You may want to order take-out or fish other areas. The K is hot right now, police are grabbing up the mongers and having them submit DNA swabs. I think I read over 200 persons picked up since November, all in an effort to find the Kensington strangler.
I've visited the stroll quite often, for now I don't even drive thru, if it looks too good it probably is.

On a nightmarish street infested with heroin, rape, and violent crime, prostitutes keep showing up dead. Jeff Deeney visits the city's notorious neighborhood and finds hell on earth.
The rusting, blue steel frame of the El, the elevated portion of Philadelphia's subway, looms over dilapidated Kensington Avenue like a giant centipede's decaying exoskeleton. Known as "the stroll," Kensington Avenue is the hub of Philly's street prostitution scene, where young, drug-addicted women turn tricks for dope money—and where lately, a serial killer stalks them in the sickly orange glow of the streetlamps under the El.
Elaine Goldberg was only 21, a nursing student at a local university who seemed to have a lot going for her, except for a dope habit she couldn't kick. She was found half-naked and strangled to death in a vacant lot not far from the stroll on November 3. A Facebook page went up in the wake of the popular young woman's death. Her life was full of family and friends who were pulling for her to get clean; the memorial page has attracted more than 1, 500 followers and a flood of support and condolences from well-wishers.
Thirty-five-year-old Nicole Piacentini, on the other hand, was an Avenue veteran with a history of drug and prostitution charges. Her death, discovered November 13, didn't make the cut for a Facebook fan page. Her mother was quoted in the paper saying her worst nightmare was her daughter dying like this, alone on the streets and strung out on drugs.
And thanks to a third, unnamed woman who narrowly escaped the Kensington Strangler and came forward on Monday, police now have a sketch of the suspect: a young, light-skinned black or Latino man with a neatly trimmed goatee and close-cropped hair.
The Kensington Avenue stroll forms the eastern boundary of North Philadelphia's notorious Badlands, the nexus of the city's heroin scene for decades. The stroll is set off far enough from the dope corners that the girls don't usually get caught up in the gun violence that routinely erupts over territory—but close enough that they can walk over and cop a bag when they need one. The drugs and the sex are inseparably intertwined here; it's rare to encounter a girl who's not tricking to get her day's dope money up.
The two murdered women are alleged by the prostitutes on the stroll who knew them to have met the same fate in similar ways, by having gone on what the girls call "walking dates." In such a transaction, a John approaches on foot instead of in a car and asks the girl to walk with him to a nearby lot to set a price and have sex. The expansive lot where Elaine Goldberg was strangled is comprised of waist-high weeds with a path cut through them. Following the path into the weeds from the sidewalk feels like disappearing into a Dantean wilderness of addiction-driven depravity. The path is strewn with discarded women's clothes, a toilet turned on its side, and ultimately, a clearing where the muddy ground is coated with empty 1CC syringe wrappers, dirty needles, empty dope bags, used condoms, and a filthy mattress in the dirt where the women turn tricks.
'If you got a drug habit, you got to support it one way or another, ' she said. 'I'm scared out here, sure. I got raped two weeks ago. '
The nearby lot where Nicole Piacentini was strangled is smaller but similarly nightmarish. Set across from a warehouse loading dock, yellow crime tape was still tangled in the weeds where a second path opened immediately into yet another clearing strewn with drug detritus. As I approached the scene, a police officer who was sitting in a cruiser still parked by the crime scene rolled down his window.
"There's a lot of human shit back there so watch where you step," he deadpanned."It ain't mud."
Back on the Avenue a woman named Cat was sitting huddled in a doorway, trying to keep out of the rain. She said she's 30 but looks easily 15 years older. While she looked rough, she was soft-spoken and kind and freely shared the details of her life under the El. She said she was born and raised here in Kensington, started shooting dope when she was 20, added coke to her daily drug regimen four years ago, and has been working the stroll on an off ever since to keep her habit up.
"If you got a drug habit, you got to support it one way or another," she said."I'm scared out here, sure. I got raped two weeks ago. A couple days ago, a John tried to grab my money and punched me in the nose before I could jump out of the car. That shit happens to all of us but it doesn't make us want to get off the street, though. It's crazy, I know."
