Job change

I'm taking job change and being transferred by my employer to Kentucky. I know next to nothing about it, except for Bowling Green has a good college, there's a lot of horse raising, and it's home to the Louisville Slugger baseball bat.

Where is considered central? My employer is in Louisville, are there good areas to live (and monger) near there? Are there state lines nearby where it might be cheaper to live and commute?
