Good advice, agree on your points not to stress about it. I've got questions for you. What's your theory on picking up a used / unlocked phone and using a mom and pop shop plan? I've got a cheap new phone bought in cash from Best Buy and buy minutes in cash from there. Do you see any reason that's not as secure?

I think you're good. As long as everything is paid in cash, Best Buy doesn't have your name or any other personal info to identify you. And as long as you don't enter any personal info into your Best Buy phone, it should be difficult for anyone to associate that phone with you.

Another Senior hobbyist suggested ATT Go plans. You can supposedly buy $100 refill cards in cash at most stores to refill a $35 per month plan. So you can save the monthly stops at a cell shop like what I have to do.

My suggestion is only better in that I think it's a cheaper method and good if you're not too tech savy and need help setting up your phone.

I have used a Motorola Blur, an IPhone 5, and currently a Galaxy Note 9 as my hobbying cell.

Every time I get a new phone I would take it to this shop on Sherman Way in Reseda. The girls would charge a one time fee of $20 for the new SIMM card and help me install and activate it. They think my name is John and no one has ever asked me for my last name, an address, or any form of Identification.

I have used a Simple Mobile monthly plan in the past for about $25. Currently I use an a $19 per month Ultra Mobile plan. It becomes $23 each month with the taxes and fees.

For $23 it's acceptable reception. For comparison the Ultra mobile cell usually has a bar or two less reception then my T-mobile cell in most areas around LA and Orange County. When the 4 G data runs out, the unlimited 3 G data kicks in but it's super slow.

But serious advice that I have learned from the seniors here. Do not use your personal cell for mongering activities. At the minimal get a fake Google #.

Or better get a used unlocked cell off of Craigslist or Ebay. Take your new cell into a mom and pop cell shop and buy the cheapest month by month text and data plan they have.

You will have to stop by a shop to make cash payments to renew your plan each month but that cell will never be connected to you.

If the cell shop asks for ID or says they can only take credit card or debit payments leave.

There are plenty of cell shops that cater to the hard working undocumented illegals here in Southern California.

Until hobbying becomes legal it is best to be anonymous and untraceable.
