LBPD sting targets johns
Crime: New, criticized policy seizes vehicles for at least 30 days to deter prostitution.

LONG BEACH - It's Friday the 13th, and Ronald Dotson is having an unlucky night.
Circling the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Daisy Avenue a known hotbed of prostitution the 25-year-old pulls over and allegedly arranges a "car date' with an undercover police officer pretending to be a prostitute. Within minutes, Dotson is escorted out of his silver Nissan Altima and arrested for soliciting sex.

But that's not the unlucky part.

This particular Friday night happens to be the first time the Long Beach Police Department's vice squad is implementing a new and controversial city policy to seize, impound and even sell the vehicles of suspected johns. In an effort to quell the demand side of such nuisance activity, Long Beach City Prosecutor Tom Reeves has modeled the city's ordinance after a similar, but equally controversial, ordinance in Oakland.

From now on, every vehicle that authorities suspect was used in a prostitution-related offense or to acquire drugs will be impounded for a minimum of 30 days. After that, it will be left largely in the hands of prosecutors and judges to decide where the vehicle ends up.

Dotson, who is handcuffed in the back of a black-and-white police cruiser, does not take news of the seizure well.

"Oh my God, dude!' he says, tears welling up in his eyes. "It's not even my car; it's my mom's car my mom is going to (expletive) kill me, dude!'

Return likely

The Altima, one of 18 cars, trucks and vans impounded during Friday's sting operation, will likely be returned to the registered owner in 30 days, says Deputy City Prosecutor James Young, who accompanied Long Beach police on Friday's sting operation.

The fact that the car belongs to someone other than the suspect and that its loss would signal a family hardship are two main reasons prosecutors will opt to return vehicles instead of auction them.

Even so, the vehicle seizure is no slap on the wrist. The car is held for at least 30 days with no exceptions, and the owner must pay hundreds of dollars in towing, impound and storage fees to get it back.

"The deterrent effect is that 30 days of impound,' Young says.

You don't have to tell that to Timothy Ballinger or Vern Strong. Both have been arrested for allegedly soliciting sex, and their vehicles a Nissan Xterra and a GMC truck, respectively have been driven onto flat-bed tow trucks and taken to a city tow yard.

Sitting in the back of a paddy wagon, they lament that their significant others will suffer as a result of their mistakes.

Ballinger, a youth program recruiter, says he shares his Xterra with his girlfriend.

"I understand and accept responsibility,' Ballinger says. "But, in terms of the car being impounded, it really is not fair. It's like bread and butter....I accept my punishment, but (my girlfriend) is being punished, too.

Strong agreed. He says he uses his truck to take his kids to school and to get to his job as a pipe liner.

"My wife and kids should suffer because I pulled over to get something going with a pretty girl?' he asks.

It's not just johns that have a problem with seizure programs. Civil rights groups, libertarians and some legal experts have criticized such policies as unfair, even unconstitutional. They complain that taking or selling someone's property without a legal finding of guilt is a backhanded way to both punish a person and make some money for the city.

Critics disagree

Critics say the programs violate due process, that they make punishments disproportionate to the crimes, and that they may signal a conflict of interest: The same prosecutors who oversee the program also stand to benefit from the sale of the cars.

But the Long Beach ordinance states that any proceeds from auctioned vehicles would go first to any lender or lien holder, second to city departments that incurred costs in the seizure, and third to a special account for local crime prevention programs, neighborhood nuisance abatement and community development efforts that would improve citizens' quality of life.

And Young maintains that the program is not a moneymaking venture; he says he expects only about 2 percent of the vehicles to actually be forfeited and auctioned.

"The idea isn't the money from the car,' he says.

The other vehicles will go through a legal process by which owners can file claims to get their vehicles back. In extreme cases, where the person is a repeat offender and taking the vehicle would not signal a hardship and the car's worth is not disproportionate to the crime itself, the prosecutor could pursue a forfeiture after which the car can be auctioned off.

Even then, however, the claim could be settled and the owner has a right to a civil trial.

So far, the courts have upheld vehicle-seizure programs, and Reeves has said he is confident the city ordinance will stand up to any future legal challenges.

While stings, such as the one Friday, are often criticized as entrapment, they certainly make clear one thing: There's no shortage of demand for prostitution in Long Beach.

When Norma Delgado, one of three police decoys, takes to the streets, she causes an instant traffic jam on Daisy Avenue a street lined with single-family homes. Drivers are literally bumper to bumper to find out how much she charges.

"It's like a conga line one after the other after the other,' says Sgt. Paul LeBaron, a police spokesman who watches Delgado from across the street. "People live right there. You can see why the cars become the issue.'

Magnet street

When he says "right there,' LeBaron could easily be referring to the home of Evelyn Quicksey, a 36-year-old security officer who lives on Daisy Avenue just south of PCH, and calls the new seizure program "wonderful.' She says her street is a magnet for drug addicts, prostitutes and homeless people, and she knows her nieces and nephews catch glimpses of crime all the time.

Just recently, she says, she saw a prostitute and john having sex in the median just yards from her house. It was 3:30 p.m. on a weekday. Afterward, the couple just threw their used condom on a little pine tree an evergreen Quicksey calls "the Christmas tree.'

The strolling johns have gotten so out of hand, she says, that just sitting in front of her house alone can give passers-by the wrong idea.

"One guy tried to pick me up,' she says. "I was out here smoking.'

Sigfredo Huizar, a father of two who lives next door to Quicksey, says prostitution and drug sales are regular occurrences.

"That's every day,' he says.

Of the new program, he adds: "I think the (johns) have to learn, you know? It is a good program. Before they do something, they'll have to think twice.'

That may be the case for one Long Beach john, whose silver Toyota Corolla station wagon still had diapers and a child's biblical coloring book in the back seat when it was seized by police.

