My adventures through the Voluptuous, Thailand province of Northern Virginia has continued. This checkpoint, Vandara. I'm not going to lie, I was skeptical about this leg of the trip. Massage oasis has been mentioned in the past but I figure it is time to mention it again. I've been going there for 3 plus years, it is a totally legit place with professional masseuses, that is my experience. $60/ hour.
Early on I tried all of the masseuses to see which provided the best massage. It was a toss up until Qiu (pronounced 'chew') showed up. She is a very nice, always professional and experienced masseuse who deploys multiple different modalities in her routine massage. I rate her in the very top tier of masseuses I have experienced in my many years of seeking their help.
For those of you needing a a solid massage for whatever aches you have, I don't think you will regret trying her massage. She will focus on the area you point out and when you come back in, she checks to see how you are doing. Sophia is the owner and she gives a great massage as well, the two other masseuses are new and I can't speak for them. They will also do cupping for you if you think that will help.

That's tough brahs. Sorry your visits weren't enjoyable. As Hornet Brah said below, ones tour of Independent, Thailand, USA is absolutely a YMMV affair. In my experience, it's what separates that world from the other options under the massage umbrella. Chinese spots you're at least going to get a massage, nova'd, and you'll see some teddies if you bump up the tip. Korean spots you're at least going to get a table shower, massage, nova'd and you'll see some teddies if you bump up the tip. Thai independent visits are a box of chocolates.
I've had flip experiences with some Thai independents that have come remarkably close to FS. I've also received random hangout experiences that I'd never share here either. I'm not trying to be a douche. However if a Thai independent asks me after my session "Hey, do you have plans? I don't have any more appointments and I want to watch a few episodes of Friends. Will you watch with me and hold me?" that's a serious YMMV situation that everyone won't get. It's also one that would definitely end if publicized. And I'm not tipping them crazy either. I've never given a Thai Indy more than. 4 ever.
That being said I've also seen independents who reputable brahs have reported on and said they've gotten way more than the regular nova I did. The game itself can be a YMMV roll of the dice, but this is the ever present reality of the Thai independent experience. Chemistry with the providers is essential and can make or break a visit.

I have seen specifically this happen at the Chinese AMP you mentioned as well as a few of the other Chinese AMPs in Manassas, as well as other Chinese AMPs I have visited in Falls Church, Annandale, and near Dulles. One Chinese AMP that I have seen change the sheets is Nikki's place, Massage Dragon, just down the street from the place you mentioned above.
I think Chinese AMPs overall try to do things on the cheap to try to milk a dollar out of a penny.

DC002While YMMV is always a consideration, it's also true that some providers are consistently good, others consistently poor, and still others for whom the quality of the session varies (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot).
Providers are human beings and can have a bad day or be under stress from personal issues or dealing with bad clients, etc. But the good providers seem to have an ability to compartmentalize and, if their service varies at all, it's still usually somewhere between above average to excellent. They rarely allow negativity to creep into the session and, if something is really bothering them, they will often admit the problem, offer an apology, and perhaps even a full or partial refund.
Inconsistent providers, OTOH, bring the negativity right into the session. Sometimes they're clueless that they're doing it and other times they're aware but just don't care. I haven't experienced that with Vandara but it doesn't surprise me if that's the case. I like her massage but there were a few sessions in which I didn't receive the full time for the session. For that reason alone I haven't repeated for a while, although her 90 min specials for $120 are sometimes tempting.
I guess the best we can do is to post in the forum about our experiences and try to look for providers with a reputation for being consistently good. If there's good personal chemistry, that's obviously a plus. But I've had poor sessions from providers with whom I thought I had great chemistry and with whom I'd had mind-blowing sessions. So I guess the bottom-line is that provider personality trumps all.

Since I had TIME today, I dropped by one of my low-cost reliable spots in Woodbridge off of Old Bridge.
They occasionally get new talent in, but the manager (tall, good build, C's) always gives a solid massage and light tease before the flip. This place should be avoided because I don't think we should be exposed to any types of bacterial infection. Saw that and decided to give Lilly a try. 1. Most of the therapists who advertise on MassageAnywhere are legit and their ads can be found on other legit sites or just by doing a web search for massage + (insert location). Why pay for freely available info?
2. MassageAnywhere seems to have quite a few stale ads which should have been purged. I've tried calling some (for legit massage) only to have the number be invalid. Why pay for info which may not be current and accurate?
3. You can hack MassageAnywhere searches by first doing a search for the zip code in which you're interested and choosing a 20-30 mile search radius. Then follow that up by searching other nearby zip codes (within the original radius). You'll see that each search will yield almost the same results, but with maybe 3 or 4 differences. Depending on the area, and how many searches you do, you might uncover 6-10 more therapist ads than you would with a single search. I have no idea if even more extra ads might be revealed by a "Friends Token" but, in view of the above, I don't think it's worth paying to find out.

Had some time the afternoon of 7/4 and popped into my local Bamboo Therapy in Springfield.

I called ahead to make sure someone was available at Garden Spa in Fairfax. The location is right at a busy intersection, and neither parking nor entry into the spa is discrete. I got the go ahead, so I soon pulled into the lot, parked and went inside.

