I have used a couple of different carriers. For the most part I like Virgin Mobile the best. I purchase the phone and buy the cards to refill. I also like the fact that you can keep up to 300 dollars on a prepaid account and if you forget to re up they will just take the money from your balance. Pretty much you can stay under the radar with a prepaid but its not completely guaranteed if the want to track you down they can.
Best of luck.

Posts: 284Sorry to revive an old thread, but I thought it would be more appropriate than starting a new one.
I've been a long time lurker of this forum, but I'm relatively new to this hobby. I've always wanted to get into it, but wasn't too sure if the Uncle LEO factor was worth the risk. After trying it out in the UK and Germany (since it's legal), I'm now hooked, and would like to get started here back home.
Which carrier would you recommend for a monger phone? Is it necessary if I don't have a SO that would find out? Should I get one just in case I get robbed? Would it be unsafe to get a cheap smartphone that can run apps like Uber (I live in the city and commute via the T so I don't drive) which would have personally identifiable info?
Thanks in advance!

That being said, I would be cautious.

I found someone on CLCE. Number I got traces back to a guy's name (not Pat or terry, a traditional guy's name). Is it an automatic avoid, or should I ask her why the name traces like that? Has anyone ever had a good (female, LOL) provider with a phone that has a guy's name on the record?

Cellphones are part of the mongering toolkit. I would recommend a disposable cell phone for your hobbyist activities.
Jackson, a thread about mongering toolkits and how guys cope would be interesting

I have to be twice as careful as the rest of you. My wife works in the same office I do. That makes finding times for appointments, as well as calls to research places, a bit tricky. I managed to get my schedule altered so at least we don't ride the subway into downtown together. That gives me a bit of time for calls. Fortunately (? ) I was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. I use check-ups and visits with my nutritionist as covers for mongering. But as a result, I'm stuck within a tight area, either in the city or very close.
Anyway, as for the cell phone issue, I had the paper statements stopped. I make all the payments online and don't give her the password or login ID. She once asked about it but I told her I use the same password for a lot of things and I don't want to change everything else. She's usually a bit nosy, but she doesn't seem to mind not having to hassle with a phone bill.

Hi Shooter6,
So tell me, how exactly does this justify an entirely new thread?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Jackson
