I made this thread specifically for girls who work bars and taverns throughout Massachusetts. A couple of bars come to mind, Packy's in Roxbury and a few others in Dorchester. I have a few detailed reports, but I'm under the watchful eye. My report will come soon.

What a great idea!

I lived in the burbs for many years and just moved to Dorchester. Considering I grew up in NYC, it's like I'm back home.

I don't know of the good dives in Dot yet.

I am sure it is gone, but back in the day OOOHH BOY. I am talking about "Good Time Charlies", on Lagrange St. Crap, I'm going back to the early 80's. It might still be there, I have moved, damn I miss that place.

Meatman, always a wellspring of wisdom. Seriously.

As far bars, I really eager to hear about the hole-in-the-wall, classic dive bars throughout Mass. I hope this thread takes off -- and maybe should be moved out of Boston? I think Menino, the BRA and gentrification have killed off most (if not all) the good options in Boston, leaving only the ones for the college crowd with cheap beer and not much else.

On the other hand, I would not get out of my car any where near Packy's. I am not that much of a tough guy. Another case of punks ruining a Boston institution.

No where near the hollowed ground of Packy's -- Aga's has got to be someone on the list. Who has anything good to say about Aga's?

Where else in Mass, presumably outside of Boston, is the true dive bar that doesn't show up on any other lists of alleged dive bars (like The Tam), where is always an aging semi-pro who lives around the corner? Where is there an authentic Bukowski experience? I hope this thread succeeds. I have been to these places in my life, but not for years.

One thought, how about Ups N Downs? It has been a long time since I was in there but it doesn't look like its changed much on the outside.

How about ,"The Blue Note". way up in Lynn? I am sure that is still there. I know it is a bit away from Bean Town, but still? My EX used to hook there. It is, or was next to Smugglers Pub.

I stopped by a Bar on Tremont St in the theatre district called the Tam. It was definately a dive bar. Cash only, no door on the mens room, a slightly weird smell and they said they open at 8 am. Not many bars like this left in Boston. There was a mixed crowd. Some college kids, some working professionals, and some people who looked like they just left a homeless shelter. Did not see any working girls though.

As one who is always on the prowl for a good dive bar, this one certainly fits the bill. It's right in Maverick Square. As for hooking up with a girl there, I'd say there is a good chance given the clientele.

A friend of mine introduced me to a bar called Biddeys on Pearl St near the financial district. I never even knew it was there because well there was no sign and its pretty much out of the way. Just some steps and a light in the window. Walked in and there was darts, cigarette machine, a few hightop tables and the bar. They have $1. 50 pbr drafts which is one of the lowest prices I've seen in Boston. Its right after a place called VIGA. I was there for about 2 hours and it seemed like a good spot.

Went to Eddie C's to check the surroundings. While there brought a beer watch some college hoops and scanned the area looking for potentials. I did chat up one woman. Pretty friendly but she was with a "friend" of hers. Didn't want to cock-block. I don't roll that way. Went home unsuccessful, but I will try either tomorrow or Saturday.

Got a tip from a friend that there are a LOT of Latinas there on weekends looking for potential dates. The end of the month is coming is more likely the reason.

back when the combat zone was still in its heyday the Tam was the place to pick-up the working girls. They would do some walking and then hang out there. had some great tail out of there back in the day!

Its still there after almost 40 years, Sully's Tap on Canal Street.

A hole in the wall Dive Bar, right across from the Garden. Who would have guessed that there is a new Garden and Sully's is still the same it was when I found it before a Knicks-celtics game back in 1971.

Its about the width of a doorway and runs the whole block, Canal Street on one entrance, Friends St. on the other.

Dos amigos in Waltham, there use to be a lot of working ones there, 96% latinas, good looking too. I used to go there on weekends, I heard this place was closed cause someone rat them out to the local police, I'm not sure if it still open. I was succesful there on many occasions. Great place for pick ups. The good thing about it, most of them have their own cars, they will follow you and you don't even have to bring them back. Somewhere close to Moody St.