Its quite uncomfortable / bizarre going through the lobby in a robe, if you have to go to the restroom, or if waiting for her to get ready for an appointment. The room has a glass door, on which she placed curtains. Open the door. And bam there you are on the table. I liked the old place, much, much better. This new place is just to public, even if you are just going for a legit massage.
I asked her why she changed. She stated the old place was going to turn her massage room into another Thai massage room. That story didn't quite hold together, however. As rarely was anyone else in the other rooms while I was there. I also know that she has been on and off with the "partner" or owner of the place on Curran. As she has had to set up shop next door before temporarily, while sorting out the issues. My suspicions is that the Craigslist ban has recently cut into her business, and she is having to cut costs.

It truly was. On any given day you could go to downtown DC and hit no less than a half dozen shops fully staffed with hot K girls in there 20's. FS all day long. Lineups to choose from, etc. If you didn't feel like driving to the city, no problem because there were at least that many shops scattered around and VA offering the same level of service. Although, IMO DC shops staffed the 8's, 9's and 10's while the burbs had the 7's and 8's.

There were plenty of Asian massage parlors in DC with young, attractive staff on duty, as well as the famous H&H flotation place in Northwest. There were American, Asian and Russian massage parlors in the Maryland suburbs. It was also a golden age for me since I traveled quite a bit around the mid-Atlantic and got to visit places in a number of areas where the pickings are slim today. A dream of this place in a professional medical complex on backlick. Spa sung definitely takes the prize for most professional looking AMP that rivals and maybe perhaps even beats some of the professional chain spas. If you're concerned about hygiene, rest assured Helen keeps the place very clean and well maintained. Her CMT skills are also professional quality and you can tell she takes passion in her craft, even knows what places are tender and what muscles to stretch. Helen is older, but because she's in such great shape (partially due to surgery I'm sure) she can easily pass for 30.

.When back to my old favorite, Best Therapeutic. Had my typical wonderful time and reasonable rates (not negotiated in advance since I am a regular). Mentioned the bad review because it was the opposite of my great experiences there. The Manager apologized that this happened and got rid of Cherry. She apparently was pretty but not of the same cultural & professional background and frame of mind as the Best Therapeutic philosophy, of giving good experiences at reasonable market rates and having people come back again and again as regulars, like me. She was very upset and sorry that that happened and fixed it quickly. Actually appreciated the feedback!

This past week at my office was horrible. We had a deliverable due that had the whole team working 12-14 hour days and that included Friday. Want to correct the post about Tara putting on weight. She went on a diet exercise program when she was back in Thailand has actually lost 22 lbs and looks much like her old pictures. Really! The AMP was in NoVA, but the finish was straight out of Greenbelt. If the "standard NoVA finish" is by mano, the "standard Greenbelt" is by manko. When I go to Greenbelt I want to go all the way in Greenbelt.
I used to provide more detail in my reports, but I'm more cautious in the FOSTA / SESTA era. Especially reporting on NoVA experiences that are beyond standard NoVA. I figured anyone who's pretty AMP-savvy in this area would understand. Maybe it doesn't matter.
Bottom line is I had a nice time.

I have been to one MD massage parlor and the service seemed the same as those I have experienced in NOVA. Granted it's a sample size of one. Can you elaborate on the difference?At Maryland AMPs the menu is pretty wide open in my experience. My last few experiences at Maryland AMPs were as follows:
1) Went to Seven in Temple Hills. Early 40's Korean chick named Angie in a short sun dress with DD teddies on display was my provider. House 6, got TS, pretty good massage, flipped with 15 minutes left, asked how much I was tipping, told her 5, she asked what I wanted, I told her teds and tugs, she asked if that was it, I told her yes, she removes dress, I see she also has a flat stomach and a phat ass, I say "goddamn", she asks if I like datass, I tell her I do, she tells me I can clap her phat ass doggy if I tip her 7 more.

Went to see Tara to see how good she may or may not be looking these days based on her losing 22 lbs. I had been 6 months probably since I last saw her. She looks skinnier, but still not the knockout she was when she was younger. Still a great massage and ending. Still has some great teddies that she lets me play with and some FIV action. I have been to Shirlington Therapy and have gotten FS there but I just thought that was the exception and not the norm. I didn't realize there was such a big disparity between NoVA and MD AMPs. I will have to check out MD more often as I live in Old Town just across the bridge. Thank you for your detailed explanation in your other post.FS is the norm at ST and now at "Live" on Columbia Pike. If you go to Arlington Physical center tell them you have been to ST and you an get FS also.

At Maryland AMPs the menu is pretty wide open in my experience. My last few experiences at Maryland AMPs were as follows:
2) Went to Emerald in Camp Springs. I speak a little Korean so I shoot the shit with Mama upon entry. There's also a place called Blue Ocean that supposedly has hot chicks there, but I haven't been there personally.

Yes, YMMV and YPMV are fully in effect pretty much anywhere you go regardless if it's a FS or non-FS AMP. I ventured into MD as I had a craving for some AMP FS and visited Emerald. First time there and my experience was 80% that of Frankie's. That 20% difference is the fact that I don't speak any Korean and I didn't shoot the shit with Mama: D, the tip was a higher 120 (with what seems to be the same provider) and the "massage" was really just ST as we really just went straight into banging 5 minutes after coming back from the TS. Mama even brought out a KPOP idol for me to see next time. LOL.
