THIS IS IMPORTANT!
There is a legal concept called constructive possession. The exact definition of such depends on a whole bunch of details and factors that are unique to each case and thus need a lawyer to navigate.
But let me give a generalization: What this means is that IF the drugs are "under your control" they are deemed to be your drugs and thus you are guilty of possessing drugs! The key is how the law looks at "under your control" regardless of your knowledge of their presence or actually having ever touched them! So let me give a few examples:
1) You are riding around in your car, you are stopped by LE and they do a search and find a baggie of Heroine. Then you remember your date from last week spilled her purse in your car and that the baggie must have fallen out at that time. No one else in the car at the present time and as far as LE is concerned the drugs are under your "possession" they are your drugs and you get the charge. Take it to an extreme, same scenario but you are riding with the wife / SO. Guess what? EVERYONE in the car can be charged with possession!
2) You are riding around with a SW in the car and as LE is pulling you over she places some drugs in the console or seat near you. LE searches the car and finds the drugs. Now IF someone admits that the drugs are theirs, then they will get the rap. Otherwise, LE can, and usually will, just charge EVERYONE in the car with possessing the drugs and let the courts / lawyers sort it out. The fact that the drugs were withing your reach could mean under this "legal definition" that they are under your control and therefore your drugs. Even though you didn't know they were there, didn't touch them and have no record, they can be "put on you" under this definition of "constructive possession!
3) You are in drug / flop house with a girl, in a room with a closed door, LE comes in and does a search and finds drugs in the room you are in. Because the drugs are "under your control" while you are in the room, they are deemed by this legal concept of "constructive possession" to be your drugs and you can be charged with possession! Yeah, I know, even IF you are a visitor there, it is not your room, you have no idea drugs were hidden somewhere in there and never use drugs, you can still be charged.
So the point is that drug charges don't go away easily and one would need a lawyer to get out of the charges, IF it can be done.
So be VERY careful mixing drugs with hobbying!
