NC / ECB has been a ghost town recently so I've been making a lot more trips to Tijuana. I usually catch an Uber from my house to the CV trolly and then walk across the border. If you get to the border before rush hour there is little or no wait, even with the new cards they are making us fill out.

Last trip enjoyed 4 different girls from the back alley, ranging from 7 to 9 on the looks scale. I like girls with curves (big tits and round asses) and have never been disappointed by the selection. Was in town for business, so made a run for the border Thursday evening after getting out of my meetings. Found a new taxi service at the top of the hill right when you come out of the border crossing. Cars are newer and clean, drivers all speak English, but costs $10 to go to Zona Norte.

Got my room at Cascadas, and then made a circle of the block. Was still relatively early, around 8 PM, so not too busy. Didn't see any SW that really caught my interest, so decided to check Las Chevalas. Walked from the alley entrance to the front, was mostly dead, and all the girls looked extremely bored. Again, nothing caught my eye.

Went into HK, made a quick round through the second floor then circled around and got a table near the front stage. For once, had a waiter that was not a complete ass. I never visit AB anymore and back in the day I could hang in there all day. Such a different atmosphere than these days. I also remember that CC used to get really crowded on Friday / Saturday nites. You would walk in there and there'd be chicas everywhere. I agree with the post that said HK took a lot of their business. I would expect CC to eventually close. They're either not citizens or can't pass the health exam or are hooked on drugs and are just trying to get a fix. Back around the holidays I had one pestering me in the alley outside chavelas. She spoke really good English and told me she lived in natl city. I seen her around the zona earlier that day sparking up conversations with others both in English and Spanish. She kept following me around and told me she worked part time in hk as a dancer only. She was cute but looked really young. Nobody really goes into the other bars and that's when the prices went up. Notice how the 2 most expensive bars in the zona are those 2? And now all the other bars are trying to compete for the biz. I was shocked to see recently that the lowly tropical bar got a facelift and surprise! Looks like the other ones. In recent trips I've found myself drinking in Valentina's and la Gloria because they remind me of the way the other bars looked when I first started going to Tijuana. But they're not the same quality. This is also why I think CC will shut its doors sooner or later. They haven't remodeled or look like they're going to anytime soon. Moe.

I think some things are getting twisted. The SG is only half the price. So, in Adelitas youll get any girl to agree, even on a Saturday, to $50. The room is $12. The SG is 20 plus 5 for the room but they will very likely charge upsell fees especially on Saturday. Last Saturday, every girl had limitations that was on the street. I don't really favtor the room cost in comparison, butvthe $12 rooms are decent for the task but the $5 ones are nasty.

Then theres the quality. You can walk into Adelitas on a weekend and find a 7-9, and usually a 10, easily. You won't have that walking down the alley. Technically, it is illegal to bring any prescription drugs (purchased abroad) into the US. However, Customs is currently allowing a person to import a 90-day supply of meds, for personal use. Re controlled substances, all bets are off.

BTW, the waiter showing up at your door was probably an arrangement between the girl and the waiter. In previous posts I have stated that I think the CC club is on the verge of closing. I was in there last sun night may 8 and I spoke with Jose who goes back with this place some years. He's the guy who works in the restroom and just recently started back working there. At the end of March he was released from jail after doing about 4 yrs. Before that he was there all the time. Used to chat with him on a regular basis. He said these days he does not make any money during the week and actually loses a little money. Weekends he said he makes between 25 and 50 dls. Sometimes I use the money exchange across Coahuila from Adelitas Bar. Have been there several times where a total of seven bargirls-strippers have been changing their USA Dollars for pesos. Only two of the seven were real cute without their makeup on. The darkness of the clubs and bars and alcohol masks their real looks. I don't recall seeing it posted here but if you have never been to Mexico, you're worried about a SO seeing a stamp. Don't be.

Mexico doesn't stamp your passport for a 1-6 hour day trip to Tijuana.

Often I see "hey goin to be in town in a month or more, where should I go?" I say,"Tijuana. " If you don't have a passport, get one. Maybe you have it in time, if not, you will the next time. Don't think about it. Just do it. I also suggest getting the passport card as thats much easier to carry and I just leave mine in my wallet.

If you do have one, pack it first so you don't forget. If you're feeling sketchy due to scary reporting, past experiences, etc. Put that behind you. Tijuana is really cleaning up crime at least around Zona. Theres a huge micro brewery explosion of businesses too.

