You appear to be the only person typing about CNN and the MSM. I typed the initials CDC, NIH, and MIT. By the way those aren't news networks. You are doing mental gymnastics to turn that into CNN. There is also a clear difference between medicine, science, and politics. The pissing contest you are referring to from my stand point is vetted information and people just saying things. I am not sure how you got politics or the MSM from my previous post.

For the record I don't trust media outlets. I trust vetted peer reviewed sources. I also trust nothing you say as you appear to be "swallowing" information from questionable sources and regurgitating them here. I do not consider any of your posts on this subject logical or proof positive.

What is the p-value and what statistical test did you use?

Let me get this straight. The Chinese communist party lies? What a revelation! / s.

For those of you who realize that this is a very real and very dangerous threat, or for those of you who are truly searching for answers, I'm sharing this. The numbers are a bit outdated because this was from over a week ago, but it's still very informational.

Please feel free to copy and share.

Hi family and friends. I hope everyone is safe and hunkered down out there and doing okay. And thank you to everyone who've sent links and resources about this crisis. It's been super helpful. Just like the virus, the amount of media coverage has exploded over the past two weeks. It's a little overwhelming to say the least.

As before, I've tried to navigate this with reason and logic. Here's where my head's at. Take it for what you will. Apologies in advance for typos. Feel free to forward to whoever you think this will help. And please, as always, don't hesitate to email me back with better links or corrections.

    THE SHORT VERSION:

There's an emerging narrative that the "hysteria" surrounding COVID-19 is overblown and that the effects on the economy from the measures we're taking to combat it – social distancing, shelter-in-place orders, shutting down businesses, etc – are worse than the disease itself. Much of this belief is based on the theory that all of our dire projections are wrong because they've been built on the assumption that most of population hasn't contracted the virus yet. This new theory postulates that a much larger portion of the population has already contracted and recovered from the virus, but we don't know about it because of our lack of testing. If this is true, it means we're much closer to herd immunity that we think, and because there are fewer people out there to infect, there will end up being fewer cases that go critical or result in death. As such, we'll need less time to get the pandemic under control. Originally it was Easter, now it's been pushed out to June 1. At that point, we'll be able to lift social distancing and get back to business as usual.

If this theory proves wrong, however, and we re-open too early, the fallout will end up being worse than what we're currently experiencing from the shutdown. Our hospital system will get overwhelmed, we'll lose thousands – possibly millions – of people unnecessarily, and the economy will tank anyway.

Right now, current data and evidence simply don't support taking this risk. Not yet at least. I would love for the theory to be right – I am rooting for it to be right – but until we develop the tools to figure this out, it's best to proceed in the most conservative way possible. And that means being mentally prepared to stay at home much longer than June 1.

Also, everyone should start wearing some sort of mask, scarf, bandana, or whatever they need to cover their faces when venturing out in public. (Yes, I was wrong about this.) This combined with excessive hand washing and surface disinfecting will give everyone the best shot at keeping the virus at bay.

If you only have an hour and can pause your Tiger King binging, you should spend it watching these two videos, in order:

    1) An interview with a South Korean infectious disease expert. It's about 30 minutes and subtitled, so no background listening (unless you understand Korean). This is one of the most comprehensive breakdowns of what the coronavirus is, how it spreads, the techniques and strategies used to control it, why we should all be wearing masks, and what we can expect moving forward. It also highlights ways in which cultural differences factor into the handling of pandemics. This is the type of long form, deeply informative interview I wish our experts were giving us.

    2) The Daily SARA-COV-II Update from Peak Prosperity on Youtube.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w9M6K9vSUM

About 35 minutes, this latest installment, titled "The Solution is Becoming Clear" provides a great recap of where we are numbers wise, both in the US and globally, and also argues for why we should all be wearing masks. Mostly, this should act as a gateway into following these updates on a daily basis. Best way to stay up to speed.

    THE LONG VERSION:

If you're looking for some thoughtful, logical, data-driven analysis of the pandemic, I highly recommend subscribing to Peak Prosperity's Daily SARS-COV-II Update on Youtube:

This was sent to me by a friend a couple weeks ago and has been my main resource ever since. The videos are about 30-45 minutes long and well researched and informative, and help cut through a lot of the noise. They've been tracking COVID-19 since Day 1 back in January and have been pretty much right on the money with their projections ever since.

In addition to the video linked earlier, I would also watch this installment from three days ago, "The High Cost of Being Wrong," which goes into detail about the logic and data driving the belief that more people have the virus than we think.

How to Keep Yourself Virus Free.

I've been wondering just how paranoid I have to be about handling delivered items (packages, mail, takeout, etc). This medium post helped put a lot of this in perspective:

    https://medium.com/@amcarter/i-had-n...t-1b097f16040c

It was written by a woman who literally had no immune system for months, and detailed how she personally kept herself free from viral illness. You should definitely read it, but for the lazy, she boiled it down to three main actions:

    1. Constant, thorough hand washing and hand sanitizing.

The rule of thumb was if you're questioning whether you're washing your hands enough, you're definitely not. She washed her hands every time she used the bathroom, before she ate, after touching anything in a public place, immediately after returning home from being out anywhere, after the gym, after working on the computer, after cleaning, etc.

