While in Chicago, I made the practice of (a) learning Chinese. Makes it easier to communicate (b) Use Google Translate for extended conversations, and (c) use WeChat (vs phone numbers). By using WeChat I've manages to keep in contact with over 40 contacts as they come and go from one shop to another. It might be that the girls in California speak a little more English so WeChat is not as critical. But in Chicago it made a real difference.

Took the dive and called up Cris. Now I can say those posted photos is either a different gal or she's using photos from her younger years. Went for the half and got a upgrade. 6 She's got soft skin. Please understand I'm not trying to pick on you but just offer for you information.
I know there's a lot of old posts but reading through the old reviews and getting a sense as to where places are by what people write about them is one way.
You can look at Rub maps and even if you're not a member you can search alphabetically and see where spas are located but you can't read the reviews and you won't know Kind and quality of service for sure but it's something.
V spa is now out of business but it was a mostly Chinese full-service place on kearny Villa Road that had a pretty wide ranging rotation of the girls. Some of them absolutely awesome. It was $40 a half hours $60 an hour and the tips would vary from 100 to 160 depending on the girl and the current market conditions.
A spa was a "sister spa" to V spa and was also in Kearny Mesa and closed last year as well.
These weren’t abbreviations or code, it was just the names of the places were simple and easy to remember names

V-spa 107 coincidentally and unfortunately had the same unit number as a "professional" spa the next building over. I think very few places the girl splits the tip.
It's almost always the case that the tip belongs to the girl and she may or may not get a piece of the house fee depending on the shop and the services offered.
The only exception that I've seen firsthand is a Thai place (no longer around) where the girl was giving some of her tips to the boss. But I think there was repaying of some personal debts going on and it was not the standard practice.
I had known the owner for a couple years and would usually chat with her about Thailand for a few minutes after a session. It was during this time when the girl that had just taking care of me came in and handed some money to the boss. In response to my curious look, she just said she " give back".

Well, I can't say every place is that way, but all the girls I knew in Chicago would split the door with the owner and keep 100% of the tip. So our door fee was $60 with $30 going to the girl, plus she kept the tip. However California might be a little different. The new law in Cali has largely eliminated 1099 income and replaced it with W2 income. Uber got a carve out with the recent proposition. But. As it stands now a full time worker, working under her name as a massage therapist can't be 1099. Has to be W2. So the shop includes a tip component in the W2 "Wages and Tips" line. Since we haven't owned a shop here in Cali yet can't say for sure, but my partner did work a little but last year and her boss arbitrarily assigned a tip amount on which she was taxed. So. That's a long-winded way of saying perhaps the girls don't want their owner to know the full amount of their tips so that those tips wouldn't be counted by the owner as part of their taxable income. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who is familiar with the common practice in California so that when we open we'll be abiding by common local practice.
