On the notion that older, less attractive, or less popular providers often give superior service, I decided to visit one of the local AMPs to test that theory. Upon arriving (about midnight), I told mamasan that I wanted to see this one particular lady, so she obliged and sent the gal in. Lo! Maybe I'm the eternal optimist, but, if there's one thing about our hobby and the AMP scene in particular -- it is very resilient.

Even though DC has been beaten to a pulp for the last several years, the AMPs have survived in one form or another. All we have to do is to help them play it cool.

Around 5:30 PM today (Sat.) there were about 5 police cars -- NO lights flashing -- idling in front of Camelot and the general Jasmine/M. Street/Star Spa area. I spotted a female officer in attendance as well.

Anyone have any idea what happened? And where?

I was a bit spooked so I went elsewhere.

So I asked one of them what was going on and he told me it was just an exercise (practice) situation that nothing was really going on. I asked for more details and he told me they were simulating an incident in the building across the street from our favorite place in the area.

LEO doesn't want to cause undue alarm so usually when they can they will answer such questions.

Do not be afraid to talk to them if you want to know something! If they want to speak to you they will not be shy about it and neither should we.

I am no longer in the DC area - I'm in an area with a pathetic AMP scene. 40-50 year old K girls only offering up HJ's darn near DC prices so I'm saving some money now. =) I found myself in the District this past weekend and took the opportunity to check out the scene again. Its been awhile but I did a bit or research first. Ended up at Star with CoCo. The experience was to be expected. Very typical of what is to be had in DC. If I was closer - I would revisit. I loosened my shirt, took off my shoes, undid my belt and was met by another attractive "therapist". She informed me that we needed to switch rooms, grabbed my shoes and led me down the hall 4 doors. I thought it was odd that I was placed in the original room as it appeared to be a changing room (bras and women's cloths hanging on the wall). Once in the second room the therapist asked me if this was my first time there and I acknowledged it was. It was quiet for a minute and the she told me it was.6 for a one hour massage with a $ tip. After reading the posts I figured that a massage with HR would be a tip of.4, not 1.0. I also learned from previous posts that one should not bring more that they intend to spend so I only brought 1.3 (is that not enough? ). I asked if I could get a simple massage for a tip of.4 and the answer was returned. No, $. I explained that I only brought a.7 tip and she explained the accepted credit cards. I am definitely not using a credit card in this situation so I buttoned and tucked my shirt, tightened my belt and explained it was not going to work out. .6 is the standard door fee (though some places are asking .8).
.4 is the standard HR tip (but not all places are geared to that service).
$ is the standard "all-inclusive" tip.

Depending on the time you went, how busy they were, whether you were a new versus a repeat customer, etc., can all affect how they handle you (no pun intended). It sounds like they may have been busy, given that it took them a while to answer the door. And, the fact that they new you were a newbie probably did not set them at ease. They probably figured that it was best to just quote you the all-inclusive price. Since they're spending an hour with you anyway, $ is better than.4, especially if they're busy and anticipate more customers. Otherwise, a "what you want" question will open the negotiations.

You arrived prepared (i.e., with only what you wanted to spend), which was good. However, you likely arrived at a busy time, when they knoew they could make the higher amounts for the same hour's time.

No offense to Nana, but, everybody is NOT charging .8/hr now. That seems to be what the girls are being told at this particular establishment however. Some there have even been charged .7 for the half and .9 for the whole.

The only places that charge .8/hr in DC (or tried at first) were the place in Adams Morgan, the place that's staffed by much older ladies, and a place that is named after a flower.

If the places offer a better quality experience and consistently provide a full, unrushed hour, more power to them...but, in my experience at the place you're talking about (as well as the places mentioned above), it left a lot to be desired...and the tip (upfront) was much higher as well.

When I saw Nana at DuPont she said the same thing, house fee is .8. I laid my usual $ tip on the table and that was that. Vermont (NOT Downtown any more) charges .8 for an hour.

Many places in Maryland charge .7, and in NOVA it is .8 for an hour.

I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, these rates have not changed in the twenty years I have been hobbying here. Name me other services that have done that. Even $1.2 for a tip is less than in other places, like Dallas or Honolulu.

OTOH, I am told by girls working that business is slow. That has to be an effect of the recession. Not the time to raise prices.

The fluctuation of the dollar against Korean currency plays into how much that tip is worth to many of the providers, too. I do not know what that is, but when the dollar was weak I heard complaints.