Knowing Spanish helps, but not required to have a good time. Taxi drivers who know 0 English will know "Adelitas" and "border line" (or border crossing). The Mexican official will ask, "where are you going" or length of stay, just say, "meeting a friend at the bar for 2-3 hours and then back to US." Theyll fill out a card, youll sign, and youre on your way. The card has never been needed again (eg to leave or asked for by local PD). When you come back, US BP will ask, "Are you bringing back anything?" I always just say "no" or "memories of some good beers." They will likely ask 1-2 questions to verify you are you (e.g if your passport says you were born in Tuscon, youll likely gt asked," What high school did you graduate from in Tuscon?" Its not because he went there or recognizes you, he is gauging your response. If you reply, "Ive never been in Tuscon," you probably have secondary screening and a lot of time sitting in your immediate future : D Remember, he sees thousands of people a day, so hes askingeasy questions to just see if theres signs of deception. If youre calm and candid, youllbe fine.

Actually one of the Mexican immigration agents stamped my passport when I visited Tijuana the day.

I do not believe they stamp passports on a regular basis however.They have had the option to stamp passports for years. I worked in Juarez back in the 90's and they often stamped the passports of people that requested temporary 30 day work permits. (Back then you could use a birth certificate and we always encourage people to do that since they never stamped a birth certificate) Or they stamped people they thought they could get money out of later. Today it is still probably more of the same, if they stamp it. If they don't it is more likely they are just being lazy.I also learned that each Aduanas(Customs) location managed and interpreted the rules and regulations differently. Mostly the most advantageous way to make money.

Ihave noticed theyre not consistent on the card filled out for customs going in. Last Friday I said exactly what I've said every other time, "2-3 hour stay to drink beers and eat dinner with a friend," and she just waved me through. I would guesstimate 3 out of 10 trips I get wave through and the other 7 they fill out the card.

Maybe late at night it's better to taxi it from the Zona to the border. It's only about a 20 minute walk. Just walk at a brisk pace and walk boldly like don't mess with me or you will get hurt if you try anything.

Whenever you been drinking use a taxi. Also, some parts of the walk can be isolated. Meaning dark streets and not that many people out. There is one block right at the arch that is somewhat dangerous or so I've heard. I always walk around this area. Even during all the bs with cartel violence over the years I've never had a problem walking around Tijuana. Make sure not to have any drugs or medications on you and be aware of your surroundings you should be fine. I take a taxi 50% of the time. The other 50 I walk. Just depends on my mood. Moe.

However, I've never been concerned about Calle Primera (between Revo and Constitution) up until 10:00 or 11:00 pm. There are lots of open bars / restaurants / etc. And lots of people (not sure about later). Where I used to worry most on that route was when you take the right turn from Calle Primera onto Constitution. From there to that dive bar in the cellar (Bar Zarzopan or something like that). You'd also have to pass that area if you took the Calle Benito Juarez route.

I've never been mugged in or around the Zona. The reports I've read about muggings have occurred all over ZN, including in the alley.

That said, bottom line is: if it doesn't look right, avoid. Cabs are cheaper than having your wallet ripped off.

I take out the maximum $500 daily and this past week one day got 9250 pesos with only a $2 out of network fee and $4. 50 conversion fee. It came out to 18.27 pesos per dollar. On the USA Side the exchange places were giving 17.32 pesos per dollar and you could sell back for 17.90 but in Tijuana I sold back pesos at 17.23 per dollar. I made 1. 04 pesos profit per dollar so for $500 I made a profit of 520 pesos that day. I've been in Tijuana-Rosarito most of the past three weeks so in an 18 day period my profit is over 8600 pesos. The exchange place across from Adelitas is ok for selling back pesos if it's not a lot but there are other places that give a better rate if you're selling back many pesos. Basically the approximately 500 pesos I've been making daily will pay for a good SG daily. If I'm not in a mongering mood I leave my house at the beach in Rosarito and take a half hour walk to my ATM of choice and check out four money exchange places for the best rate that are on the way. After withdrawing my $500 worth of pesos I go to the exchange place with the lowest rate to sell pesos and sell back the pesos. The best day I made 540 pesos but averaged right around 500 pesos profit each day. This daily chore gets my fat ass out of the house otherwise I might stay home and drink my micheladas and tequila all day. The exercise is good for me and I combine breakfast, lunch, grocery shopping, or any other chores with the daily trip to the ATM. BTW the 500 pesos I made daily in an hour is more than a minimum wage Mexican worker makes in a week.

