I found in my 30+ years with the Army that most Colonels bucking for stars and above were far more playing politics than looking out for their command and doing what is right. I have the user name with SGT because I probably had far more fun as an NCO than later as an officer where I had to put up with direct interaction with many of these politicians. That said, the Colonels where were not bucking for stars or knew they would never be considered were my kind of leaders. Do what is right regardless of the cost.

Couldn't agree more. I found most senior officers to be very cowardly and only concerned about their own personal interests.