Nana definitely ripped me off the first time I saw her, way back when I was new at this. She's not the only one who did or tried to. After I learned the going rates, I just said "no" to these girls, and that was that. Basically they'll take you for what they can get. I don't take that personally.

I'm not surprised the house rates are going up. Not thrilled about it, but as someone else said, they haven't gone up in years and years so it's probably about time. Renting in DC is expensive.

I can agree with that. If the service is not there (and I believe I said that in my post), then reject the provider. With increased rates, the ones that are not providing decent service will drop off. That's the spa's concession for the increased fee. They'll weed those out and make sure the caliber of provider is top notch, or word will get around and their clientele will decrease. They'll soon figure out why and eliminate the problem for you so you don't have to reject her at the door.

I believe it is a completely misguided statement to say that Washington, DC has the best AMP scene in the nation as Mr. Nuke has affirmed. There are many places which are much better. Honolulu comes to mind.

With respect to prices, it comes back to simple economics. Supply and demand. Mongers live on the demand side and providers live on the supply side. Increase supply relative to demand (or decrease demand relative to supply) and the two oppositely sloping curves will intersect at a lower price point. It's that simple. Just as with any other good or service.

The prices of these locations are fine. The average household income in the D.C. area is way above the national average and way above the threshold required to keep these places running. The problem with the scene in D.C. is blatant mismanagement. The simple fact of the matter is the scene is getting too old, too fast. Every year that passes it is harder and harder to find decent therapists below even 35 years old. I feel like people in D.C. don't really fight against this trend but instead adopt a "well, it's good to have an experienced provider" or "older women provide better service" attitude. Why is it spas near Woodbridge or spas near Baltimore can get younger therapists? Why are all the younger therapists in D.C. run off? The more young providers that take off the worse things get as the few that remain get overworked and underpaid relative to their increasing demand.

There isn't even a location where you pay exorbitantly high rates to see young therapists for a TAMP session in this entire city. The closest you come are some escort services that continue to be miscategorized as 'massage parlors' or Vermont (a location that has a ton of old therapists now). That's shockingly sad.

I don't think that's what people are saying. The pricing is the same. Nana is just trying to rip people off. I hit 1333 Conn. Ave./Dupont Therapy for the first time yesterday. Maybe I should have RTFF more closely, but what's with the 4 flights of rickety stairs in that place?

Anyway, I huffed and puffed my way up and was greeted by the mamasan wearing an apron.- she was cooking something in the kitchen at the time.

I liked the layout of the place as it felt like a real apartment apart from the shower room.

I believe it is a completely misguided statement to say that Washington, DC has the best AMP scene in the nation as Mr. Nuke has affirmed. There are many places which are much better. Honolulu comes to mind.

With respect to prices, it comes back to simple economics. Supply and demand. Mongers live on the demand side and providers live on the supply side. Increase supply relative to demand (or decrease demand relative to supply) and the two oppositely sloping curves will intersect at a lower price point. It's that simple. Just as with any other good or service.

So, as an AMP operator, it makes sense to place your assets where they will generate maximum revenue. And, it might also be that the providers themselves work where they do because it's their preference. Again, this is perhaps largely due to rent and housing prices. Younger providers may not be able to afford something closer in, while the older providers may very likely be able to afford to live (and work) in the DC Metro area. Just a couple observations that go beyond a simplistic "right angle" type of reasoning. Hope that helps.

You're absolutely right Lex. Many of them that I know enjoy being able to go back to where they call hone on vacation and walk around the malls shopping etc. without running into someone they know from an AMP. Especially when most of them have a SO, boyfriend, or family they live with.
Believe it or not, I actually have asked an AMP girl, on many occasions, where she lived (as well as where she 'was from'). This was usually in response to her asking the same question of me. In some cases, the girl drove a fair distance (say, from Rockville to work in a Virginia AMP), while in other cases the girl lived close by (relatively speaking). And, in some few cases that I've encountered (your findings are apparently different), the girl was actually living at the AMP. In all cases, though, I never got the impression that any of the girls owned a home or apartment, but instead were renting for longer or shorter periods of time, or possibly even renting a room with some other non-AMP girls who were either aware or unaware of the AMP girl's occupation. There's a lot of options in regard to where an AMP girl lives.

I still maintain that lower rent prices, being generally cheaper in the outer metro regions, explains the preponderence of younger girls at AMPs in those regions. It may not fully explain it, but I'd wager it explains it in part. As for the propensity for AMPs closer in to have older gals, rent again plays a large part in that, IMO. But, the (presumed) reliability of older gals might also be a factor. In any respect, I entirely reject the simplistic notion that AMPs close to DC have older gals simply because we've somehow "given up" demanding "better" and that we've capitulated to some dire plot to foist older women on an area that has one of the highest per capita incomes and, thus, disposable liesure budgets in the country. But, until we conduct a scientific survey and control for various factors, we're just tossing around opinions. But it is, like Lex said, an interesting point of inquiry.