The more women you talk to out here, the more you come to understand how pervasive sexual violence is on the stroll. It's a fact well-known to social workers who encounter the women in drug-treatment settings, the criminal-justice system, and the prisons. In this population, extensive sexual trauma histories are basically universal.
Cat says she used to get high with Nicole Piacentini before she was murdered. She says she was a good, protective friend; she was part of a sort of sisterhood that many of the women here mention when they talk about life under the El.
"I would look out for her and she would look out for me. We do that out here, we watch out for our own. If we go on a bad date, we walk up and down the Avenue to let other girls know about it. We take a John's license plate when a girl goes on a date in case she don't come back, that sorta thing. She was a nice person."
While she was a nice person, Cat admits that Piacentini had a crippling drug habit she couldn't shake.
"She would stay up for days shooting coke, and then she would get all schitzy, you know. She thought the cops were always about to break the door down, shit like that."
Cat warned of the danger of the "walking date" that all the women working the stroll say sealed the fate of both Piacentini and Goldberg.
"I don't like to do dates with guys who are walking, it's more dangerous. They want you to go down an alleyway, or off somewhere nobody can see you. If I'm in a car, I can always jump out. I can tell a guy to park somewhere I know somebody's going to hear me if I scream, where there's doors I can bang on to get someone to call police if I need to."
Another woman who works the stroll named Jamie echoes the need for this safety precaution.
"I went with a guy who was walking one time and once we were off the street he hit me in back of the head, knocked me down and raped me," she says with a shudder.
A young prostitute named Patty says her parents went to the coroner's office to identify the body because they saw the news about young Elaine Goldberg and thought it was her.
"They called the police district and gave them a description of me. The police thought it was so similar they told her to go down the coroner's office and looked at the body. When they showed the body to my parents, it was covered with a sheet but her hair was sticking out from under it. We have the same color hair, same length of hair, so they assumed it was me. My mom had a nervous breakdown on the spot."
Patty says she and a lot of the women on the stroll are letting the shock of the incidents motivate them to get off the streets. Prostitutes are fleeing to detoxes and sober houses to lay low and try to get clean before they get killed.
"I'm going to Kirkbride (detox) on Thursday, man, I'm scared. I'm scared for all my girlfriends out here who are hooked on dope and living in abandoned houses with no protection. I never been to detox before, this is my first time and I want to get this under control before it gets uncontrollable. My number could come up next."
All of the women I spoke to said that the Philadelphia Police Department bears some responsibility for ignoring episodes of physical and sexual violence against prostitutes so routine they are committed almost casually by the Johns who frequent the stroll. Johns, they say, don't fear repercussions for raping a street walker because they know the cops don't do anything about it.
Patty told me,"I been raped out here so many times and every time I told the cops that I was tricking at the time I was raped they told me to just keep walking. They wouldn't even make a report. And the Vice Squad cops are scumbags, man, they'll put you in the squad car and make you suck their dick or they'll arrest you."
These sentiments were mirrored by all of the prostitutes I surveyed. There is unanimous agreement among the women working the stroll that the police feel that sexual violence is simply an occupational hazard that women who choose this way of life should cope with on their own. That a serial killer would view the stroll as fertile territory for finding easy kills among disposable women, to them, only seems a logical outcome of the long standing unwritten police policies that condone the violence against them.
The police department denies that they actively ignore reported incidents of violence against prostitutes, stating that the incidents don't get reported, because the women are afraid to come forward for fear of catching drug and other criminal charges themselves.
"I come down here to get beat up and raped over what," Patty asks rhetorically."All that for a little blue bag [of heroin]. I can't take even one step out of Kensington anymore. This El," she says, pointing at the train tracks rusting away above her head,"It sucks you in and don't let you go."