I made 1. 04 pesos profit per dollar so for $500 I made a profit of 520 pesos that day. I've been in Tijuana-Rosarito most of the past three weeks so in an 18 day period my profit is over 8600 pesos. The exchange place across from Adelitas is ok for selling back pesos if it's not a lot but there are other places that give a better rate if you're selling back many pesos. Basically the approximately 500 pesos I've been making daily will pay for a good SG daily. If I'm not in a mongering mood I leave my house at the beach in Rosarito and take a half hour walk to my ATM of choice and check out four money exchange places for the best rate that are on the way. After withdrawing my $500 worth of pesos I go to the exchange place with the lowest rate to sell pesos and sell back the pesos. The best day I made 540 pesos but averaged right around 500 pesos profit each day. This daily chore gets my fat ass out of the house otherwise I might stay home and drink my micheladas and tequila all day. The exercise is good for me and I combine breakfast, lunch, grocery shopping, or any other chores with the daily trip to the ATM. BTW the 500 pesos I made daily in an hour is more than a minimum wage Mexican worker makes in a week.

And this was back in January of this year. I still brought my birth certificate as a back up plan, but they didn't ask for it. The border agent did ask me a few questions but he let me cross. As an ExPat I'm up on stuff like this. What you can't do is cross EASILY. A US Citizen cannot be denied entry into the USA for any reason. However; the time you spend making the entry can get pretty fucking long if you can't document that you are a US Citizen.

I personally wouldn't go without a PP or PP card but a US Citizen can't be denied entry. Sooner or later (mostly later) they have to let you in.

When I got to San Ysidro Friday afternoon the exchange places in San Ysidro were giving 18.23 pesos per dollar but in an instant they all changed to 17.92 before I could get to the window. Selling pesos fpr dollars was at 18.53. In Tijuana the exchange places were giving 17.70 pesos per dollar and you could sell back for 17.98. With American greenbacks in your pocket buy in San Ysidro. When leaving Mexico sell in Tijuana. You may think it's only a matter of a few bucks but over time it adds up. I took out pesos at an ATM that afternoon and received 18.60 pesos per dollar for my $500 and sold back in Rosarito for 17.86 so the profit was 500 X. 74 so I made 370 pesos. If you intend to spend $500 in your mongering trip use a debit card at a Tijuana ATM to receive more pesos. In my example the difference was 18.60 versus 17.92 times 500 equals 340 pesos more.

Back when I was a Tijuana regular, Tropical had the reputation as the FOB (Fresh Off the Bus) club in the Zona. Sounds like it still is.Yes, that's still generally a safe bet. The dress code is a bit conservative as you won't find the common attire of HK or AB at TB. However I think this is why I've seen daytime AB and HK girls just chilling at TB in "civvie" clothes after their shift (about 6-7pm). You can go talk to them but they generally just drink buckets of beer and watch people dance (girl shows and then general grope-fest mongers with bar girls).

Back when I was a Tijuana regular, Tropical had the reputation as the FOB (Fresh Off the Bus) club in the Zona. Sounds like it still is.I was told some years back that girls who go to work in the zona from the interior of Mexico always start out at TB and I think this is still the case. After they get broke in here then they move across the street to HK, AB or even las chavelas. I don't hang in TB much these days but I have met chicas in this place who just drink and dance. I largely agree the problem is find a SG that is will do BBJ and do a good job. There is is one girl named Karina / Carina that hangs out near the east end of the alley on the HK side. She has high cheek bones and is very sweet. Carina does CBJ is very willing please. Currently Carina is on vacation for about a year I believe. In many cases I will ask for BJ and the girls want $10 extra. Samantha that hang out in front of the Cascada hotel wants $30 min for a CBJ only and then wants extra for sin ropa. The US customs plans to tear down the old pedestrian crossing building on the east side. It is unclear if they plan to build another facility to allow people to cross on the east side.

The other problem is that the ramps near the river look kind of unsafe and rickety. So I would keep crossing on the east side at least for now.

In my case I also spent 1 hour round trip driving to and from the interview. So, 2 hours plus $100 is what GE cost me. Total calendar was probably 2 or 3 months from application completion to card in hand. That card typically saves me an hour each time I cross the border plus about 20 minutes each time I get on an airplane.

I've now had it for 2. 5 years and it has probably saved me over 80 hours waiting at TSA plus waiting at the border. It's a huge return on investment for me.