The book was opened to a colored picture of Jesus and Mary, below which read the words: "Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.'

Wait-and-see

As for police, many are taking a wait-and-see attitude about the new policy. Whether taking johns' vehicles will deter prostitution in Long Beach remains to be seen, says LBPD vice unit Sgt. Tim Ferrill, who helps organize prostitution stings.

But, as police load a 1995 BMW 318i and 2002 Ford F-150 onto a flat-bed tow truck Friday evening, one thing appears certain.

"Those 20 or 30 (johns) will never do it again,' LeBaron says.

"At least not in Long Beach,' Ferrill adds.

SW prostitution is the easy way out, for the girls, for the mongers and for LE.

LE decoy avoidance is not difficult.

Reduction of the john demand via busts makes the prostitutes more desperate and will lower prices for the mongers who are able to work around LE.

LE is just taking the weak hands out of the game.

When you see a SW you shouldn't be looking at her. Listen to the big head and take a careful look around instead. Park down the street and watch the SW and the scene for a few minutes.

We all know that it's gonna get even tougher and more of a challenge. We all know that it should be legal, and that it's nobodys goddamn business what we do with our money. But we're not going to change the way the rest of the non-mongering world thinks, so we might as well suck it up and keep on keepin' on.

I wonder how many of those mongers were new guys who havent done this too often, or don't take it like the serious business that it is? I know none of them were WSG vets or they would have posted something about their ordeal here.

BTW I rolled PCH today (Sunday) about 6PM or so, only thing I saw was this blond lady hanging at the motel at PCH and Cherry. She looked good from afar-tight little top, shorty shorts and knee high boots, ya know Sunset garb. I went around to get a better look, and she looked freakin OLD, like hi-mileage mid to late 50's old. Came home and jacked to the new SCORE mag.

PS Has anyone ever seen the movie (or read the book) "The New Centurions" by Joseph Wambaugh? Theres a part in the movie where George C. Scott, playing an old timer cop, is rolling in the ***** wagon with his rookie partner (Stacy Keach, I think) and he tells him something along the lines of "prostitution is illegal because it's profitable. Well glad to know I'm not paranoid. Actually cruised right by that string, turned around and cruised by again. The "bait" looked vary similar to the woman I had seen around a sting up toward MLK earlier in the year so I just turned around and went on my way. Guess using the big head saved the day. Obviously there was nothing else out on Friday.

I tend to agree with Romeyclone - If you drove by the Daisy/PCH intersection that was the site of the sting, you would have seen 3 things that should have (and did in my case) make you "look but not stop" ...

1. Two of the best looking girls ever to be seen on PCH in Long Beach - looked more like LAX area escorts than the normal crack user that is found near Daisy,
2. Two very clean cut "vice officer looking" guys about a block north - watching from the park near the hotel, and
3. A shiny black and white sedan parked over by the car wash.

Just remember, if it smells like a sting, it probably is! Better to be safe than to lose a car ... a marriage ...a job.

Regarding amateurs getting caught by stings:

I never negotiate with a sw unless she is in my car. I ususally say, "Want a ride?" or "Let's go for a ride." Once I'm sure I'm not being followed, I cut the light banter and let the sw know what's really on my mind.

I can't imaging any prosecutor winning a case against me unless they have a taped conversation proving I offered sex for money. They will never get this evidence on tape because I never say anything outside of my car. I reveal all those comments when I'm several blocks from the site where I picked up the sw. Once the sw is in the car, I'm pretty confident that she's not LE, but I still take a good look around just to be sure.

I think these new auto confiscation laws can be frightening to the newbie, but I don't think that will scare the experienced monger from picking up sw's from LA, LB, or any city for that matter.

I think the media attention about the new auto confiscation laws will deter mongering on the street. The hype is sure to scare the amatuer. A benifit may come from this legistation though. Economics 101 taught me that a reduction in demand typically causes a reduction in prices. Bring it on!

I am pretty sure that they can confiscate your car even if all they charge you with is loitering(which can be if you drive around the area too much).

They can charge you with solicitation if you drive around the area too much and then pick up a "known" sw. Even if they cannot prove your guilt in court, they can still confiscate your car. If it goes to civil court, they only have to prove things by a preponderance of evidence, not beyond a reasonable doubt, to take your car.

This asset forfeiture thing needs a good court challenge. LE has used it successfully in many parts of the country. In south Florida the cops took cars, houses and money from people involved in drug dealing.

At one point the Miami Police had a white Porsche 911 that they outfitted with their logo and blue lights. I think finally smarter heads prevailed and they sold the car off.

The basic problem here is most mongers don't want to go through a court challenge.

And society in general would like to stop street prostitution. So there is general support for asset forfeiture, even though it is really on the edge in terms of the Bill of Rights.

This goes back to the usual right wing argument for un- constitutional activities by LE. It goes something like this:
" well if you aren't doing anything illegal, what do you have to worry about ?"

Meaning it is OK to trample over the bill of rights since "only the bad guys have anything to fear".

When innocents suffer from asset forfeiture the ACLU will take notice, the media will do a huge ratings generating series, and the law will be modified.

We just have to wait until a cute child misses life saving medical care because the cops took the family car.

Bottom line here is the cops are lazy and don't want to work hard doing good police work. They want intrusive laws that make their job easy and safe.

I stopped to pick up some food on pch, and on the way back to my hotel room I stopped at the liquor store for some beer. This was on a Sunday about 11am. I asked some girls (bsw)'s if they knew a girl I used to see around there. A cop car comes flying into the parking lot and I go into the store. When I come out the cops want to know what I said to the girls. I told them that I was asking them if they knew (place any name here), and the next thing I know they're writing me a ticket for loitering with intent to solicit. It turns out that these two were well known sw's and one had some drugs in her purse so they arrested her on the spot. Can someone tell me what the fine is and can you bring up a racial profiling defense on this sort of thing. I'm white and think that if I were black talking to some bsw's the cops might not have come over to see what the conversation was about.

