The trend towards applications geared to mobile devices isnt going away any time soon. I am sure I am not the only member who almost exclusively uses the forum from an iPhone or an iTouch or a Blackberry. Yes it is possible to surf the web from the platforms, but it's a royal pain.

TER has one - not that I have used it or am advocating that anyone use it, but the trend is clear.

Just my .02.

BenchWhat features would you need to see to make it worth while.

I'm sure there is at least one programer on the board.

Hey if fucking TMZ has one, why not USG.

MisfitI think there would have to be something in it for Jackson and his advertiser. I could image an app that would allow users to bypass even visiting the page and viewing the adds being a negative for the board.

Still wondering what kind of features it would have.

I'm thinking easy look out of stroll maps and names/reviews by location.

Next thing you know is someone will be twittering when they see a WSW plying her trade. I find that iphone's browser is much easier to use than the one that was on my former windows mobile device.

Maybe someone should develop an app like Trapster (it notifies of places where cops set up speed traps, red light cameras etc.) Then people could mark the spots where girls are working. I for one certainly hope it doesn't come to that. Cops will monitor it real time and know where to make arrest.

I'm surrprised there aren't twittering drug dealers.

Two other vBulletin based boards that I am a member of have "mobile" versions. Not sure if they are mods/hacks made by a third party or something that vBulletin sells as an add-on feature. The mobile version does make looking at those boards from my phone a lot easier.

There is an app for iPhone and Android called "Forum Runner." If you own a forum, all you have to do is submit some information about your forum and your forum magically becomes available on iPhone. Simple!

Jackson could make this happen in just a few minutes by going to http://www.forumrunner.net/?p=register.

I think it would be great to be able to check in via my phone. Especially when I'm traveling.

Can't you just Bookmark the USG page in Safari? It would require you to go into Safari & then hit the bookmark. But then again, it is just 2 tasks instead of just one with the App you want Jackson to create. Damn lazy bastards.

I think it would be awesome if someone created an app for this site (or at least a version of the website that is friendly to mobile devices). I would be nice if while we are out and about we could easily post and read messages and whatnot. Maybe even have it interphase with the camera so pictures could be downloaded fairly easy. Just a though.

However, your concern is absolutely warranted. Trapster works because members can report live LE activity in various forms so other members can avoid or take caution when traveling through that area. If a version of that was created for mongering, the members would not only report where SW are but they give LE a chance to patrol an active area. Regardless of resources, if LE have a way to track where (and when) illegal activity occurs, they will find a way to use it.

MisfitThe idea isn't to simply bookmark a page. Anyone can do that for any page. The original suggestion was to create a mobile version of the site. This mobile version would load faster and be more stable when you are in an area with weak signal. I believe the real decision comes down to profits. Most mobile sites have no advertising (hence one reason why they load faster). No advertising mean no revenue stream. No revenue stream means no valid business reason to create it. Most mobile sites are a complement to the original site. For example, all of the major public transportation agencies in this area have mobile sites.

There is an application that is an add on to the vBulletin software. It is called vBulletin 5 Connect and one of its features is support for apple and Droid mobile devices.

So those really interested, send Jackson the $250 to buy the software and MAYBE if he has the time he'll install it and get it going. Any programming types out there who know how to write apps for the iphone or Droid OS's and who are familiar with vBulletin might want to write a free app for Jackson.

Not that I am adverse to having a mobile app, I also try to consider what it takes in the background to make it work.

Let's keep in mind this is one of TWO (or is it three) FREE sites Jackson runs. He buys the software, the servers, and pays for the internet connection. Then he also tries to maintain the peace, read all 'regular member' posts prior to posting, fixes some flagrantly bad posts, PLUS works and maintains a family.

Me, I stand and salute this man without asking him to do more.

What a great idea to have a mobile app. I'll love to search the site on my phone and have the ability to pm and send picture and post and and and.

Joe Black. It's hard to navigate with the phone.

Yeah we are working on that on the beta site. Actual mobile Apps are super, super, SUPER expensive to write and difficult to get approved at the iStore.

We are comparing ours to backpage and from a standpoint of ease of use they are pretty similar. Thanks for the feedback sugar.

If I remember correctly, v bulletin should have a mobile version you can activate. It should format everything to be more mobile friendly. I don't think there nerds to be a whole new written mobile version, just test v bulletins mobile. I just don't remember how it will treat the ads.

We have modified the code too much to do that.

I bet with the right access, I could modify the template to be a lot more mobile friendly. Message me here if you're interested. Wouldn't charge.

Is there a solution to the photo gallery to search by year. The error message states too many photos refine search max is 3000. I have tried to find a way to refine by years other than what is in the scroll down menu.