Actually not often you see a report that is more or less pretty dead on. I guess being from the area, I find it not as scary as the report says. But I can see how others can. One point that was covered in which you rarely see mentioned is the corruption of the Phila PD. The PD and our court system has kept our mongering haven in tact for many years. We'll have to see what happens after they catch the strangler. Will all slowly return to normal or never again be the same?

LMThe only problem with the airport hotels is traffic. Even though the distance is close (about 10 minute drive) in traffic it can be torture to get to. And having a SW'er in the car in a traffic jam can be a nightmare. As far as NJ, I'd stick with Cherry Hill vs Glouster or Runnedmead unless your plannning on mongering in Camden. Holiday Inn, Cherry Hill is about 20 minutes most times of the day.
Maybe with your software you add some Holly and Wintery Pines to the picture, and make it a Street Steve Holiday Treat.

Hey we all know Jackie from Huntington Station. Well one of the great things about her is her teaching skills. Let me say this-the forum existed for many years before SE came along and it was fine. It will continue to exist with or without your contributions, and certainly without his.

I don't think I'll be able to get over you guys that accept and seem to celebrate the 'outing' of a fellow monger, regardless of his horrible crimes in your eyes. Your mentality makes it dangerous for anyone that disagrees with you. At least if you disagreed with Super, he would just give you a written 'beating' LOL. This new mentality isn't new at all, it's fascism. It's saying that if I disagree with you, I will destroy you. What you guys are doing is stifling others, making a threatening environment where it is unsafe because you might get 'outed'. Year ago I live in Nicetown where I was in charge of a rather large historic property. I did quite a bit of mongering in the neighborhood too. There were several regulars for me. I haven't seen nearly as much action on the south end as I've seen on the north end ever since the stranger started his rampage. Apparently what I heard was she died from a Cocaine overdose. Also word on the streets was that she overdosed in Bishops house and he had someone move her body. If you look at the news, they even mention that the body found was dumped in the abando. So if this is true and there is anyway that Bishop was involved, I sure hope the Police have gotten drift of this info that is going around on the streets. Unfortunately the police in Phila seem to turn their heads when it comes to the pimps and there activities.

I cruised down the K yesterday afternoon and didn't see anyone all the way the whole length down from Frankford. Only did one pass, so don't know if it was just my timing or not.
I drove down again this morning, about 845am, and I saw at least 3 girls working. I somewhat decent looking got into a car right as I was driving by, in the north end. The other two I saw way down in the south end. On my way to work, so didn't have time to do more than one pass, just was curious how things would be.

Your best bet for now is to stake out corners or routes to those corners and be ready to act. Approaching on foot may again be a viable option since I'm guessing the random stops for DNA collection have ended.

Where else would they go?A lot of these girls do not like being out there in the winter as you might expect, so quite a few simply hibernate in rehab for the winter. This also gives them a chance to lower their tolerance to whatever their drug of choice is so they don't need to do 300 bucks worth just to get high once. CookyJarI guess it's time I get off my duff. I think spring will bring things back to normal. I personally find it to be apita to drive through terrible weather to spend a few hours being disappointed. I'll admit my standards are probably a little high.
All the John bust probably contribute to #5. I wonder if this is the highest number for a single operation. You usually hear about 10-15, not over 50. That can have a chilling effect.

CookyJarIt's part of my route out of the area. Occasionally will see one, south of the shopping district. The civilain traffic has increased considerably due to the redevelopment of the Northern Liberties / Fishtown areas.

CookyJarThat area has been dry for a long time. Very rare these days to see anything down that way.
I found myself on the K in the early evening on Saturday which I've never done before. The pickings were pretty slim. I did end up hooking up with Mindy for a FS date. I also hooked up with Laura for nice BBBJ. Laura is a pretty and tall brunette. She's a little on the chunky side but not a BBW. I've seen her a few times on the north end. Laura doesn't allow pics and I've posted Mindy's before.

