I don't like how the Indys charge tip included AMP rates, then expect a tip on top of that.
Visited KK, one of the Thai providers in NOVA today for the first time. Very nice massage and OK finish. I am concerned, however, about the pricing. The ad clearly states $1. 2 for the hour and that she does not upsell. In fact, when I arrived, she told me she was independent. When I handed her the hourly amount at the conclusion of the massage, though, she said that the $1. 2 was the shop fee and that it did not include her tip. In short, she shamed me into an additional $. 4, which equates to the total fee in Greenbelt for TS and FS. Not what I had in mind. To add further fuel to the fire, I noted when I was leaving that the massage was only for 45 minutes. She had removed my watch earlier and, only after dressing, did I note the amount of time shorted. Has this happened to others with KK or am I missing something about the pricing and time?

KK is a fantastic massage therapist. And besides being a beautiful lady, she is a CMT who gives one of the best massages in the DC area. She is also a business woman who is the proprietor of a salon. For the sake of this discussion, I assume you're characterizing her as an "independent" because she does not work for someone else. But even if she did not have an office and she was working out of a place other than her home, (such as a townhouse or apartment,) she would still have certain bills to pay. She has fixed costs like rent, utilities, insurance, etc; and variable expenses such as the costs of oils and lotions, laundering linens, etc.
But ultimately, she is providing a service. So when it comes right down to it, she is working in a service industry. Therefore, I consider getting a massage from her like going out for a wonderful meal in a great restaurant. I pay the establishment for the food, the table to sit at, the clean dishes the meal comes out on, the electricity, etc. But even if the owner of the establishment herself serves me, I still give that person a tip. That is the customary business model in the service industry in the USA.
I consider it fair to pay someone of KK's caliber, a professional with her certification and skill level, the listed price for her legitimate services. Anything else she offers that is above and beyond a massage should be rewarded by tipping. Just like different levels of tips are given at AMPs for varying levels of service. (I don't consider that "upselling".)
So not only do I see nothing wrong with her expecting a tip for going above and beyond providing a standard level of service, I see no problem with her mentioning a tip if one was not forthcoming. Same goes for all the other independent ladies.
As for your other question: No, I have never been shorted on time by KK. My advice is to point it out to her at the time when it happens. If she does not satisfactorily rectify the situation, then you should bring your complaints to the review boards.

In comparing the two ads (the BP one is no longer active) it was clear they were for the same provider and the review was a bad one, so that's why I decided to report to the forum for the benefit of any monger who had her on his radar screen. That way if the provider isn't happy with the tip (or lack thereof) the opportunity for any pressure or unpleasantness is minimized. IME, most FBSM providers are OK with getting the massage fee up front and the tip afterwards. FWIW, if I'm getting dressed and the masseuse is still in the room (and obviously expecting the tip right then) I will ask to use the bathroom and that usually buys me enough time to finish getting dressed and decide how much I want to tip.

I generally never do this because IMHO it diminishes the incentive for the provider to work hard to earn a good tip and my repeat business. You titled your post "We are better than this, and it reads (in part) like a complaint, but it's not clear what we're supposed to be doing better or how we can do it.
Your issue seems to be with the fact that you can't find many reviews of black BP providers within these pages. There are a lot of providers in this business, and there are only so many that a monger's time and money will allow him to visit. (Until we elect Bernie Sanders, money won't grow on trees. And I don't know how he's going to solve the 24-hour limit that each day poses.).
Like diners at a buffet, members here sample what they have a taste for. Here's one stratagem that a monger can use when visiting a provider's hotel: Go to the front desk. (Basically, the rule of thumb is: "You've got to give before you get." Posts like the one you just submitted helps build "board cred" and shows your fellow forum members that you're one that understands this rule of thumb.).
I suspect that more than a few other readers of this forum have considered paying Becca a visit, so you've saved them some time and money by reporting on your less-than-thrilling experience. This will also redound to your credit, as you post and share more. From the look of things, based on your first post, you won't need much guidance about forum etiquette. But, in the event you do inadvertently slip up, other members will probably let you know. And, of course, A2 is usually close by to keep watch on things, in any event, to make sure things remain civil.
My only advice, if you haven't already figured it out, is to read as much of the forum as you can. That might seem like a daunting task, at first glance, but it's really not that difficult. As you read onward, you'll be surprised at just how far back you've read without realizing it. There is A LOT of useful information that many members have shared already, so chances are good that any questions which might arise have already been answered. Use the 'Search' function near the top of the page to check on various and sundry topics, terms, and names. And, of course, if you can't find the answers you're seeking even after searching, just post a request to ask for help. You'll find that most members here are just a bunch of pricks that'll smack you down in a flash.

It's been a while.