I've tried a few of the dive bars in downtown Brockton without much luck. You'll see an occasional hottie hanging outside one of them, but on the 3 occasions it has been a complete sausage fest.

Generally there are many more guys at these places.

Most of the Dive Bars are gone out of downtown. Around the W Hotel in the theatre district there were some street hoes ready to do whatever for minimal cash. But they were all nasty as hell.

Interesting thread.

I've been to the Tam a few times. It seems no different than any other dive bar. Low prices, most patrons are male. I've also been next door at the Intermission Tavern, which is a little cleaner, but still a dive. The crowd seemed a little older, but basically the same. At the Intermission, I overheard one guy telling his friend from out-of-town all about the old Combat Zone, and that the Intermission used to be a strip club.

I'm wild about hispanic girls, and so I've taken a few trips to east boston after I read Meat Man's post about potentially finding latinas at Eddie C's. In two visits, I saw a lot of weirdos and not a lot of women. I didn't see any females customers who were attractive, though there was one who I think was a waitress that looked pretty good.

I've also explored some of the other bars around East Boston. There's quite a few Colombian bars. Spanish language music, all hispanic staff / customers. They seem to get filled to medium capacity, with mostly men. I've seen a few women in the crowd but always accompanied by a husband / boyfriend. The bartenders and waitresses at these bars are all beautiful women. I have a hunch that at one place, the waitresses might be 'available. ' Since it's nothing more than a hunch, I'll keep the name off the board, but you can PM me for more details if you want.

Though the crowd is largely male at most of the Colombian bars, I did find a few of places which seem to bring in a fair number of attractive females. It seems like the girls show up later. About 15 minutes past midnight is when I notice groups of females patrons entering. The best one seemed to be Cosmopolitan Lounge on Bennington. It's a dive bar disguised as a swanky club. I guess the neons and fancier looking countertop make all the difference, because I saw a good number of women there even before midnight. Actually, there were more women than men on my last visit! I think they are all just civilians, but it might be a good place to go if you have some pick-up skills.

My plan was just to get a beer and scope the place for a few minutes. I often see hookers in and out of the place when I'm in the Square. The Chelsea Walk Pub, also another bar in the square I've been to a couple of times. I did see a couple of potentials. One I chatted up was friendly, but she was looking to score some drugs. I'll try again possibly tonight or sometime this week.

Why don't we scope out these places together.

Then, we can put together a Monger Night Out tour for out of towners and try to get a kickback from the bars.

Asides from that, I checked out Eddie C's in Eastie just out of curiosity. It was a sausage fest. Went over to Chelsea to check out Bella's in the Square. I only popped in for a few seconds to see who was in there. Again, another sausage fest and most of the patrons were Hispanic. I think the place is very busy on weekends and the clientele is mixed, so I'll give it a shot this coming Saturday.

I've thought about trying the bars around Chelsea next, since I've been to most of the East Boston ones (see my report from 6/19).

I've seen them several times when I was on the way to King Arthur's lounge and made a note to check them out. For better or worse, I'm pretty fearless and will try out even the grittiest place a shot.

Last weekend I decided to spend an afternoon / evening bar-hopping across East Boston and Chelsea.

The results weren't too different from my earlier report (#23). The bars, whether English or Spanish, are almost entirely full of male customers. The spanish bars at least have hot girls as bartenders and waitresses, though. One dude from El Salvador tried to be my wingman and help me out by translating when I tried to flirt with one of the hot bartenders. At different place, I got some decent interest from a waitress. The smiles and eye contact were there, but the language barrier was too much.

Regarding the Chelsea Walk: I expected it to be the grittiest, stinkiest, gnarliest dive-to-end-all-dives, but it wasn't too rough at all. In fact, it's a lot nicer than Eddie see's. Most of the patrons were white guys in their 50's and 60's, plus a couple black guys who were in the same age range.

