get a few classes. You can rent smaller handguns that are good to carry to shape your likes for a purchase as most ranges have retail. Practice alot with your new friend. For half hour of range time and fifty rounds of target ammo less that 40 $$. Also learning can be dangerous, once knowledgeable complacency sets in guns are dangerous if misshandled. Do everything as taught for your safety no matter what you think your new little friend can kill you!!

I agree Glocks are too heavy / wide and a pocket piece is the way to go.

Pocket carry: I carry a Ruger LCP II (me-- . 22 with green dot laser. Many will argue with me on this one but the data supports a quality 22 round will stop attackers with less rounds than any other chambering-mix of psychology of getting shot and the accuracy a 22 provides on repeat) others I know prefer this gun chambered in 380. But it is small and light and is really easy to carry and conceal and quickly deploy.

General CCW. S&W M&P shield 9 mm. Love this model.

I used to carry a Glock and man are they nice, solid, and reliable, but I'm not in the swamp or dessert / dirt daily and damn are they heavy. So I moved to something I was more likely to actually carry daily / regularly.

Because I occasionally peruse the SW scene, I also have one of these (not this one specific) mounted in the car as I drive around unsavory areas. I keep the 9 mm in it. https://www.amazon.com/DD-Quickdraw-...dp/B07ZK8GS7S. I move it to my console between the seats as I make a scoop. My arm resting on the console always. Once we have a rappport going I say. Just so you know so you aren't suprised I have a gun in my console for both of our protections in case anybody tries to come at us. Don't try to open it to look for napkins before asking - (me-genuine smile). The "honest" ones seems to appreciate it, and the others probably reconsider their choices if planning something. Have never had a problem.

Kahr PM9 or sometimes Kahr CW9.

Kahr P380 for me. Smallest 380 available (also the CW380). I believe the PM9/ CW9 is the smallest 9 mm available. Great guns.

I have a micro 380 that fits in my pocket. I also have a compact 9 mm but I'm thin and the 380 conceals much better.

Great advice, once on the westside a damsel was wanting upfront compensation which I refused. She immediately got on her Obama phone calling in the Mod Squad. All I did was wade through the nasty apartment, open said door, bolt down the hall, hit the staircase holding both handrails taking two steps at a time going down then blasting through the entrance incase someone was waiting! 14 steps to my car. Blast off bub bye!

Never flash a gun last resort only if you're going to shoot! Ohio has stand your ground. Only if the worlds on fire will I pull mine but I will and oh hot sauce is a great idea!!

So Usedtobedoctor. You must keep "your little friend in the car? And I think that SevenInche is probably right. Sticking to Eros and P411. It sounds like the best plan to me. At RickMann. My fave is my Glock 19 Gen 5 with the gold slide. Great stopping power and not too heavy on the hip.

You're going to have an awful hard time proving self-defense to a jury in a situation like that. You may escape with your life only to spend it in prison. Even just pulling your gun out can get you a charge of felonious assault. Castle doctrine doesn't apply to you in someone else's home, and it doesn't apply to a girl who you invite over and then goes crazy on you. If you let her in she didn't "break and enter". It's a no-win situation. You'd be better off with something non-lethal like pepper spray. I leave my pocket piece locked in my car, I also mostly stick to high end known providers where this isn't normally an issue. Easiest way to avoid getting ripped off is to stick with girls on Eros and P411 and avoid girls from LC and STG. My 2 .

This is really good advice guys. I really appreciate you helping out a newbie. What do you do if you show up and, despite your best research, it's not the girl in the picture? Can you just refuse and walk away? I'm just wondering if most / many of these girls have "handlers" with bats or 9 mils close by.
