Millions of online users turn to the popular Craigslist.com Web site in search for a home, tickets or a car, but many also use it to find sex.

Understanding that, Nassau police routinely monitored the site and this week arrested five people accused of using it to advertise prostitution.

Police said they suspect dozens of so-called Johns in recent weeks answered the ads and met for sex at motels in Plainview and Jericho.

"This is an ongoing problem to Nassau County and the metropolitan area ... that the vice squad is attentive to," said Capt. Steven Skrynecki of the Nassau County Vice Squad. "It's a constant battle to keep this under control."

Numerous resident complaints and undercover operations led to the arrests of the five who appeared Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead, authorities said. Police said they all, except a man-and-woman team, acted independently.

Craigslist.com, a site allowing Internet users to peruse and post notices for free, has more than 10 million visitors each month, the site said.

Illegal sex-for-money ads can be found under the site's erotic section. Some are accompanied by lewd or sexually explicit language and pictures.

"We received quite a bit of calls from parents ... and from adults themselves who ... find this to be offensive," Skrynecki said "It's a fine line in promoting prostitution and allowing advertisement."

Craigslist's founder, Craig Newmark, didn't return a call Thursday seeking comment.

On Tuesday, Ebony Gilreath, 21, of Brooklyn, was arrested on a charge of prostitution at a Plainview motel. Shaneesa White, 21, of College Park, Ga., and Keith Cowan, 23, of Riverdale, Ga., were arrested at a Jericho motel.

White had her daughter, 4, with her at the time of her arrest. The child was placed in a Suffolk County foster home, .police said.

When White met customers for sex, she left her daughter alone in the car outside the hotel room, police said. They said Cowan served as White's chauffeur and security guard.

White was charged with prostitution and endangering the welfare of a child. Cowan was charged with promoting .prostitution, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of marijuana.

On Wednesday, police arrested Claudinette Rodriguez, 38, of Miami Beach, and Victoria Finley, 21, of Orlando, Fla., at Plainview motels and charged each of them with prostitution.

Gilreath was released without bond, pending a June 19 court date.

White had a bail set of $2,000 cash or bond. So did Rodriguez.

Cowan was ordered held on a bail of $2,000 bond or $3,000 cash, while Finley's bail was set at $5,000 bond or $2,500 cash.

Craigslist has long been criticized for allowing unmonitored, and in some cases illegal ads, to be posted. Arrests stemming from sex ads posted there are occurring across the country.

Under federal law, Craigslist isn't liable for what appears on its site, said Kurt Opsahl, a staff attorney for the San Francisco, Calif.-based Electronic Frontier Foundation.

One bit of advice from a fellow monger. When picking up a SW for a car date, I never talk to her unless she is in my car and we have driven away from the area that I have picked her up from.

I usually chat it up for a while on some other topic, then when far enough away from possible backup, we have the conversation.

Female undercovers will always want to talk while she is outside the car and will never drive away from the area with her backup.

Also, if you pickup someone and LEO follows you it gives you enough time to spot them. Although in NJ you can get busted for even talking to/picking up a known SW in a known stroll. I don't know what the charge would be or the legality behind it having never been caught in 20+ years of hobbying.

Thanks for the tips AJC1959! I was thinking the exact same thing. Incalls are far easier for setting up stings as someone coming into your home would require a warrent of some kind signed by a judge, no? And BTW, LEo is only interested in numbers so they would rather set up an incall and have those patty wagons waiting to be loaded. Catching one monger at his home at a time is very resource intensive and honestly, I haven't heard of these type of operations going down. Usually, it's at an incall location or motel where the traps are set.

Anyway in response to the last question:

In call is an easier shot than out call because LE can set up the sting and get the perfect enviorment for taping etc. They are also safest when they are in control hence the Incall bust is easier for them. Of course on an incall sting they are VERY unlikely to bust after the action has begun. The bust will come usually at the latest after the John has removed his clothes but usually upon the agreement of Sex for Money. Hence do not enter into a negotiation of sex or a sex act for money. If a girl wants to have sex with you during your assignation she will if not she won't if you ask her and she says no, don't date her again if that's not your thing, If she says yes so be it BUT IF YOU OFFER HER MONEY TO CHANGE HER MIND, YOU HAVE SOLICITED HER AND COMMITTED A CRIME. IF SHE SOLICITS YOU, AND YOU SAY YES, YOU HAVE COMMITTED A CRIME (FORGET THE ENTRAPMENT THING FOR NOW WINNING THE CASE WILL STILL COST YOU WAY MORE THAN IF THE ARREST NEVER HAPPENED.)

On point 7, Tony indicates that it is easier to get nabbed in an Incall. I wasn't aware of this. I frequent AMP's and have always had the question of what happens to the customer. If I go to an AMP and there is a bust, can I simply be an innocent customer going for a proper full body massage?

also, how likely are LE to bust an independant Incall provider in middle of act? don't they have bigger fish to catch?

Mike, I appreciate your letting the folks on this board know about our firm. Moreover it seems that LE is working overtime on vice issues until the election is over. They have been closing down the stripclubs and SW are being prosecuted by the dozens Johns too. Conneticut police have also been increasing strip club enforcement. Again I believe that LE are using cheap tricks to both arrest and pressure convictions. As sex is an otherwise legal activity, I urge you all to be careful not to come close to breaking any laws. I also urge you to fight any prosecution that is unfair or based on lies of a cop. I have read where here that someone believes that the cops word will be taken before that of the accused. That may in fact be true moreoften that not. however a good cross borne in truth will make that cop look like the liar he is. I wouldn't be afraid of them, assuming you have a real advocate at your side and not a dump truck. It also presupposes you have followed the rules and you SHUT UP when arrested.

Unfortunately I used to work for the New York Pigs Department but just not on the LE side of things. But I talked to alot and I personally know a couple. They are really SHADy, especially when its quota time or the captians get a 49 about something that needs to be done. In this case its Mr. Bloomberg trying to keep the streets clean until November.

Fellow Mongers WATCH OUT! Its the end of the month and the first of the month. Meaning that LE has to finish their ticket books and they start new ones. LE has a quota no matter what anybody says! And they cant just write all their tickets in one day/week. It doesnt look right. Their superiors ask them "If you finish your book in one week what the hell were you doing for the rest of the month?" So they bang out about half in the first weeks, maybe one or two in the middle of the month, and finish the rest in the end!

SO when the 20's come like 23rd or 24th of the month, WATCH OUT. They have been on the hunt this end of month and we can only assume they are on it for the begining of Sept.

What keeps this site BS free is it's unique UTR status we all follow the rules here and we take pride in what we do. Putting us OTR on a site like CL invites trouble and the last thing we need are some of the A**'es that are on CL to come here.

So please, don't link to this site if you want to share information from here just copy and paste the info.

Wow I am so glad that this thread has sparked so much discussion. Like I said or do say at least not on here is knowledge is power!

Tony I hope you are not upset that I posted your site but I ran into it on a search and thought it was VERY informative to post and also I would like to thank you for comming on here and explaining that shut the fuck up should be the world not of the day but of the century!

Thanks for the information Tony, reminds me of an episode of Homicide where the moral of the story was to just shut the f*ck up.

I think what we all have to remember is that there is a difference between being arrested and LE having a case. Sure you can find yourself arrested for just saying hi to a SW but LE won't necessarily have a case. But after going through the process paying the fine can look very apealing. And I am sure a high percentage of guys pay the fine to just get it over with.
