This isn't meant to be critical of Kgodk01. Just so many have heard from various sources from braggarts to the local news about the playground. They have this vision of unlimited pussy and BJs. I used to walk the stroll all the time. It not unsafe but certainly not safe. It takes a fair bit of risk and some times it is worth it but most times probably not. You will have to either look around for some spots that you find safe beforehand or experiment and use the spots the girls show you, which usually come in handy later since they are probably more knowledgeable than you when you first start walking. As time goes on of course you should be able to find arrangements that make you feel comfortable.
Walking though has it benefits as you will be able to get more numbers and talk up girls who are on the sidelines. You might have to go to drug spots and other undesirable areas so it has it drawbacks. Under the bridge before Lehigh is a known spot but they are other drugs spots nearby where you can find girls to talk to. If you want to find a little more variety than those that straight walk up the ave. This might be an opinion but not for the faint of heart.
Unlike most I don't really worry about getting robbed cause they will more likely rob one of the passed out zombies than an alert and confident person. I have been called a cop or more correctly they mumbled it under their breath but I've never seen them do much besides this. The lookouts are weak minded people who spend all day on the same street with no life and addicts are in their own world most of the day. They are less concerned with you than you think. If you do it all I would suggest is same as doing it in a car start slow, walk the ave without picking up a girl a few times then try to talk to a few girls and see what they say. But if you look around though, there are lots of stores, barber shops, people coming and going to hop the EL. Generally it's well lit at night and during the day Kensington ave is slammed with so many people it seems like Hong Kong.
You now have all the transit cops posted at various corners in addition to all the police who drive up and down the ave. You will be fine if you stay on the Ave. You're probably safer during the day when the stores are open.
The problem you might have though is after talking to a number of girls over the years most of them dislike doing walk ups or don't do them at all because they have been met with some type of violence or sexual assault. One girl explained to me that with a walk up date since there is no car she has no way of tracking him down in case something goes bad.
Basically the walk up date lures girls back to secluded spots under the guise of a legitimate date and switch it up and pull guns or knives and expect free service. And I rode through the area both on leisure rides (the bridge shielded the sun), and occasionally as part of a commute. I rarely intended to pick someone up while riding through, but it happened maybe 2-3 times. I remember walking into areas of the rail road with a few girls, which I think is fenced off now.

A few weeks ago, I posted I had been shot at in that same area. Around the same time frame this guy was killed. Those people are not playing.
I don't know what happened or pretend to know other than what those in the area have told me. Whatever it was should cause everyone to take a second look at what they might be doing for safety to avoid circumstances such as this.
Personally, I won't travel Jasper from Castor all the way to Clearfield. Same with Ruth St. If something happens there is no place to escape. The streets are narrow with parking on both sides. One may be quite innocent and find themselves in the middle of a gun battle with no notice and no way out. Happens all the time in Kensington.
Many of the streets that cross Jasper are obstructed right turns. The residents are so lazy they park till every inch of the corner is taken rather than walk any distance to accomplish their mission. Philadelphia Parking Authority does not enforce the $51.00 violation for parking to close to a corner. Nor do they enforce the double-parking violation. It's called selective enforcement.
Until Philadelphia applies the same laws equally to all the citizens there will never be equality there or anyplace else. Might as well toss that dream in the trash.
Recognizing this aspect of life in Kensington is the first step in your safety. Those streets are mean and getting meaner by the hour. We need to stay alert and use caution at every turn. Nobody has your best interest in mind there better than you. Nobody has your back better than you. Do not depend on the police or anybody else to back you up when you are in a corner there.

What's up man. I live in NY and have never been to Philly but looking to.