The last stop on my outing was the King Arthur Lounge, which turned out to be closed. This was on a Sunday, but it used to be open 7 days a week. Did they change the schedule? Or did something go down regarding the sale of the club which has been supposedly in the works for quite a while?

On Sunday night, I was standing on the corner of Tremont and Stuart street, just down from the Tam. The bars were closing and people were starting to spill out into the street and find their way home, or pour into the restaurants which stay open late.

Some guy approached me and started in on a sales pitch. He told me that there was a big group of girls operating out of the W Hotel, and the Revere hotel just down the street. He told me that he could take me to a penthouse in the W, where I could stay for 30 minutes and have free drinks and choose from one of the girls. He said they had women of all types and ethnicities, and that I would be under no obligation to choose one or pay for anything if I didn't see one I wanted. The price would be $235 for the hour, and I'd only have to pay after the action was over, he said. He also stressed that it was cash only and I would need to make sure I had the full amount ahead of time or I would get in trouble because they wouldn't want me to 'dine and dash.'

I declined because the whole thing sounded fishy / too good to be true. Still, has anyone had the same experience or heard the same sales pitch? Is there a backpage ad or something which this corresponds to?

I hope you didn't go, or come back from " ripyouofffolds. Centerfolds? " The idea didn't sound too far fetched as no matter the history / price of a room, the world's oldest profession is always at work. I have seen a hooker at the Omni parker house, so this doesn't seem too far fetched especially in that area. The dine and dash bit is to make sure you paid in full, or they would obviously kick the living you know what out of you. Who is this mysterious entrepreneur? Hopefully someone else will report on this, but that area is too close to lagrange, and the Tam isn't that great a bar for someone over 21. Did you think you were going to get jumped on the way to the hotel with that guy?

I've seen an ad, I think on backpage, of an escort that was taken from an upper floor of what I know to be the W Hotel based on the surrounding buildings. I'll let you guys know if I ever spot this guy. Can't imagine they would use the W Hotel to rob people. It would be too risky. The upper floors are condos though so this would be interesting indeed. They would have to pay the concierge to look the other way, if you catch my drift.

On my most recent excursion, I wandered to one of the many Colombian / Salvadoran bars in East Boston. Typically, I hang out for a while, drink a few, try to flirt with the beautiful waitresses and bartenders and make a little conversation.

This time, some guy sat next to me and seemed in the mood to talk. I told him my view of how hispanic women are the best looking on the planet. He said he was into blonde white girls. Go figure. Anyway, he said he was having troubles with his wife, and that he was going to hit a nearby 'after hours' place when the bar closed. He told me there were some good looking latinas and that he'd take me there if I wanted. I did want to go, but the trouble was I had *way* too much to drink and knew I was going to lose control of my stomach in short order. So I missed out.

But I'm intrigued and want to figure out what and where this place is. Any leads?

I did a short crawl of a few Chelsea / East Boston spots last weekend. It was the first time I've been in a (non strip club) bar since the pandemic started and my first return to the east side dives in probably 4 or 5 years. I used check them out fairly often and had some fun doing it.

Chelsea is changing and is already quite different from the last time I was there. There's still some grit but definitely undergoing gentrification. The Chelsea Walk pub is a place where I encountered working girls seated at the bar. Now it's closed and the space available for lease. Alpine Bar, that Colombian place across from Alpine, and of course King Arthur's all gone. The Salvadoran place with the stairs in the back was open although under new ownership and renovated, so I didn't venture in. Next to the old Chelsea Walk I saw a big banner about a public poetry reading event. An illustration of the changing times.

Next I checked out East Boston. Also a neighborhood undergoing changes, though not as much as Chelsea yet. Eddie C's still around and basically the same as it ever was. Cheap and strong drinks, mostly an older kookier crowd. A good place to warm up and not much else. Barney's also still open. They removed all the seats from the bar though and I didn't want to sit at a table by myself so I bailed. I finished the night in one of the Colombian places on Bennington. Six attractive latina waitresses but the place was very busy so it was hard to gain any traction with them.

I may try again this weekend or on an upcoming weeknight.
