Can anyone provide any thoughts on this? My understanding is that if you solicit a prostitute over the Internet (e.g. Craigslist) and the internet server happens to be outside of your state, you are subject to that interstate\trafficking law with a minimum sentence of 5 years and\or $250K fine.

Did I make this up or is this something to be concerned about?

First, it really depends on the prosecutor. If you are not high profile (school principal, elected official) you will be charged with state crimes.

Trafficking involves bringing someone across state lines. So, picking up a SW on Broadway and taking her to the Colony, could be a federal crime.

On state borders that happens all the time. Last week someone committed a robbery in St. Louis and was arrested in Granite City. Congratulations numbnut. The drive over the Chain of Rocks is going to be worth more time (if charged) than the robbery.
