How true. The scene in DC itself was hopping prior to the 2005-6 time frame. There were AMP's downtown as well as in and around the Dupont Circle, Eastern Market and Georgetown neighborhoods. I patronized several of them. I also recall one in NE DC right off New York Avenue. There was the famous H&H Flotation Spa in upper Northwest, featuring American and international providers. I also remember visiting a couple of independents in the Foggy Bottom area. Those were the days.

Remember when the Washington Post sports section regularly carried ads from numerous American and Asian spas in DC and Maryland, along with a few in Virginia? The Washington City Paper also carried a lot of ads for not only spas but independents as well.

With DC AMPs, the Fenty Administration (2007-2011) really cracked down, and they just never came back. I don't remember any major busts or trials, so it may have just been some sort of consistent harassment. There's a thriving AMP scene in Greenbelt MD for FS and there are many AMPs in Northern Virginia, which are HJ only for the most part.

Many independent escorts operate out of DC, and visiting agency girls and independents operate out of various hotels as well.

I remember back in the 90's Columbia MD, Baltimore, and other places nearby also had great AMP scenes that are largely gone. Same thing in another place I'm familiar with, Detroit.

Also, since the shut down of Backpage, FOSTA / SESTA, and now COVID, there are fewer independents coming into the business Those that are seem to be coming in at pretty high price points relative to 10 or 15 years ago.

The K-agencies in Virginia seem to be doing very well, to the point where it's difficult to get screened. They offer a consistent, outstanding experience at an attractive price point.

Where did it all go? I don't know, but it's undeniable that you could get a whole lot more / better pussy for your mongering dollar 15 or so years ago than today.

The irony is that the crackdown on the parlors, and on internet sites like Backpage, resulted in the girls being forced out onto the streets, instead of remaining in the relative safety of the parlors and hotels.

That wasn't an unintended consequence, they knew it would happen and didn't give a fuck.

The secret is different jurisdiction. Which works in this particular instance because D. C is 20 minutes from MD and Va jurisdiction. They have different laws, law enforcement and level of priority. You don't have to be a genius to realize you can move your business 20 minutes away and still have access to the same market without the pressure from law enforcement that's within that market.

Even the streetwalker scene isn't what it used to be.
