Anyone on Ridge Rd in Lansing around 2 pm today? This chick here was stopping traffic. Steep odds against the zone car showing up before you finish and skedaddle even if it's your 5th round of the night. I do check out a spot for live cameras. I also stay away from houses and two / three-flats where there's people living. Abando's are safe enough but being in somebody's back yard or alley gives you a good chance of getting spotted and busted. Maybe busted in the head with a shovel. Bigger buildings (4+ units) can have better blind spots if you're not in a car, but the odds of someone coming by your car spot behind a big building are kind of high.

I've never had crime trouble in this area. It sure looks sketchy, but there's just nobody around to mug you. I've left my car parked for a couple hours while I, um, / ran some errands / in a nearby house and didn't have any trouble.
The biggest non-date hazard I've run into around here is the intersection at 5th / Kostner. Folks blow that light all the damn time so give it a second when you get the green going across Kostner, make sure there isn't a maniac about to send you home in a cab, trying to explain exactly where your car got wrecked and why you were there.
There's plenty of out-of-state plates rolling around Chicago so I don't think that flags you either for cops or muggers. Might give a cop an excuse to pull you over, but they don't need to reach to think of something. Just make sure your stickers are right and you're not flagrantly breaking the law and you're as safe from the cops as anyone else in this town.
