I believe it was a justified use of force. Cops are not trained to fire off warning shots. There is to much risk in hitting someone else. I was just saying when you pump that much lead into someone don't expect them to draw another breath. After the first few shots he was off the girl and the cop could have reassesed the situation. But hey you pull a knife on someone or rob a store with a weapon you might could get shot.

Actually officers are trained to not shot a warning shot. An innocent bystander might be hit and then the officer would be in real trouble. People also complain, because they frequently use hollow points which do more damage. This is again to protect bystanders. Hollow points are less likely to ricochet if they miss the suspect.

Listen, if I show up on site and I see a man wielding a butcher's knife while on top of a screaming woman, don't expect me to calmly ask the guy to drop the knife. Maybe yes a warning shot in the air and a clear warning that "I'll shoot if you don't drop the knife" may have done some something but that's too much time waste when someone's life is at stake.