Intent to solicit:

There are two types of variations in this law. One is criminal in which a person convicted of prostitution their car is seized. This law is also used for prostitutes who have been given restraining orders to stay away from a area..... There is also a civil law that allows police to seize cars of people suspected of solicitation. Oakland and Sacramento have variations of this law. According to the story police are using it to seize vehicles of people arrested for solicitations in stings. But this the real scam. In Oakland the person has no right to take their case to civil court.

Don't confuse being liberal with being "open minded", or conservativism with being "closed minded." A true conservative would not even consider passing laws that hinder commerce or invade one's personal life. That's why conservatives who get all high and mighty and moral irk me. True conservatives have a hands off attitude... it's not the job of the government to do this kind of thing.

In fact, a true conservative would not have supported the war in Iraq for the purpose of removing Saddam. Conservative administrations have always resisted becoming involved in the internal politics of other countries. All this jingoism is anti-conservative.

Liberal politics, on the other hand, dictate the passing of lots of laws, in other words, a liberal use of government to control everything.

I'm sure the best answer is somewhere between these two worlds.

yo, mongster, is that a misdemeanor with any real consequence, or just a few hundred bucks find? the loitering w/ intent to solicit - plus it sounds like they busted you for mere non-solicitation speech. I dont know what kind of lawyer you can afford, but that law seems way void for vagueness, i mean, if i ask a girl for her phone number because i want to go to dinner with her, is that intent to solicit?

If you have the time, call the ACLU, although it is run by a bunch of feminists who are inconsistent when it comes to sex speech, they may be interested.

Monger, That ticket is totally ridiculous. Plead not guilty. Do not pay the fine. That's admitting guilt. This will not be pursued and the charges will be dropped.

If the DA decides to try the case, which I doubt he will, request a jury trial. There will be at least one juror who will see to it that freedom prevails.

By the way, I'm not a lawyer, but I believe strongly that you can win this if you don't roll over and pay the fine.

Next time the cops ask you what you were talking about, tell them it's none of their business.

Two reports here. I was out and about on Anaheim in Wilmington on Tues night and hooked up with Karla, LSW, about 5-07 slim, dark hair/eyes, classic latina look goin on. Someone heard the racket in our room and was fucking with us! I dropped her off at a friends house around the corner about the time the adrenaline wore off. Dude I was so fucking pissed, I figured I just about ripped off (only got half my moneys worth) but she gave me her friends number and told me to call back in 30 minutes. I get halfway home, realized what a rush that was and laughed about the whole thing, so I called her back. Her friend answered, and put her on, she apologized blah blah blah and says she'll make it up to me. She says she has a few roommates who work too, so I may check them out, provided I find a safe room somewhere.

Heres the motherfucker- I get home and realized that I left my socks and skidded undies in the room, and when I took my Levis off, the rubber was still hangin on the helmet.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At 7:30 this evening I see two WSW's across from the 7-11 store on PCH, standing in front of that Thai food place. I drive this street all the time and have NEVER seen these two before. One is thin with reddish-brown hair, the other a bit "thicker" with brownish-blonde hair. I guess what hit me was they were both just STANDING there, not walking up and down the street.

I went in the 7-11, bought a cup of coffee, and stood out front just checking them out from across the street. This guy in a white truck pulls over, one of the girls talks to him, and then walks away. BAM!!! A Black & White screams around the corner and blocks the truck's path. Both cops jump out, cuff the guy and put him in the back of the cruiser. One of the cops jumps in the guy's truck and he and the cop car shoot north on Temple Street from PCH. The whole thing didn't take 30 seconds!!!!!!

In the next 20 minutes while I'm standing there they nab a car and two SUV's just the same way!!!!!!!! Then I see a guy coming out of the "Long Beach Inn" motel in cuffs!!!

I pull out of 7-11 and drive up Temple Street and about a half mile up there is a Police Trailer and whole FLEET of tow trucks hooking up vehicles, including the 4 I saw them take!!!!!

This is getting tooooo spooky!!!!!!!!

Long Beach's PCH between Santa Fe and the traffic circle has gotten way TOO SCARY for prospecting ... hell, I drive home that way every day and am getting worried that "eye contact" might equate to "solicitation"!

One thing for all to remember: If she looks too dam good looking to be a SW working the 'hood, then she probably isn't a SW!

Heard a sad tale at work today - a guy at the plant was driving home from the dealer in his wife's new BMW and made the mistake of letting his little head do the thinking ... busted and 2003 Beemer impounded ... rumor has it that his wife planning to file next week! OUCH!

I think the only people on Catalina are the rich and those who work there. I can't imagine a sw getting permission to live there based on her profession, and it could be a bit difficult to walk the track when most of the potential johns are on foot or golfcart. Then again, you may get a multi-millionaire's daughter who likes to dress up.

There is a campground at two harbors and a bar to serve them. I have met women at the bar and even closed the deal once (sex in her tent), but no money was exchanged. Just a normal pickup.

I know that Avalon used to have some great clubs with vacationing women, but I have never been lucky at these. I am usually pretty hammered when I go to Avalon.

A LB SW told me that there is a guy (monger?) who is actually photographing the undercover female cops taking part in these recent stings and he has been able to follow a couple of them back to their homes and find out where they live. Not sure what this guy plans to do with that information/knowledge?

I agree, OC. There are too many places to go that are not a war zone. As John Wayne said, "I'm not in the habit of throwing kerosene on a fire."

LE has been given a task. As a constinuent there are other ways of handling issues of tax dollar waste on vice raids. Taking pictures of cops and stalking them is not one of them (it may end you up in jail or worse, shot).