I made my way to Philly earlier this week and hit the K while it was still light out. Didn't see many girls out but ran into Katie who I first met in December and who went by Celly at that time. After years of mongering in Brooklyn bronx queens manhattan I tried the K because of the total disentegration of hunts point and the other strolls. What the fuck. Every time I see a provider I duck down a side street for a comeback look and the next thing I know I'm redirected or delayed by stop signs red lights dead ends, one way streets out of know where, or streets that have weird angles that disorient you and get you lost. I seems like the traffic commissioner was given an endless budgit and went wild. This shit is funny. By the way, you people are great. NY is the we got beef capitol of the world.

Found Kate who sometimes uses the name Kelly on the northern part of the stroll, a block off K. I like them petite and Kate is certainly that. She was all bundled up but I'm guessing she's probably about 5'3" and not much more than 100 pounds. This is a girl Street Steve first reported on in September. So I went down to K to see what I could find. Got there around 1030 and it was pretty dead. Saw one WSW up past DD near frankford but when I turned back around she was already picked up. Kept driving and decided DD was a good stop to make. While there I didn't even see one girl. I sat there for about 20 minutes and decided to move on.
I drove up and back a bit to see what I could see. There were at least 3 marked cars, and when I stopped for about 15 minutes I saw at least 3 ULE.
I watched them for a while to see what was going on and followed one down towards DD again. There was a small girl on the corner of K and Pike St. Saw one guy pick her up and then ULE swooped in to get him at DD. Poor bastard! The girl got back out and walked back toward pike and the car dealership and got into a white Dodge Charger unmarked with a guy and a girl and drove off. Don't know exatcly what is going on but thought I should tell everyone.
Couldn't find a girl who I could stop for quick enough to pick up today. May try again Wednesday if Hottie Nicole doesn't PM me.

Sounds more like a sting operation. The girl gets in a mongers car, ULE pulls the car over, the girls walks AWAY? And gets into another car. A Dodge Charger. W a guy and a girl. The girl who walked was undercover bait in the sting. Then she gets into an unmarked car w two others. Kind of obvious she wasn't an SW.

Now here is the strange part: I asked can I give you a ride and she responded "I'm dating" to which I told her let's just take a ride. She brought up the word date again so I. Declined and got the hell out of there. She either must have been new or a LE decoy.

Unless you knew this girl previously, I believe you may have taken a serious risk by agreeing to anything through your window. Putting aside any common "rules of engagement," most SWs know that most men will not discuss anything with a SW through the window. Personally, if the girl either does not immediately get in the car or if she asked me to roll down my window, I move on to the next girl.
If I may give an example, my most recent date was perfect, but it started with a bit of anxious moments. I posted about it previously but to make a long story short, I waved a girl who I thought was a SW to my car. Instead of her going to the passenger door, she came to the driver door. The only time I ever saw a sting was a time when I went into DD. I got back into the car and saw a SW come up to a car to my left. She talked to the guy, through the window, for maybe 10 seconds and then LE swooped up behind the guy's car. That is about as close as I want to get to a sting.

I'd say it is extremely rare during a sting for a female officer to enter a vehicle and drive off in it. More likely for a reverse sting (cop is the john) to allow a SW to enter his car instead. Too many dangers letting a female undercover cop get into a car with a unknown guy.
I've seen, and also heard, that the warrant detail (usually driving unmarked dark colored SUVs) will stake out a SW or SW hotspot and wait for someone to pick up the girl. They'll then swoop in and make a traffic stop. They'll either try and get the bust for solicitation if the guy is stupid enough to cop, or at least they will have the chance to run the guy for warrants, and if he has any, arrest him. I've seen it at least two times, where the SW is let out of the car straight away after the stop and told to beat it. The warrant detail seems to have been focusing purely on the johns, and could care less about the SW. I guess they figure they know where they are and can pick them up anytime if they have a warrant.