You should be burning through more soap than you ever have before. And probably more lotion too to restore moisture.

For proper hand washing technique, see this link:

    https://twitter.com/SinghLions/statu...86550939136003

And for an illustration of why soap works against the virus:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/...tm_name=iossmf

    2. Constant, thorough cleaning and sanitizing of surfaces that she touched.

Clean everything in your home thoroughly once, then reclean every surface that gets touched after someone enters or exits the house. This needs to be habitual. Wipe down your keys, your phone, credit card, door handle, light switches, steering wheel, etc. Keep wipes by the door and inside the car to make this easier. Take wipes into the store with you and wipe down carts. Again, be excessive.

For a video with tips and techniques and a suggestion of commonly touched areas:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/18/w...ronavirus.html

    3. Completely avoiding primary vectors of transmission.

This means people and the things people touch. Stay away from everyone, and don't touch anything in public if you can at all help it. Which should be easy since we're all staying at home!

She also wrote that if you're working an essential job and can't abide by #3, being vigilant on #1 and #2 will neutralize pretty much all other risk factors. Control your person. Control your home. And you'll reduce your risk of infection tremendously.

However, if you're still worried about getting infected from virus particles on deliveries, this writer developed a guide to handling packages that you should find useful:

    https://medium.com/@yishan/actionabl...es-6df861e0962

It uses a recent study (not peer-reviewed however) to calculate how long one has to wait to reduce viral count on various types of materials. But again, if you're washing your hands and disinfection your surfaces, it shouldn't matter.

Why We Should All Be Wearing Masks In Public.

Since this pandemic hit the States, we've been told that healthy people don't need to wear masks. They don't protect us from the virus, we don't know how to use them properly, and that they should be reserved for health professionals and the sick only.

Case in point, an article from the beginning of the month.

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/th...rus-2020-01-30

Why we were told this probably had something to do with there being a mask shortage and the powers that be wanting to preserve as much of the dwindling supply for the frontline professionals as possible. Basically, we hoarded toilet paper, and they didn't want us hoarding masks too. I get this. And I support the intention behind it.

However, the claim that masks offer no benefit whatsoever to the general public isn't backed by the data.

In countries where masks are routinely worn, like South Korea, Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong, and most recently, the Czech Republic, the spread of COVID-19 has been mitigated dramatically. Granted, there are many other factors involved here -- namely wider, more available testing, and better contract tracing -- but the common denominator is the prevalence of masks. Even if worn incorrectly, the masks provide huge benefits in helping stop spread of the virus.

The reasons for this are threefold:

    1) It reduces spread from infected people, both symptomatic and asymptomatic.

    2) It reminds you to not touch your face.

    3) Should you be exposed, it reduces your starting inoculum of the virus.

The really crude summary of the logic behind #3 is: It takes time for a virus to replicate within the body. When your viral load reaches a certain threshold, symptoms develop. Typically, the larger the viral load, the worse the symptoms.

The larger the starting inoculum – like an infected cough directly into your face – the easier it is for the virus to increase load, and the worse your chances are at having a positive outcome.

The smaller the inoculum, the harder it is for the virus to build load, and the better chance your immune system has to fight it.

So yes, you should definitely wear a mask if you have to be in public. The more people do this, the better chance we'll have at controlling this pandemic. It doesn't have to be a N95, which should still be going to the front lines, but literally any face cover – a cloth mask, a scarf, bandana, etc – is better than no protection at all. Yes, non-N95 masks may only be 50% effective. However, that's still a 50% reduction in viral exposure, which could be vital.

The Czechs are literally sewing homemade masks out of materials like old t-shirts and have managed to flatten their curve by doing so, quickly evolving from a country that never wore masks to one where everyone now does. We should be following their example.

Again, you should watch this video linked at the beginning of this email for a more detailed and far better explanation than I can muster. I especially recommend the South Korean interview for a surprising insight. Apparently, the WHO's recommendations on wearing masks changes depending on the country. In the West, they don't encourage normal people to wear masks. In the East, they do.

    This Crisis is War.

The isolation hasn't been easy. We're battling a virus we can't see by taking actions that don't have an immediate, discernable effect. We're forced to stay at home, away from family and friends, watching as businesses shut down and people lose jobs. It's enough to make anyone question why we're doing this.

