I got to looking at the crime map again because the busts on E. 56th Ave got me to thinking. 2 busts, at the same location (non-AMP) , on 2 consecutive days. My gut tells me that it was a sting operation. And all these new providers coming out of the woodwork on BP doesn't make the feeling go away.
We may be coming to another one of those periods where it's best to stick to known commodities. In the meantime, I recommend that everyone be extremely careful with whom they choose to deal with. OTDon't need theories, as it's pretty clear what happened here. Used to hear about it all the time when I worked in the hospitality industry. Guy got off luckier than most, however, as the usual SOP for this sort of operation is for the pimp to hide just out of sight of the peephole, and as soon as he hears the lock disengage, push past the girl and rush into the room to jump the guy. At least he got a little action first, before getting robbed. My guess is these girls might not have been looking to rob him at first, but after telling their pimp about the nice things they noticed in the room such as said laptop, he might have decided to pay the dude a visit. These guys will be caught though, as Microtel has cameras on all the exits and entrances, so it's only a matter of time before all involved are busted. What surprises me most is the way the guy came clean about what happened before the robbery. He easily could have said he noticed the guys eyeing him earlier, when the cops asked why they thought he was specifically targeted. Just goes to show that if you can't keep a cool, clear head, then this probably isn't the hobby for you.

Sorry, I assumed most people who are posting here are familiar with Alaska. It was unexpected that someone doesn't know a common term like "the slope". It's short for NORTH SLOPE, I think because the curvature of the earth is steeper approaching the North Pole where they discovered oil.
What you may not realize too, is that the workers don't need money to live and work there. All lodging and food is provided by their companies. There are people who drive up as tourists to stay a night and get a tour of the oil fields but outside a hotel and restaurant there is not much of an economy that you would normally think about in even a small rural town.
I went on a few dates with a woman who worked up there in catering. It isn't like there arent any females up there. You can imagine after working 12plus hours, most are too tired for any romantic activity on the side. What she told me was that alot of the men were pretty aggressive to try and get something off her. She wasnt exactly a beauty queen either. It's just not practical for them in terms of keeping a job. They have roommates that work the opposite shift. It doesn't leave much privacy to remain discreet. Not to say it doesn't happen.
When the guys leave the slope, if they are not heading back to Texas or Florida, likely they go to Las Vegas, Mexico, or Hawaii. They have lots of travel miles and commonly upgrade their seats to First Class. Many can afford full fare tickets to Honolulu for just the weekend at the last minute. You will see them getting drunk off their ass in the airport bar.

O TFairview is still alive. Though,"well" is a matter of opinion. The action is pretty much concentrated on 12th Ave, between Gamble and Hyder. Be advised, there are no gems there. The "ladies" are pretty rough looking, and usually drunk or stoned off their asses. And then, there are a bunch of want to-be pimps hanging around them trying to control everything. Occasionally, you can find one that has broken away and is strolling the area behind the Carr's. Eventually they head back over to 12th.

I was riding my bike from Anchorage to Eagle River this afternoon when the front tire went flat. I had just crossed the Ship Creek bridge and still had quite a ways to go. I learned the hard way not to get too desperate in Alaska. Provider quality is low and prices are high, it's just the nature of the beast. If they are not reviewed on a legit site, if the pictures are remotely fake I don't go. This leaves you with only 1-2 quality locals at best. Want more bang for your buck, go down south.
