When ever I have to get a room for a meeting. If the chic wants to be able to stay in the room I pay with cash and require her to get the room in her name. I will not attach my credit card or name to the room in any way. Different experience but similar lesson learned. Disciplined adherence to "Better Judgement" keeps one safe. While a situation may not start with the intent to create issues, it can easily go against you. The safe guards that we take in this hobby act as circuit breakers that allow us to stay in the game and not compromise our private lives. Get over confident or careless and all is lost.

In my case, I shared my real cell phone number with a potential. Almost immediately I received black mail texts threatening to expose me. Heart was racing over the next few hours until she tried to dominate me by calling me by name. Thats makes a lot of sense! I've always wondered why they choose the dumps. My first thought was that rats only stay in trashy places and they like it. But I now think that the reasons you stated are the real reasons. I won't partake if they are at those places. The baymont is the only acceptable one for me as far as 2 star motels.