I really think that a large part of the problem is johns trying to pick up anything in a dress. If mongers didn't try to pick up regular girls, or even worse young girls getting out of school, things wouldn't be so bad.

As my name implies, I will usually sit and watch an area before picking up a sw and I can't count the number of times I see cars pulling up to women who are scared to death after being propositined by a dozen men during a five minute walk from their business to have lunch.

I'm sure I'll be flamed for this, so I'll jump off the soapbox for now.

A recent article in the press telegram saud that they have now revised the "hardship" conditions that will allow you to get you vehicle back. Apparently, needing it for work is not sufficient hardship. What idiots we have working for us.

I still check out PCH, but stick only with those I already know, and never on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

What the hell kind of morons decide it's ok to sieze a vehicle without proof of any wrongdoing? It's my guess that there;s going to be lawsuit petty soon that's goona cost LB a big chunk of change.

Think I'll look for Samantha in OC-closer and safer, and she's pretty hot.

Good advice except I think I'm going to stay the hell out of Long Beach. The last sw I had contact with had what she said was a staph infection on her arm. She was behind the truck stop at PCH & Santa Fe. It looked nasty & I dumped her fast.

I don't think LE has a problem with some guy discreetly having an escort come to his house. How would they know? However, not all mongers think with the large brain. Getting a bj in front of someones house then tossing the jimmie in the gutter or yard is sure to piss people off enough to complain to local LE. In one recent article in the LB paper it described two different incidents where sw's were servicing guys in very public areas in broad daylight. This turns out to be my first report in this group. I've been a long time reader of the posts but usually never posted because I never had much of substance to provide. However, the reports of others have been very key in landing my with some good fur on the go for the past 5 months. I tend to find my best prospects on Anaheim mostly near the transit station (Cherry I think). My first catch was on Cherry and PCH but that was one of those "out of the ordinary" deals. Since then LE has been out in force. I generally stay away from their traps and have never given reason to rouse their suspicion because the last thing I need is losing my ride and so forth.
Last nite I cruised Anaheim in need of some desperately needed relief. Spotted an older BSW near King. With business being rough, she offered half and half for 30. Looks were 6-7. Service 8, Overall: 7. Sated, but still on the prowl, I ran into this fine azz broad. Her story was that she was not a pro - didn't look it anyway. But the right price and she didn't hesitate to offer BBBJ while I cruised the streets. Got her number and dropped her off at her pad. All in all, an evening well spent with nary a trace of LE to haunt me.

We should all remember that the police are busting people who get caught for soliciting a prostitute. Long Beach does not have a civil "intent to solicit law". So long as you take the usual precautions such as only negotiating after the girl has gotten in your car. Driving far away from where you pick the girl up. You will be safe.

An over zealous cop could easily "write you into jail" under this section.

I havent seen much posted on LBB for a while, but I cruise regularly and it's consistant...consistantly bad! Lotsa crackhead BSW. Usually the state law is applied to the girls for some reason. Cities that have a law enact a civil intent to solicit law. The burden of proof of is higher in criminal case so they must have problems making the charge stick in court.

He says the cops were busting guys on the street, the girls now are getting in the cars with mongers then they get surrounded by cops. What next? LONG BEACH -- Police arrested 20 people and impounded 17 vehicles during an undercover prostitution sting late Thursday on Pacific Coast Highway.

The sting came in response to ongoing prostitution problems in the area and targeted individuals, or johns, who solicit prostitutes.

The operation took place along Pacific Coast Highway between Orange Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, said Sgt. Tim Ferrill of the Long Beach Police Department's Vice Squad.

Twenty men were arrested after they allegedly solicited a Long Beach police officer impersonating a prostitute. Seventeen vehicles were seized under a new city ordinance that requires all vehicles suspected of being involved in prostitution-related offenses to be impounded for 30 days.

James Young of the city prosecutor's office said that police had seized 18 vehicles in a June 13 sting and 20 vehicles in a June 24 sting. As of Friday morning, 23 of those vehicles were to be held for 30 days, six were repossessed by lien holders, six were released early, and three were released because no charges were filed against the drivers, he said.

Detectives said similar stings will continue across the city indefinitely in an effort to wipe out prostitution. They blame prostitution for a variety of societal ills including the spread of diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis and staph infection.

"These operations are going to continue on a regular basis,' Ferrill said. "We could be doing one of the operations anytime, anywhere.'

Young said he has seen and heard anecdotal evidence that the stings have led to reduced prostitution in Long Beach.

"When I drive on PCH and Anaheim (Street), you see a lot fewer prostitutes out there, because there's a lot less soliciting of prostitutes from cars,' he said.

Well, sting operations aside, I was out in Long Beach today and decided to concentrate on Anaheim Blvd a bit more. It was HOT and I wasn't really looking to pick anyone up. Between LB Blvd and the 710 Freeway I saw two attractive latinas. This happened around 1-2 pm.

The first one had short died red/brown hair and had a very attractive face. I would guess she was in her late-20's. She was wearing baggy clothes, so I couldn't see what her body looked like. I noticed her walking and looking up and down the street. You could tell she wasn't walking to really get anywhere. I turned around and then saw her leaning up against a building, and again, looking up and down the street. I tried on both passes to make eye contact, but it didn't happen. As soon as I passed by the second time, she crossed the street and I noticed she caught someone's eye in a passing car and gave them the nod. I did a very quick turnaround and she was gone. I hope I can hook up with her in the future..

The second one was very similar, except she was a little older. Very attractive with very dark skin, and jet-black hair. (Schwing!) She was nicely dressed and had tight clothes. She was very petite and had a smokin' body. She caught my eye on the first pass. She gave me "the nod" on the second pass, so I turned around and was going to pick her up. It was about 2:00pm and traffic was murder, so by the time I made it back around she was gone.

