Not to beat a dead horse guys but there are two scenarios that would have to happen if LE wanted to stop her from entertaining guests. 1) confront and scare a visitor enough to induce an admission of guilt and to implicate her for their own lenient treatment and/ or 2) set up a sting by sending in an agent to visit her . In the news today is an announcement that multiple states AGs are pushing CL owners to drop the Adult category (including Va). If this happens (which is doubtful) LE interest will move to other boards to sting offenders. We all know that CL/BP is a huge risk already as the primary playground for Vice. It is an endless source for busts since providers keep popping up there like Whack-a-moles at the fairground. They can keep their bosses happy with on the ball policing , the bosses can keep the politicos happy in keeping this heinous crime off the streets and out of the public view .

Lance, CL's argument on that issue has always been that if you eliminate the adult sections, the ads will just move to the other sections where they're harder to track/manage. That's what was happening before the adult sections were set up.
I agree with them. Already we have ads for adult services in other sections - even the "beauty" section. The extra policing by CL staff and the disallowing of explicit pictures has rendered the existing Adult Services section pretty much useless (unless you like phone sex, heh) and the ads have moved to BP and elsewhere. But given time and pressure on the other sites, the ads will come back to CL - just in other sections.
The cops will still watch CL. And the ads will still appear somewhere. Unless someone gets tired of the stupidity, and sets up an offshore site that's untouchable by governmental threats.

I don't totally agree with that. LE can only investigate and accuse you or anyone of a crime. You remain accused until you plead guilty or found guilty in a court of law. Read the law - an admission to committing a crime is not an admission of guilt and can only be used as evidence against you. That's only after you've been "Miranidized." Anything prior to a Miranda warning can't be used against you. You can talk all you want, but LE and state attorney's still have to investigate a confession to make sure it's valid. A confession is not enough evidence to formally charge anyone or convict you. The only real confession is when someone pleads guilty.
LE's job is to obtain the evidence needed to formally charge you - misdemeanor or not. They don't have to actually witness a crime. A complainant or witness to a crime are other ways - including video tapes, recordings and surveillance cameras. Circumstantial evidence can also be enough to formally charge someone even convict them. You don't need LE to charge someone. You or anyone can go to a magistrate's office, accuse someone of a crime or a crime committed against you and have them formally charged.
Speaking of confessions .. there are certainly enough of those around here and on related sites in the form of well-written and detailed reviews.
On the misdemeanor charges, LE has to either witness the act, or one of the parties has to confess. The cops are well trained at getting you to admit your guilt, and most people run their mouth when they should keep it shut.

RM, I don't disagree with you - I am not a lawyer, so I can only go by what I read and see, and the points you make are valid from a legal-theory and civics-class view of the system.
However, I *have* been busted in this game, long ago in a galaxy far far away, so I have some practical experience... and in my experience, the theory differs some from the real world. As a practical matter, the judge rubber-stamps whatever the cops do unless there is some obvious, gross error, and the cops are well trained on what they need to do to get enough evidence so that the judge can comfortably convict. There's no doubt that people run their mouths when they should be quiet, and the cops are also well-trained in getting people to do this. In these situations most end up pleading guilty or nolo contendre - the only way you have a prayer against this sort of charge is to hire a good attorney and pay thru the nose, and even then your chances are slim.
Moreover, these day with arrest records being accessible to job-screening services, and nonsense like the "Gotcha!" rags and the PD websites spreading your picture all over town, just being arrested can ruin your career, your marriage, your friendships, even if you're ultimately ruled innocent.
Now, where and when I was busted, the suspect is only issued a summons like a traffic ticket (no trip to the precinct, no mug shot or fingerprints) but unlike traffic court you had to show up before the judge; the fine and costs totaled about $400 back then. Things are different here and now, but the rules of evidence are still pretty similar. Those rules of evidence are somewhat different between misdemeanors and felonies, due to the higher standards needed to convict on a felony. But the general rule of thumb remains: keep your wits about you, don't let the cop see you exchange money for sex, and don't admit that you did anything illegal, and you are FAR less likely to be arrested.

JJust to be clear, were undercover cops using the girl's phone and making appointments? I think what bothers me about this is that LE would have the right to confiscate and use a provider's phone. It seems like you'd at least need a warrant for that. That's almost as bad as taking a john's car.

I understand that providers don't post their services on BP for their own legal reasons, but in doing that a certain level of service is implied.