I'm not the first one to draw this comparison, but what's helped my resolve through this all is imagining we're in the middle of a World War and we're the home front:

"This fear of attack (Pearl Harbor) translated into a ready acceptance by a majority of Americans of the need to sacrifice in order to achieve victory. During the spring of 1942, a rationing program was established that set limits on the amount of gas, food and clothing consumers could purchase. Families were issued ration stamps that were used to buy their allotment of everything from meat, sugar, fat, butter, vegetables and fruit to gas, tires, clothing and fuel oil. The United States Office of War Information released posters in which Americans were urged to "Do with less–so they'll have enough" ("they" referred to USA Troops). Meanwhile, individuals and communities conducted drives for the collection of scrap metal, aluminum cans and rubber, all of which were recycled and used to produce armaments. ".

This crisis is our war. The enemy we're fighting is COVID-19. Our doctors and nurses and medical professionals are the troops on the front lines. And all of us are the home front. But we're not being asked to ration, or use stamps, or learn new jobs, or collect scrap metal to support the war effort. All we have to do is stay home and self isolate.

Is this analogy sensationalistic? Not when you look at the numbers.

    405,000 Americans died in WWII.

    2,600 were killed during 9/11.

Without implementing social distancing, COVID-19 could kill up to 2. 2 million.

Sure as hell puts things in perspective, right?

The 2. 2 million figure, which has been cited by Fox News of all sources, is a worst case scenario. It was derived by assuming that COVID-19, without any controls, is estimated to infect roughly 70% of the country's population, or 228 million. If 1% of infected people die, which is the currently accepted death rate, that projects to. 2. 2 million.

However, as of last night, that projection was lowered to 100-200 k, which I assume is because of all the social distancing we've been doing.

How can these numbers be so wide apart? As Dr. Fauci stated, it's because the virus is a moving target. A big reason for this is that virus spreads exponentially.

The Washington Post did Some really helpful animations that illustrate what this means, and what we're hoping to achieve by self-isolating:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/graph...ona-simulator/

Also, Worldometers has a pretty handy chart tracking the coronavirus's spread across the globe. It's updated daily, and tracks each country's total confirmed cases, critical cases, recovered cases and deaths.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Just to illustrate what's been happening here in the US in the past ten days:

On March 19, there were 11 k total cases (2 k new that day), with 64 critical and 167 dead (77 new).

Yesterday, March 29, this grew to 142 k total cases (18 k new), with 2900 critical and 2484 dead (264 new).

These numbers will continue to grow. We just don't know by how much. My hope is that we caught it early and suppressed this exponential growth in time. Assuming Dr. Fauci's still applying the 1% death rate, we can reverse engineer his death toll prediction to see that he's estimating 10 to 20 million people will be getting the virus, or only 6% of the population. Or maybe he's seeing something in the data that suggests the death rate is much lower than 1%? I don't know and I'm not entirely optimistic that we'll get an explanation either.

All we can do is stay home, stay isolated, stay informed and keep ourselves from adding to the problem. We're a little bit on our own right now. But together, we can fight this.

Here's what I'm rooting for over the next four weeks:

    1) We discover we've socially isolated in time to "flatten the curve. ".

    2) Testing capabilities improve dramatically, allowing us to test broad swaths of the public and identity who has the virus and who doesn't.

    3) With more tests, we're able to properly contact trace – essentially, we figure how who's been infected, then trace every person he or she has had contact with and quarantine them (following South Korea's model).

    4) ICU capacity increases so that everyone who needs a ventilator can get one and doctors don't have to decide who lives and who dies like in Italy.

    5) We're able to test for coronavirus antibodies and eventually discover we're closer to herd immunity than we thought and that the death rate is far lower than currently projected.

    6) We produce more masks so that everyone can wear one.

    7) We get back to a somewhat normal life by July.

So the govt is supporting illegal action that is tanking its own economy and therefore hurting the chances of re election of the officials making those directives? It's like committing political suicide, isn't it?

Someone needs to explain how the govt and its officials are benefiting from causing their own demise.

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
It is hard to say that the government's actions are deliberate or intended directly to hurt the economy. That being said bolstering statistics seems plausible in order for them to justify the government actions to give more importance to the public health directives which are destroying the economy. Additionally, the truly wealthy are making even more money throughout this crisis as hedge funds, wealthy investors and the like are able to borrow money at 0% interest and invest it.

One issue I find troubling is that medical care employees including doctors are being ordered by hospital administrations that they cannot wear personal protective equipment even when they have them. There are doctors that bring their own masks and gloves and they are told they cannot wear them placing their lives at greater risk in their care for people who are sick and infected. The mainstream media has not covered this and the hospital administrations really need to put profit aside.

    YouTube Facebook etc

Honestly YouTube has been a great source of information for me. I'm not talking about all the political crap but just for understanding the virus and information. This was the major reason I had went to cash and bought puts against the market.

Medcram and peak prosperity had great insight on the virus right when things were popping off.

Worldometers has been great in tracking the cases worldwide. This was the reason why I told all of my friends to stock up on food back in February in case we get locked down so they don't have to take the chance of getting infected when stupid people rush and crowed together.

Wheather you like trump or not, just remember all blame should go directly to the Chinese communist party.