These is a lot of foot traffic with the stores in the area, so it takes a bit of recon to sniff the chicks out around here. They are there, but you have to look carefully. The two latinas I spotted today were both very nice, and much better looking than anything I've seen on PCH in a long time. That area is a ***** to turn around in..

Also, there was something going on at West Coast Choppers. I think they might have been filming something for Monster Garage. There was a red canopy setup on their side door, and they had the usual tattoed dudes hangin' out. I did see Jesse James, and also noticed a LOT of rubber marks in the street out in front of the shop. They had some race car, and it didn't look like the usual Monster Garage fare..

It was an afternoon with Hookers and Hot Rods. Ya gotta love that!

I forgot to add that the usual "regulars" out around Santa Fe and PCH. Yuck. I'll leave those chicks for Romey. :)

All joking aside, I've just about given up on PCH. The only time I can get out there is weeknights after 10PM or so, and aside from the truckstop lot lizards Mel claims I am so fond of, there ain't much out there. I do keep seeing this nice lite-skinned BSW walking near PCH and Daisy- she's real tall,nice legs, and always wearing miniskirts and high heels. Was out last night on PCH and Santa Fe. Cruised the area when a short haired blond driving in the area followed me in to the gas station on the corner. She said she thought I was someone else but started inquiring if I was looking for a date. She stated everything for $40. We did the usual show me stuff and she said she had a room at the local motel she has lived in for three years. She didn’t want to leave her car at the gas station as she said the key broke off in the ignition and showed it to me. I was a little leery but followed her to the motel about three blocks west of Santa Fe and PCH. This is where I started getting bad vibes. I followed her in to the parking lot and we got out of out cars. She said the manager had locked her out of the room and she needed to pay upfront to get in. She asked for some money and I gave her $20 and she went in the office. After several minutes, she came back and said she needed $3.00 more. I reluctantly gave her a $5 and she said the manager would like me to move my car on to the street as their was limited parking for the guests. She said to park in the back as the streets were not safe, and the manager would not notice. She said she was in room #107. She headed in to the office as I backed out, but I parked on the street instead of in back. As I got to my car, I saw her pull out of the motel.....she said to follow her. But by the time I go in my car and made a u-turn, she was gone. She must have ducked in an alley. It was ovious she has counted on me parking in the back so she could make her escape unoticed. She girl was 35 and 5"4 with short blond hair. Probably in her mid 30's. Conservatively dressed driving a small white car with California plates.

If you frequent this area, watch out as this is a total rip-off.

Was out and about in LB today and saw a few prospects. I have been having breakfast in that area lately, then riding my bicycle along the LA River to get some exercise. Funny thing about that is I wouldn't have known about the LA River and bicycle riding if it wasn't for the fact that I have gotten a few blow jobs while parked along the bike trail..

Some of the things to look for to avoid the Long Beach Police Dept stings, and I know a lot of this is common knowledge to you all.

The Police Officer who escorted me out of the jail noted - 'If she is young and attractive, on PCH and near a motel - she is a cop"

- If she doesn't get in the car when you pull up - she is probably a cop

- If she floats numbers right away - (my little buddy offerred sex and prices before I even got the window down) - she is probably a cop

- If she asks to see your money to prove you can pay - she is probably a cop

If she is young, attractive and anxious to take you to her room - she is probably a cop

If she doesn't ask you if you are a cop - she is probably a cop

In order to prove that one is committing the crime of solicitation there has to be agreement and movement toward fulfilling the agreement - for example - she offers to have sex with you, you agree and then you walk into her room - you have just been busted. The car example would be you agree to have sex, she gets in the car and then you pull away. Agreement and action. Point is to not discuss anything until you are moving.

FYI - the Long Beach Police usually do not record the conversations - instead they monitor the events as they are occurring and then right out a summary report later - so your version ( the truth) may vary wildly from the written report - you don't get to see this until you go to court the first time.

Other bits and pieces - the LBC City Prosecutor views himself as fixing broken windows (the NYC success story) - you will lose your car, you will not get it back for 30 days, the junior prosecutors aren't dealing as much as they used to in reducing or dismissing and this is a priorable offense - get busted again and you are looking at having an opportunity to eat bad food and no Starbucks for almost a year !

I was going to 'fess up and throw myself on the mercy of the court - I had a change of heart after talking to a friend who is am attorney - I got an attorney ($3,500) and am waiting to see what lies are in the report before I decide what to do - BTW, this is a several month process according to my attorney (yipee !) . Knowing some one isn't going to get you off as it did in the old days since the prosecutor is monitoring these cases personally - I wonder if he is running for Governor ?

PCH Report, from Redondo to the 710, early morning usually between 4:45 to 5:15am. Over the past week I have seen a fair number of SW's, mostly the usual BSW's, but a few new faces worth the notice.

1. WSW, near Atlantic. Tall blonde, average build, big tits, wears glasses. Saw her this morning, but lost sight of her while turning around.

2. WSW, near MLK. Thin long haired brunette, cute butt, goes by "Lisa" I've seen her out quite a few times, but cannot get her into my vehicle. I think that she thinks I'm LE, though I'm not, only a fellow monger.

3. LSW, near Pacific. Nice looking all over, I think she may be an occasional worker, as she does not look the part. Though I saw her talk with two cars, one drove off and she got into the other.

In the morning there is not much of an LE presence, as compared to the afternoon / evening, though they are still around so be wise.

The LBPD is increasing its efforts to fix broken windows on PCH - this means they are trying to catch hobbyists - so be careful -

The girls that were working the night I got busted were
- A blonde that looked like Belinda Carlisle (OK - I am dating myself)
- An Asian
- A Latino
- A white brunette

All cute / all fairly young /

There were lots of undercover male cops - one dude was Asian and on a scooter - should have been a tip off since Asian guys don't frequent that area except to run the 7 - 11.

