I did something stupid again. I know everybody here has said a million times to never give a deposit and no exceptions, but I did so with a provider I had seen twice before. I found her after having been out of touch for 3 years, and she's only advertising on X / twitter. The day after sending the deposit, I confirm that I'm going to be there at our scheduled time, and then out of the blue, she asks me to use the remaining rate for a gift card.

Of course, this is a huge red flag since I know providers have pulled the "gift card scam" on others. I blocked her, but then she contacted me from another handle asking why I blocked her and she gave me her alleged address. I told her that she's never asked me for a gift card before, and then she tells me it's for someone else. Then I'm wondering why she can't get one herself and needs me for it. I blocked her other handle before she gets ahold of me on another one and leaves a voice recording asking why I'm ignoring her, and that she's disappointed. I can't tell if it's her real voice or not.

I don't know if someone is pretending to be her with her pictures and videos or if she's one of those providers who's about to retire and get as many Bens as she can without giving anything in return, but it all felt off. I don't know why it was complicated for me to bring the rest of the rate to her address, and something wasn't right.

I'm not mentioning who she is just in case she checks the boards.

That's not your fault. We all try to find out a hidden gem. But you need to know many got PTSD after miserable TOFTT. So better check places / indy reviewed to guarantee your paid visit.

I respect that. But it costs what it costs. I'm not about to ruin my experience haggling over $30. It's been plenty of times I've walked out of a place because they were talking crazy tips. And I'm sure they all read the board; I know I would if I ran a business like that. But I have to say I went for an experience and it was provided, no questions asked. We really can't be on here having a dispute over $30. And if it is a big deal we should be banning together to say we aren't going to pay it; they are the ones who implied the tip amounts and even though I'm a contributor on this site, the second you ask someone something on here, people get tight lipped and rather than just answer your question they use that same energy to rant and tell you to search the forum. Folks can't have it both ways. There are tons of providers and if someone has intel on some that are closer (I'm in Howard county) and cheaper, I'm all ears. But that place has been one of the best so far so I get it if they cost a little bit above the market rate.
