For the Paranoid. Privacy, InfoSec
Seeing as how this comes up now and then, I figured this would be a good thread to start.
Maybe you're married and you need to be careful about this hobby of ours. Maybe you have standing in community. Maybe you just believe you have a right to privacy (shocking idea in this day and age). Then I guess this thread is for you, and this would be a good place to discuss information security and privacy, and help those who have questions.
No political discussions, because it always devolves.
No conspiratorial rants. Level-headed discourse about law enforcement and intelligence surveillance is fair game.
Be respectful of each other.
Burner Phone vs Burner Phone Number Apps
Is there a benefit of using burner phones vs the phone number apps?
I use TextFree and TextNow, which both gives free alternative 808 area code phone numbers. If anything goes wrong I simply delete the app from my phone.
License Plate Information
You have valid concerns. I wouldn't want to leave an easy breadcrumb trail to be tracked. So far in Hawaii, only first responders (PD, FD, EMS) and DMV workers have access to license plate to car owner's info through the DMV's electronic information system.
Auto Service Departments also keep license plate information.
