Don't want to start a big argument but I am an attorney and have handled 100's of marijuana cases. OPossession of pot is a minor misdemeanor that carries a maximum fine of $150 but no jail time. Until September it did carry a mandatory license suspension of at least 6 months. The law changed in September so that the license suspension is no longer mandatory but optional. All of the judges that I have been in front of since have not issued a suspension. The law does not differ for possession versus paraphernalia. I don't know how you avoided a mandatory suspension. I'm not sure where you and your friend practice law but the state of Ohio does not mandate a license suspension for marijuana possession.
