Greetings everyone,

Now that my server admin has successfully tweaked the new server and otherwise optimized to meet the demands of the forum environment, I'd like to re-set the survey so I cat some idea if the improvements are evident from the users POV, as follows:

=======================================================

Greetings everyone,

Thanks to the financial support of the Forum's advertisers, I am pleased to announce that the Forum has recently moved to a new Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX200 server with Intel D2786 chipsets, 2 Quadcore Xeon E5520 CPUs, 16 gig DDR3 DIMM-RAM, and 4 hard discs in a RAID configuration to eliminate any possible data loss. And of course the new server is entirely dedicated to hosting the USASG Forum.

The old dual Xeon dedicated server was no slouch, but the new server should provide a substantial boost in performance and stability. Nevertheless, the true test is what the Forum Members experience using The Forum on a daily basis. Therefor, I have posted this survey to better ascertain how the new server is performing.

Please remember that a lot of things can effect the speed at which The Forum may appear to be functioning to you, including the speed of your computer, the speed of your internet connection, the level of internet traffic at that time, the distance between you and the forum's servers in Frankfurt, Germany, and of course, the server itself.

As always, I appreciate your observations.

Thanks,

Jackson

I gave the new equipment a very bad report when I took the survey earlier. It deserved a bad report for being soooo sloooooow. It seems like that was months ago. Not long thereafter I noticed a major improvement and this place has been performing at fast speed constantly since.

After a bit of a shaky start when it was first installed, the server is now rockin'.
Now, after it has been tuned like a fine Stradivarius, it is VERY FAST!!!

Great job!

It was always fast for me but I guess it does seem a little better now.

This site loads faster than other sites anyhow.

Initially the new server was slower than the old. The recent tweaking was very effective and performance is now excellent. Thanks.

I can't tell if the new method is better because I cannot get into the Oklalhoma forum since ther change was made.

I've observed significant performance improvement. This is easily the fastest performing board I'm on of any type.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use a up to three different computers to access the USASG. The speed seems more dependent on the computer or how well my 'high speed' connection is working than anything else.

There are days when the site is just blazing and others when it takes forever to connect, but once it does, the page will come up faster. My 801g wireless seems to be the slowest in the field, followed by my dual core 100mbs P4 machine, fastest seems to be the quad core with the 1000mbs card (on a 1000mbs router).

Today (using Speedtest.net) my ISP is giving me 27mbs download and 10mbs upload. The Speedtest stats tell me that is nearly twice my average download of 15mbs.

Don't know what Apple or Orange I was supposed to compare too. I compared to the yuky new server rather than the older server.

In any event, no complaints now.

It takes only a second, tops, for a new tab to open up; and that's up to having 15 tabs open at the same time.

I've never seen a new server for a board perform quite like this one. Sometimes it would take half a minute or so on the old one, for a page to load.

I have typically had quite acceptable service speeds, but occasionally not.

That continues for me, and is not limited to just this site.

Keep it up (Grin)!

I keep having trouble logging in: it seems to recognize my username and password, indicates it is logging me in, then does not. Usually on the fourth try it will work. I am not mistyping my username or password I'm quite certain.

Not sure why, but I've experienced the same thing you have, sometimes logging in 2 or 3 times before it keeps me logged in. Seems I have to log in at the home page level, once or twice, then again at the state level, again once or twice, any theories?

Response is much faster - even when using proxy servers in a wireless environment.

Thanks for providing the performance gain.

Since you tweeked the server, the system is functioning quite a bit faster.

Ive noticed that I have to log in twice if viewing pictures. I'll log in on the main page, then once I go to a forum and click on a picture, i'll be prompted to enter my info again.

Hi Hunterspeak17,

I have no idea what your question has to do with the forum's server, but your problem is your cookie settings on your computer.

I have no control over your computer or your browser's cookie settings.

I wish as much "maintenance" was paid to KEEPING all locations with CURRENT POSTS, as is done with the "server" that allows this site to exist. I really don't think anyone cares as to what type of server is keeping this site on-line (just as long as it is!). It would be nice however, to RID THE SITE of ALL POSTS over 90 days old (some of these "locations" I see-e.g. in California), have not had a current post in OVER A YEAR! While the "super-server" may allow for antiquated posts to exist, WHY do they need to?

I keep having trouble logging in: it seems to recognize my username and password, indicates it is logging me in, then does not. Usually on the fourth try it will work. I am not mistyping my username or password I'm quite certain.I noticed that if you let the redirect go through without pressing the 'Proceed' button, you will be logged in. If you press it, that is when you have the issues.