A few points :

- If they don't get in your car - but come to the driver's side and chat - drive on
- If they want to go to "their" room and it is in a hotel - drive on
- If they ask to see your money or offer prices before you ask and the prices are below market value - drive on
- Asking them if they are "A cop" is not protection - they are not required to respond truthfully (according to my attorney)

Basically - don't discuss anything until they get in the car and you are driving away - and that means moving down the road and not near the motel

LBPD seems to run stings near Daisy and also in Signal Hill - I also think the stings tend to occur in the afternoon to evening time frame (LBPD must want to sleep in)

Although I can't afford to get busted again doesn't mean I can't look and report - the hobbyist who noted the action is fairly good in the early morning is correct - There are usually 5 to 6 girls out at 5 am and not much competition or traffic -

There are occasionally 2 or 3 BSW who work over by Sante Fe and PCH - they are dancers at a local club and seem to appear when tips were slow - but they are out there at least once a week - otherwise the Sante Fe area is spooky

LBC, I agree with jaymez here, I'd like to hear the details of the bust. Did you drive up or walk up to the decoy? Which one of the four gals was she? What did you say? What did she say? Did you go to the motel with her and have LBPD storm out of the bathroom and tackle you or did she just make a signal and the LBPD surrounded your car? What happened then? Did you admit to solicitation or did you remain silent? Do they have you on tape or is it your word against hers? I know this is a lot of questions, especially from a guy who has never been to So. Cal but most police agencies use similar tactics and any info you could give would prove useful to all of us. Most of us know not to solicite a SW until she gets in the car and you probably knew this also, but LE can be pretty tricky sometimes so we'd like to know what they did to snare you. Thanks again.

On both of my experiences, the provider was an older(40s-50s) vietnamese woman, who I figure was also the one who answered the phones at the time. During both services, the women would allow light touching, but both suggested to me, like OCMAN, to just "take care of myself" and that they "didn't do stuff like that here, just do it yourself." So I think in nutshell that sums up and rules out Sunset Beach. I had a same experience with a similar type of provider in San Diego near Pacific Beach. Not to minimize your post too much OC traveler, but you are probably not gonna get HIV from a BBBJ. I don't know that there has been one documented cas of getting HIV from RECEIVING oral sex. HIV need body fluids in contact to transmit....hence anal sex is an easy way to transmit since it often results in tissue tears. You have potentially HIV+ semen in a place where it is easy to enter the body if there is tearing.

Its much more difficult for a woman to get it during vagianl sex from a man because there is not usually tearing.

And its near impossible to get it from receiving a hummer. Saliva doesn't carry HIV well, if at all.

OTOH, you definitely do need to worry about hepetitis c, which is pretty nasty, and other STD's.

16 men arrested in johns sting
14 vehicles seized Wednesday as antiprostitution operations continue.

LONG BEACH -- Police arrested 16 men and impounded 14 vehicles late Wednesday during a sting operation targeting people who solicit prostitutes.

Detectives have impounded 106 vehicles and arrested 126 people since the inception in June of a citywide ordinance requiring vehicles involved in prostitution-related offenses to be impounded for 30 days, police said.

First-time offenders typically are fined $300 or required to perform 80 hours of community service. They also are forced to take an HIV test, attend an AIDS awareness class and are placed on a 3-year summary probation, said Noel Hacegaba, a spokesman for the Long Beach city prosecutor's office.

Repeat offenders are sentenced to at least 45 days in jail on top of increased fines, Hacegaba said.

The john sting occurred along a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Gladys Avenue bordering Signal Hill. Officers arrested 16 men who solicited Long Beach Police Officers posing as prostitutes.

The 14 vehicles were towed to local yards, where they will be available for their owners in late October.

Vehicle owners can be exempted from the impound if they prove extreme hardship, such as an inability to perform their job without their vehicle.

The john sting is the latest in a series of ongoing undercover operations against prostitution in Long Beach, which officials say contributes to the spread of disease, violence against women, drug abuse and other social ills.

Police have conducted similar operations throughout the city recently and promise more in the weeks and months to come, warning people to resist any temptation to pick up prostitutes.

There are LSW's on PCH:

One is out early (before 6 am) and sporadically, in the vicinity of Daisy Street. About 5 feet tall, shoulder length hair, saggy all around, good action.

Another is across the bridge - usually is around in mid morning. She tends to hang out at the bus stop just over the bridge. Around 5'4". Nice rack. Never tried her. Also sporadic.

Another one tends to hang around Signal Hill in the afternoon, especially on weekends. She is tall, nicely dressed in jeans and proportional body. Very good service.

There is a LSW, from Puerto Rico, that hangs out in the area just past MLK going north. She looks wild and is - a lot of fun. She claims that she is out from 4 am to 6:30 am but I have never seen her out past 6 am and only on Thursday and Fridays.

It seems that LE has calmed down a little bit, I still see them in the morning, but the SW's are starting to come out again. Just be extra cautious when stopping to "talk" .

In an earlier report I wrote about a WSW, named Lisa, well I finally had the opportunity to partake of her services.

Shit. Loitering used to be just a ticket. Infraction. Unless they could prove it was being done for a more sinaster purpose like being a lookout for the cops for drug dealers or casing a place. "For the purpose of committing a felony." Some legal jargon I heard somewhere concerning another loitering case. I suppose they could word it as "For the purpose of committing a misdemeanor." and upgrade the charge also. It would be hard as hell to prove.

I got busted for urinating in public and public intox some years ago. Pee'ed behind a dumpster behind a bar. Plea bargained it myself based on some advice from a paralegal down to loitering. Paid a $100 dollar fine with no marks on my record.