CookyJarI am a newbie to this Forum, but a long-time monger in Kensington. CookyJar has been posting here for 4 years plus And didn't realize that Erie becomes Torresdale at the K? Some oversights are understandable, but a raw rookie monger or LEO could have figured that one out on his first day.
I have been mongering on the K for a long time, but I have not become a member here or contributed until just recently. There seems to have been a lot of complaining about the relative unavailability of girls on the Ave recently mainly due to this strangler guy, who they now appear to have in custody. I did notice a drastic pickup of LE during the holidays and while they were looking for the strangler. Things are back to normal now.
It only took me one pass from north to south to scope out a number of good possibilities. There were many new faces. At least they were new faces to me and, like I said, I have been dating girls on the K a long time. There was the usual posting at Buckius, some fugly, fat, older WSW. There was a really pretty spinner at Sedgley but she was on the other side of the street and another monger had already stopped and was talking to her through his window. Cruised the K walk tonight around 7pm after work. I was just window shopping as I didn't feel the need to stop on a Friday night with a fair number of LE about. I wish I had brought funds in preparation for a change of heart, however, as there were plenty of SW's about, especially in the south end near cambria.
There was a strange sighting, I feel worth mentioning. Driving past DD near Luzerne I saw what appeared to be a promising WSW smoking a cigarette, separated from the bus stop group a bit. I was so fixated on her I didn't notice the LE car across the street on the side walk OR the LE comm truck just next to her (prolly a good thing I wasn't actively mongering). The strange part was when the LE car sounded its siren for a moment she through her smoke to the ground and immediately got in a box truck which had been parked behind her the entire time with its lights off. The truck then drove off with her. If this is some sort of sting, I hate to say it, but perhaps the gent deserves to be caught with all the heat clearly around. But that's just my opinion.

Whilst SE's posts may have been "overly indulged" [point of conjecture], and while most of those viewing and commenting on his work may have been from out of the area, his "outing" has had a purely negative effect on the suburban and central PA threads. Prior to mid-December '10, a stale post in Philly was one more than 5 hours old. There are now lapses in excess of 36-hours between posts in what was once a very active forum. Likewise, the suburban and central PA forum members would often go to the Philly threads first, then migrate back to their locale. Now, a fresh post is one which is less than a month old.
My question: Was the outing of SE worth it? , and if so, why / how?
I for one agree that the absence of SE on the board has been felt by many for sometime. He brought something to the board that has not been seen here since. I don't live in Philly but have traveled there several times so some might consider me an outsider but SE helped me on my trips to Philly with advice and info something other guys wouldn't do. He posted regularly with pictures the guy was a pussy hound and everyone knew it. He never treated me as an outsider he was a good guy in my book.
To the haters I hope it was worth it too.

Secondly-if there has been a slowdown, it is the result of reality as the rest of us know it. It has been an unusually cold and cruel Winter made more chaotic on the streets of Kensington by the long-running Strangler situation. The SW population has been thinned down quite a bit in the process.
There has also been an enhanced Police presence, leading to many girls being harassed and many mongers being scared away-not to mention some being entrapped by U LEO stings. So, if there is not much going on, well, then we haven't a lot to write about.

You've answered my question, although in an indirect manner. I've seen references noting the fact that some members are "esteemed","honorable", and even "well respected". The "nobody" comment regarding the continuation of commentary / investigation of facts, and the statement insinuating that persons from other areas of the region essentially have "no life" all lead to the conclusion that if one is not a member of, or in somewhat total agreement with what appears to be a clique, to stay the hell out of the Philly forum.

