My guess is they want the info in case something comes of it, like a lawsuit or insurance claim, and the accident report is needed by someone to show who was there etc etc.

Boil your answer down to a single sentence don't make it detailed. If you were visiting a friend you don't have to name the friend or provide the address.

ALSO. Don't have a smart phone visible or have a smart phone mount on your dash. It's hard to claim you are lost or looking for an address if you have a smart phone sitting oout in plain site.

They'll try to intimidate you but you don't HAVE to answer any questions, that's the whole 'you have the right to remain silent' thing.

If they had evidence to arrest you they would, so unless your plate or sticker is expired or you did some idiot driving maneuver they are stopping you to intimidate you and see if you are dumb enough to incriminate yourself so they CAN arrest you. Don't do their job for them.

If you were dumb enough to say that and the cop is annoyed enough that he wants to deal with the paperwork of booking you, you just tell your attorney is "I never said that, the cop is lying" and there's no evidence of your intent.
