    Timmy Chang

Let's be honest here. Timmy Chang is the better head coach for UH compared to June Jones. Jones was never successful anywhere, but for a few years in Hawaii. He was only slightly successful in those few years because he was able to recruit locally; ironically, Timmy Chang was probably his best local recruit. However, during Jone's tenure here, his character was always an issue. Further, he unexpectedly bailed on Hawaii at first chance for money at another school, leaving UH's football program in shamble ever since.

Given UH's football success is reliant on the successful recruit of locals, Chang is the better option since he has ties to community, as well as first hand experience going through the process. In addition, he has experience coaching at several programs. UH made the right decision.

Jones suing the school is just sour grapes. He should just walk away because no one wants him. If his service is needed, he shouldn't have a hard time finding a HC position. Instead, he decides to take the sore loser route and sue. I'm so glad he is not the HC, and his true color revealed itself with the lawsuit.

Background: According to Matlin they offered JJ the original contractual conditions to (1) discourage him from taking the HC job (although JJ was Matlin's personal choice) and to (2) prevent JJ from bringing Miano onboard. Since JJ has already objected to the conditions and the HC job, his hiring is pau already unless he comes onboard as a consultant / mentor by Timmy (and no one else). This whole thing was one travesty of basic negotiations and decorum because UH when make one unilateral decision without one escape plan (emergency HC hiring committee). Always make sure get one escape route and cushion for criticism. If was up-and-up between JJ and TC I would have chosen TC because of his overall ethics and positive image; JJ too dangerous.

KC and either LAs will be good for the SB; going be shock if KC lose to the Bengals (in OT).

I personally would prefer KC and LAR. There are more notable stars on both teams. Due to covid, not sure if we are going to the bars to watch the game. Hope the covid numbers subside soon. As for the UH Coaching fiasco, I am a little irritated with the way things were handled. It looks like there are not too many honest people up at UH (as we all know) and they were following a scripted agenda. Their spokesperson Mizenthal (or whatever his name is) really screwed it up for UH. If anything, that bastard should be fired. As for Matlin, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt after his press conference explained his actions. However, these guys are really good at lying with a straight face, so I am still a little skeptical. Anyways, good for Timmy. At least he will come away with a lot of money for the services he provided to UH when he was playing. Go get um Timmy -- hope you can win a few games.

Best thing now is we know what stupid really is with the vocal legislators poking their nose into UH business grandstanding--vote them all out Hawaii people, be smart this time and learn. Three dumbasses in the lege and counting--vote them out. Matlin is solid. They going get burned.
If Timmy win he not bailing where he going? Look at every college football and NFL teams there is no Orientals HC. They talk about not having enough Black HC but how many Orientals HC is there? I know there is more Black HC than Orientals HC. Keep in mind that Norm Chow was a great OC for many years and who gave him a HC job? Hawaii and I bet like Timmy if he didn't have ties to Hawaii he wouldn't have been hired either.

Hiring Timmy is like building the Rail

Most people know hiring Timmy not going make UH winners but because he is local and a lot of people like him they ok with hire just like Rail most people knew it was going to cost $$ but they building it because they say going cause less traffic? Timmy will not turn UH around unless you consider 7-6 record turn around while I consider turn around being 10-3 just like Rail it's not going to stop traffic. And how long going take Timmy to turn program around as long as it take Rail? Again time will tell what will happen 1st Timmy turns UH around or Rail be finish 1st?

As the program has no real stadium to play in, how will it be able to gain the revenues, without a large venue to play in. With promises of a new and greater venue in the next few years, well you know how that goes, going to be poorly planned, plagued with delays and cost overruns. Just like other projects in the past, to name a few, H3, Aloha Tower, Convention Center and the Rail. That is Hawaii's history of incompetency in leadership. Such grand plans are on the table, but do we really need more hotels and retail in the area? We need affordable housing first. A little off the subject, but relative to the problem.

It will probably not be completed in Timmy's tenure. So might as well take the cheapest way out for now. A quiet and humble local boy who will do his best and not make a spectacle to the media of all the things that were promised to him and did not get when things go south. Like the predecessor's before him, he will just leave for greener pastures.

So no Jones and no Miano.
Mo, every thing you said is right 100% treat it as a business, our government can't get it right, sad.

Yups, star athletes go Stevedores and all recent Miss Hawaii go to KHON as weathergirl (for starters). The drama not over yet with Timmy's hire and JJ's snub but most like see TC succeed and JJ suck seed (along with wannabee US Senator McDermott). Take care the contaminated aquifer (drinking) water first, representative, before putting your leatherneck on the UH football sidelines.

    Tammy Chang UH HC

He could suckseed like a young coach chechefski at Duke if given chance or he could be thrown into big surf and he not prepared and drown like Norm Chow who was offensive genius with local tyes and coached hiesman winners at byu & usc with blue blood college coaching pedigree with winning programs and legend head coaches but Chow couldn't do it & was fired and moved back to CA to help coach at one high school.

Can Chang assemble one staff to coach? One reason Urban Meyer failed in NFL is he couldn’t put together a staff cuz he has no nfl experience and no nfl relationships cuz he’s a college guy

Can Chang and staff recruit local talent at top schools and all schools StLouis Kahuku Mililani and the rest because times are different than when June Jones was coaching because back then the big boys weren't really recruiting Hawaii and Polynesia but these days locals and poly are on all top program rosters, and even Jim Harbaugh when he first started at Michigan went to Saaamoa to coach clinics and recruit and even Alabama has poly guys on their roster contributing so much harder to recruit keep and retain talent but if he can get chance for one winnah.

Can Tammy Chang and staff make players better? Oregon trained and coached up Deforest Bucker. Current USC players don't get better. Vavai Malapiai decommitted for glamourus USC and he didn't get better even though he's states HS leading rusher and can catch too. Poor thing so much talent & promse squandered at usc under Helton, what a waste. After Tua took Jalen Hurts QB position because Jalen couldn't throw, he went to Oklahoma and was groomed into an nfl quarterback in 1 season.

Can Chang and staff improve players while at UH and is subtly prepare for NFL or CFL. Chad owens has great life in Canada.

Can Chang and crew put players into nfl or cfl? If can, easier to keep local talent just like June Jones & Rich Miano did because they had NFL careers and cred. If can, no need our local boys go SEC even like Jordan Teamu Tua Vili and all.

Yups we all want Tammy to bring back UH glory daze, full packed stadium daze even tho current stadium holds 3,000 it's all good. Coach Tomey & Wagner daze UH played top ranked teams and almost won like USC and Nebraska. Go go geevum T Chang & UH, because we like one win and again.

Unless Timmy Chang has already signed the final contract, there's still time to renegotiate with the people's choice, Coach Willie Gonsalves.

    No be silly, hire Willie!
