You are correct. Many women out there would never choose to sell there bodies to make a living, and can't imagine that any other women would do so either. They falsely believe that any women doing such things must be trafficked, and therefore need to be "rescued" by law enforcement. That's why they want laws against this activity; so they can prosecute and jail consenting adults. Unfortunately, many of these women are politically powerful (law makers and wives of lawmakers). Until they can be educated to learn the truth (that many women choose that lifestyle), sex for sale will be criminalized and the men and women found to be involved in that sale will be jailed.

Don't kid yourself about the powerful religious lobby. It is definitely there. My family was very politically active and this was one of their top agendas followed only by a few things (such as abortion). But honestly, in my opinion, it has more to do with power and money. Most of the people that were active politically such as my family, were only interested in power. Or at least a majority. I routinely substituted Evangelist with Hypocrite. It was very much do as I say, not as I do. It wasn't that many of women (although that certainly occurs), but also men willing to jump on any bandwagon that would seem to give them an advantage in whatever they were trying to accomplish whether it was at the polls or simply in the church's standing. As I got older and got to know some of these men, it was obvious they had no moral high ground nor concern for trafficked women or children. It was simply a means to an end politically, socially, or monetarily.

I loved living in Europe where it was legal and safer for both us and the women.

There are too many creative people who can make $$$ by adhering to the letter of the law but still able provide information so that the free market can still function.

I've always thought it was glaringly obvious that one group of people espouse Free Market, less government intervention is best, yet still clamor for government intervention into the Free Market to enforce their religious views stemming from times when it was legal to burn witches! Just imagine what the commandments would have looked like if one of them was not to interfere with adults running adds in Craigslist!

And then those same people claim there isn't enough funds to adequately support single moms, exert extreme efforts to force women to have children they cannot afford, refuse to adequately fund effective rehab / treatment programs, refuse to offer effective treatment to children, teens, young adults, adults who whose brain's were constructed with psychological problems, some of them major, sever enough that they cannot maintain sufficient employment to adequately support themselves.

Billions on law enforcement but not one cent on research to to find genes to reduce the addictive effect of poppy fluids!

Every once in a while I wind up with a TV show about people who ran Ponzi scams, wiping out people's retirement funds, destroying people's lives and the punishment does not come close to the sever treatment of sex workers!

If you actually believe that then you need to open your eyes and do some research. There has been many documented cases all over the US of underage girls posting on BP. These sites have a responsibility to do their part and need better screening processes. A few of the other sites that I use require a provider to verify her age if she looks under 20 and or claims to be under 20. BP needs to implement better screening or they deserve to be shut down in my opinion.

This article and the whole situation is so fucking stupid. They love to give the impression that backpage is forcing innocent little girls to sell themselves against their will. And the idiotic public eats that shit up. These girls advertise on their own and if anyone is "making" them sell themselves, it's their own fucking pimp. Backpage isn't making do anything.

Just look at the ridiculous and count how many times they are referred to as innocent young girls. If Backpage shuts down, it will happen instantly, and it may take a little while for a consensus replacement to develop. (There WILL be a replacement.