The case is still is process although it isn't looking good. The LBC DA isn't dealing and seems to be anxious to take these cases to trial. I wish I could get statistics on what the results of these cases are but that also seems to be a challenge. Since your buddy wasn't arrested for solicitation and didn't go to the room. They may be more willing to deal.

Dateline 27 October - Pacific Coast Highway

On the way to work this morning, around 5:30 am, I observed a sting operation. Two young, attractive LSW were walking the track by the Day's Inn. LE was staked out in least two B&W's observing the action (one was in the parking lot of the college). Rolled through LB today around 4:00 pm. I have always made sure to scout the outskirts of the main drags and have found some winners this way. Due to the recent heat from LE, I have been doing even more of this as of late. I came up dry on my first pass and thought it was going to be a total waste of time but as the sun started to go down, the ass started to appear. Most of the girls on PCH and Anaheim have been pretty bad lately and the ones I saw today were close to being full fledged skanks. PCH and Daisy was a ghost town and Sig. I currently drive the PCH track twice a day and have noticed the normal crack ho's down towards the 710. But the confusion sets in with a different variety of women up towards signal hill. It is very unusual to see the same girl out every day in that area. Be careful in the area it is a definite sting area. The girls have been real fugly on PCH lately so if the girl is hot or at least decent be weary. Still the AMP is the way to go for me. Little pricy, but alot safer. Patrol report, Monday 12/29/03, LB Blvd 91-105 fwy:

Was out and about this area between 9-11pm. I was actually just cruising by; I had already got a killer BBJ back on Fig about an hour before (see LA post).

Over the past 2 months I have driven weekly on LBB from the 405 North all the way up to and even a bit past the 105.

Most of what I have ever seen on this sretch is real skanky crack ho's, however just North of the 105 on LBB (right hand side past the McDonald & El Polo Loco) have seen a few WSW that are picked up real quick.

Regardless, you can ususally count no less than 8 to 10 SW in this area on any day at any time. This past Sunday at noon I counted at least 9 BSW.

If I ever see and pick up anything I will report but as of now, well don't hold your breath.

Friday night report at approx. 10 pm. Made a few passes on PCH and Anaheim and LE was all over the place! Cars with single guys, guys on bicycles, and people walking down the street were being stopped by cops left and right. I need some help with the forum on an anonymity issue.

A few years ago I bought an MCI calling card at COSTCO. I initially used it to call the East Coast from work, to avoid my personal calls showing up, instead only the 1-800 number showed on the work call list. Later I would use it to call AMPs from work and ask who was working that day. Eventually I began using it from my cell phone so all that would show up on my cell phone bill was the 1-800 number.

Well today I was calling a bar girl I met in one of Long Beach's asian bars using the 1-800 number and she rattled off my cell phone number.

Apparently, even though I was going through the 1-800 number my cell phone number still showed up on her cell phone. This means all the time I was calling the AMPs from work my work caller ID was showing up and being logged. Talk about a wake up call (no pun intended).

How do you fellow mongers solve this problem, or do you worry about it?

So where the hell is North Long Beach? I ask because I saw a report of a LBPD sting, the usual method, they picked up all of the SWs and replaced them with police decoys, etc., etc. What struck me was that these decoys, at least the ones that they showed on the newscast were your obvious run of the mill denim clad and standing in front of the motel that they were running the sting out of. They showed the unlucky mongers that were caught and there were a pack of them, about 25-30. So is North Long Beach referring to PCH and Anaheim Street, or to Long Beach Blvd.? Word to the wise, never solicit a girl in denim (or anything else for that matter) that is standing in front of a seedy motel especially if there is a pack of similarly clad girls with her! I would avoid going with ANY girl to a motel room that she has (even one you know-she may have gotten jammed up and forced to help LE "entrap" mongers to avoid a long prison stretch). It is better if you get the room either before or after you get the girl. However, getting rooms is getting to be more difficult, I can't see how these low budget motels stay in business without their usual short term rental practices.

I had the same problem, and this is how I solved it using my Trac Phone.

Press *87 ( or whatever the two digit code is that you'd use on a normal phone to hide numbers. It's usually the same for a cell phone, but that can differ.) before you place the 1-800 call. That has worked for me.

One phone card that I've seen in my area is called Call & Carry. They usually sell them in supermarkets. Don't get a Verizon or any other name brand card. They usually show your number anyway. When I used one of the off-brand ones to test call my cell phone, it came up on my cell phone caller ID as some number that began with a area code that I've never heard of.

I have never disagreed with you as far as not giving out information on providers. You posted some information on one & from what you say, she was busted. if we are to believe your story, you played a large part in her arrest.

What I have done is provide fellow mongers info on what LE is up to based on published account since all of us my not see the news or read the LB paper. In this case, I was not even the original poster. I just said I had seen the story too. I think your baiting of LE & suggesting dumping a bunch of jimmies in the street is moronic. That kind of thing will just bring more heat on all of us.

If you are too paranoid that the LBPD is watching you, which I doubt, then stop posting period. Its annoying watch 2 people take over the entire board. I had the same anonymity issue of my cell phone number showing up on others caller ID after using a calling card. The advice Creole Hottie gave is very good and is the same advice that I would have given, but I had another issue I wanted for the other person to be able to call me back.

Here is what I did. I found a homeless man that had an ID paid him a Jackson took him to the Radio Shack and got the cheapest cell phone with the cheapest plan and paid for the phone and prepaid the phone bill in cash. Now I keep that phone turned off and put away in less I want to make a call or expect a call from my favorite SW, then I turn the phone on, also a cell phone can’t be tracked unless it is turned on. This has worked out very good for me and should work great for the married men, who have wives who check the phone bill and the caller history on your normal cell phone. If they do find your new cell phone that you have hidden away, all you have to say is that you found the phone and are looking for the owner.