First off, I stand by every word in my previous comment. Since SE was outed, a number of members have made cracks about it and continue to use his actual name. I thought it was wrong to out him and I think it's still wrong how some continue to gloat about it.
It is true that between the winter and the strangler both the K and the threads would be expected to slow down. However, SE posted about half of the activity on the Philly thread. For many, that's a great thing. For others like myself I enjoyed reading his posts and looked pasted the unwanted pics and exagerations.
As far as threats, that is not what I meant and I apologize if that's how it came out. I meant it as a warning to posters like myself who aren't part of the old guard that what happened to SE could happen to us as well. Once you've witnessed a lynching you're never quite the same.

Well, Sat. Morning and I found myself cruising the Ave. Again. Didn't have high hopes but I'm always on the lookout regardless. To my utter surprise, a cutie that I have wanted to meet for the longest time caught my eye. She was wearing jeans and high heels and sporting a brunette dye job. It was Holly! As I passed her she gave the subtlest look that if you didn't know any better was just a passing glance. I turned left onto the next street, I glanced back to see her change her direction towards me. Almost hit the el support during the turn. With so many cars, junk, and snow piles still present, I could barely park in order to let the car behind me pass. As I waited I see her round the corner. To my utter disbelief and dismay she walks back onto the ave. So I ended up looping the area for at least twenty minutes. I had hoped that we spot each other again.
During this time, I passed the same sitting patrol car a few times on a side street and was even followed by another. I didn't mind, as I wasn't doing anything wrong. I was going to mention that I'm having trouble finding a business in the area if questioned.
I had passed a few good potentials, but just simply lost interest at that point. Just like when you're fishing and you pull up a beautiful largemouth bass up to the boat only to lose it. All of the other fishing for the day is not as interesting.
I had called on a favorite UTR girl again, but didn't get a response. Sunday morning, there was a message that wasn't there the night before. She wanted to meet! WTF, almost 24 hrs later the message shows up!
So I had an interesting drive in the area, but didn't meet anyone within the time limit that I had available.
In retrospect, I like to analyze any situations, good or bad to see how the events played out. I know Cooky reported on Tracy last week but I got an opportunity to have a date with her as well. She is a very sweet girl and told me she is usually located just past Huntington on the K. We got to my place and received a very exquisite BBBJ. Here are some car tips for mongers that I've learned in retrospect. Don't go on the ave with your car buffed up. Girls will think that you have a lot of money available by having such a nice clean car. On the other hand, if you let your car get "dirty up" in order to blend in with all of the other filthy cars. At LEAST wash your windows! While driving under the EL, especially around dawn or dusk, there are glares on your dirtied windows and shadows from the surroundings to contend with. Horrible combinations as you don't want to hit anything or anyone. It is also easier to see the ladies with clean windows.
Picked up Sarina near Madison Street (off the K) at about 9pm on Tuesday 3/8/11. Petit to medium build Puerto Rican. Very friendly. Settled for. 4 for BBBJCIM / DT. VERY good skills. Would repeat. Traffic was moderate, but only saw about 4 LE.

I emptied the contents of the recycle bin on the inside of the car. Then I wet the car down. Hard to do when its beading up. And shook the shop vac filter so it would stick to the wet areas. When that didn't produce enough of the right effect, I was forced to literally toss mud on the car. Even made sure to goop up the wheels too. After some minor hosing down to get the excess off, the ride looked like it had been parked on a Philly side street for months.
Must have worked well as when we parked in the vicinity of the hotel, there were a few independent businessmen working hard to counter act the effects of anti-gravity on their porch steps. Car was unmolested on return.
So after dropping the date off, a quick shower for the car and one of those wand places, and I returned home no worse for the wear. Funny thing is a couple of days later I parked the clean car in front of a shop near the hood and as I waited for the mechanic, an independent businessman came into the shop and offered to buy my ride.
Don't discount the "value" of normal ride.

So, I am in town on business and thought I'd take a look at Philly's ever popular K Ave. This was Sunday afternoon around 3pmor so, and I spotted "Kelly" a WSW walking along the avenue in a hoodie and torn jeans.
