I believe AirBnB and similar short term rentals are illegal in Raleigh. Not sure if they are enforcing it or not, though. I would also be concerned with neighbors causing trouble especially if they oppose having it in their neighborhood and know it is illegal.

I noticed someone mention going to an AirBnB for a date with a SB, and I must admit, that's something I'd never even thought of!

So, I've got the app, and an delighted by the prices and the variety of locations, BUT:

- When you're renting a room, how do you know there's no one else going to be at the house? Or, if there are people there, you just hold down the noise?

- Do you run into the Morality Police, owners who ask why you're there? A guy my age with a 19 year old college student, well, I don't think "I'm tutoring her for her Molecular Biology exam" is going to work.

I've plundered Reddit, as well as the AirBnB blogs, but I'm curious about the local experience.

So, what's your experience? Or, what are your questions? Let's get the word out there!

Thought about this a little more. While you don't have to physically meet the owner, the airBNB website does force you to create a real account using some kind of identification. So it's definitely not quite as easy to stay discreet.

There are plenty of places that use lock boxes or combinations to get in. Completely private and you never meet the owner. I have seen many of them in their description specifically point this out. That they are available if needed but otherwise not there.

I did consider AirBnB sometime ago and asked on the Richmond SB thread about it and the conclusion was I cannot stay anonymous as at a hotel I. E. Owners and guests expect to know each other perhaps AirBnB is a realistic option for single SDs.

I have done a couple of these in nearby towns. The owners are often flexible with check in times if you contact them. I like freestanding and private places, so I can't answer about rooms. I will say to be careful you understand what the price actually is for these places. The fees can make them just as expensive as a cheap hotel room.

If there are cameras inside or outside of the residence the owners are "suppose" to notify AirBnB. The problem is some of them don't and then that starts alot of what if questions.

I've done some reading on the AirBnB subreddit and It seems some owners are are more concerned about damage to the property and security than a SB or escort using it for work which is why they have cameras. If you think there are nosy neighbors park down the street and get an uber / lyft. Any camera in the bedroom or bathroom is an invasion of privacy and that is a Felony. A clearly noticeable camera outside with audio is ok with me as long as it's documented by AirBnB. A noticeable or hidden camera inside is an invasion even it if the owner has reported it to AirBnB. If someone even attempted to use the film against you it would be an easy case to win with probably some big money coming from AirBnB.

Overall I would feel safe getting an AirBnB the check in and out times just don't work for me though.

I saw a provider a while back. It was not my first time seeing her, I had seen her before in hotels but this time she sent me an address. I thought she had moved but she hadn't. She was actually at a nice place, in the historic Oakwood neighborhood of downtown Raleigh, very near Peace College. It was a two bedroom place and there was another provider working out of the other room.

As far as your questions go, I think you can find out in advance if the owners are going to be there or not. As far as the morality police and busybodies go, you can't really do anything about it. I am more concerned about recent revelations that people renting have found hidden cameras in the places. My understanding of it is that Air B&B owners have the right to install hidden cameras in the general living area but NOT in the bathroom and bedrooms. Very weird. Good luck, but I would recommend you find an independent apartment where the owners are NOT in the house.