Something I saw last weekend. I was in a cab leaving downtown going back to the airport. It was about 6:00 AM and we were at Atlantic and 6th Str. Another cell phone option that also works well is a prepaid one, such as Verizon FreeUp, Boost (Nextel) KIC (Cingular) Virgin (Sprint) or whichever.

They can be had for as little as $59 if you shop around, such as Target, etc.

Not too fond of Tracfone. Service not as good as the others and they want too much information.

I've set up prepaids for some of my SW friends and just pulled data out of the phone book or off the top of my head with most of these carriers.

Or you can do like Ray The Hunter said, but substitute the prepaid system rather than a monthly plan. Minutes are good from 30-90 days depending on carrier.

For a short time a few months ago there seemed to be a lot of activity, now the board is quiet. I passed through there yesterday, and saw a few SW's but not as many as before. Was the sting that was listed as north long beach affect this area?

Find a homeless man to get a cell phone and plan for you probably wouldn't work. Both Sprint and Verizon check the credit companies. Not exactly credit history, but some form of ID plus extras that a homeless man may or may not pass.

Unless you don't have a normal cell phone and plan, it's hard to use something else. A prepaid phone is a good idea but you have to keep an extra phone and hide it somewhere. If you are there long enough you want to receive calls not at the time you expect them.

To keep your number from the other party, blocking them will be about the same for any phones, but there's something special about 800 numbers. I think they can't be blocked. That is, if you call an 800 number, your number will appear whether you block it or not. I also heard that someone can still obtain your blocked number by some back channels.

For someone to trace your ID with via cell number, that's a long short. Say so many married come out to play, you are safe by numbers.

I lock my cell phone so nobody can check my phone book and my history. The only problem is that the caller ID shows up even when the phone is locked. When I leave my phone on the table, I don't want anyone to see that Creole Hottie called me. But that's a small problem, either I carry the phone with me or switch it off in some not private places.

In the past, on some older phones you can protect the phone book or individual phone numbers. If the number is assigned secret you cannot see the number nor call it, unlike phones nowadays. Secret numbers also don't show up on caller iD's. If someone knows current phones like this, let me know. Or a PDA phone will be different?

I had to travel to Bell Gardens/Paramount area yesterday afternoon for work and used my little red car. After loading it up with supplies, i.e. no room for SWs, I proceeded to use the streets to head back towards LAX area. I took Florence to Garfield north to Slauson west to Eastern south. Just north of the Bicycle Casino, I saw a WSW, a chubby 5 at best. I took the 105 west, exiting on LBB south. Whoa. Tons of girls out and minimum LE. I did see 2 cruisers parked in alleys just south of the exit from the 105. After that, there was no LE that I could notice. There was a nice thick big-titted BSW, face=7+ body=7+, wearing a white tank top just north of Euclid and 2 BSWs, @6+, south of Euclid but north of the construction zone. BTW, the 24 Hour KMart in Carson has a prepaid cell phone special for 39.99. From what I've heard, it's a good bargain since most places sell them for $50+. It's a Nokia. I had to get it since my lost cell phone isn't coming in until 2 weeks from now. I had to haggle with the Verizon Insurance Co. to get them to honor their replacement policy. I wasn't gonna fork over another $350 for a LG VX600, which, BTW(TALLNHANDSOME), has that secret feature you've mentioned. It's good because even when receiving secret calls they just list a number with no name and you'll need a password to see the number in the phonebook. Also, it can put different ringtones for each person in your phonebook. I had Eli ring as "Hey, you're phone is ringing" in a female voice. It's a voice ringtone from I think XRinger.com. I guess that's why it's so expensive, not to mention it's a camera phone, too.

Seems to me LBB really pops off during the daytime/early evening more than latenight. I roll through all the time and most of the action seems to be during the daytime, mostly mid afternoon to about 7 or 8 PM, mostly near the Hub (LBB and Alondra) and further north near the Vance, with stragglers at all points in between. Sometimes you find them near the Compton Fashion center, sometimes next to the Gas Company. As with anything else YMMV, but this is what I have observed.

Whoo-hoo, got the day off because work was light. I'm bushed from yesterday but this afternoon I did manage to go on an excursion to the Signal Hill area for work-related items. I took the opportunity to scan the area @1pm. Last time I went, Sig Hill looked like a work in progress but it's taking form now. Speaking of which, there was absolutely no action south of 405 on Cherry, Willow, or Walnut. I had to drop-off the said items to work near Athens on the Hill, just a stone's throw from PIGUEROA but I didn't have enough time since I took 405 to LBB north! Nothing doing. Cruised on Monday 3-29-04 at around 9:30 to 11:00 pm. Did my usual lap and was scared to make another due to the heavy LE presence on PCH & Anaheim. I saw LBPD and Signal Hill PD pull people over for no reason. You could not drive down either street without seeing flashing lights ahead. This is no exaggeration. I parked and made a few calls to a couple of regular hook-ups but none of them answered. I did see one girl I knew at the liquor store on Cherry and PCH but LE had a bicyclist stopped in the alley and she knew I could not stop for her. Thursday morning circa 12:30AM. I started my expedition from Avalon and Alondra nearby the 91 Freeway. I took Alondra eastbound to Wilmington then south to Artesia Blvd eastbound. LE was heavy around here even past Paramount Ave. Still, I saw no recognizable SWs. I took Downey Ave north to Rosecrans to LBB. I drove up LBB from Rosecrans and saw nothing and considered doing multiple passes but as 1:10am was nearing, I was getting ancy and took LBB north to MLK and when I came upon Wilmington, I decided to head south to Imperial. Absolutely nothing, not even homeless, around. I took Imperial westbound to Wilmington, then I went into the frying pan. See South-Bay for report.

Spent Last Saturday on PCH.