I believe it is a completely misguided statement to say that Washington, DC has the best AMP scene in the nation as Mr. Nuke has affirmed. There are many places which are much better. Honolulu comes to mind.

With respect to prices, it comes back to simple economics. Supply and demand. Mongers live on the demand side and providers live on the supply side. Increase supply relative to demand (or decrease demand relative to supply) and the two oppositely sloping curves will intersect at a lower price point. It's that simple. Just as with any other good or service.

I should have said that we have 'ONE' of the best AMP scenes in the nation. I believe that is a true statement and is what I basically meant. I just don't want us to discount the scene we have here or its potential, which it is not, in my opinion, living up to.

What you seem to be ignoring R::R is that in the vast majority of cases, providers never actually live near the AMP where they work. They actually live in the AMP. There are many reasons for this. For example, many providers don't drive.

If you were to ask them where they "come from", or what they consider to be their home base, they would tell you "Flushing." That is in Queens for those who don't know. As most of you know, providers often don't stay at a particular spa for very long. For a variety of reasons, they move about the country. This would be difficult if they were to set up housekeeping in every city where they landed.

Therefore I think that the reason one particular area has older providers and another has younger ones, has nothing at all to do with rents. It may just be the preference of the ladies for where they wish to work. Interesting question though.

That is true here in DC. However, over the years I have followed many providers in Maryland who have set roots, raised families, and owned homes. The owner of One Spa and at least one of the providers in Jade Shiatsu come to mind. But that is there, and not here.

In DC, there are some providers from Annandale and Crystal City who have worked off and on. But, on the whole, your 'Flushing' point is true here.

Let me explain what the apparent stalking actually is. The woman in the photos and the descriptions is my wife of 2 years. Yes, we are still married and yes she is here now and yes when I met her she was a provider in PA. I myself have owned 3 rest stops in PA. Last month I guess my wife heard the Dupont was up for sale. If you're in the Verizon Center area, that means you're near the Gallery Place Metro. Take the Orange Line toward New Carrolton and get off (!) at the Eastern Market Metro Station. Wander on down to 617 Pennsylvania Avenua SE and go up the flight of stairs to the 2nd floor. That's about the best I can do for you.

Now that someone's done you a favor, be sure to post a report on your experience. (Include details such as provider's name, age, physical description, whether the session was good, bad, or ugly, and any other noteworthy points.) And, next time, don't forget to RTFF.

I found myself on CT Avenue today, walking along until I came upon a Starbuck's. (Yeah, I know, they're rare as hen's teeth.) Anyway, I enjoyed a strong cup of java, then continued my pedestrian activities. Shortly, I came upon Dupont and decided to take a detour inside. I wasn't too hot out, but it felt good to get in with the AC. (Appreciate it while it lasts; once this "global warming" bill that Congress passed goes into effect, air conditioning, as well as prosperity, will be a thing of the past.)

Anyway, I ring the bill and mamasan let's me in. Another customer was about to exit, so she shuffled me off to a side room for a moment and then brought me out and handed me over to Coffee (although I could have asked for any of the available therapists). She's a slightly older (mid-40s?) provider, A-cups, about 5'-3" (tough to gauge exactly when they wear those platform heels), straight longish hair, slender, friendly. I am not sure if it is just me or my mind messing with me, ofcourse everything was covered but over the past 3 days ive been having some small amounts of what looks to be pre-cum coming out. A few tidbits of advice.

1) If fluid/precum never came out before when you squeezed, you need to get that checked out ASAP. If it is something, and if it's treatable, you need to attend to that sooner than later before it beomes untreatable. Worst case scenario you still need to attend to it sooner than later so you have a better chance of managing it.

2) I really do hope you did bag it up. If you went to a local bar and hit on all the girls and asked them all who had herpes or the clap, how many of them do you think would admit to it? Because statistically, a good amount of them would have something. Even the CDC doesn't have accurate numbers as those are only the ones reported. I have several urologist friends and they say that the number of people who have herpes is closer to 3 out of 4, but many never have symptoms.

3) Most of the girls rarely spend their money to buy new outfits. How many do you think really spend $$ to get tested regularly. I would imagine even the free clinics (if they would even go to them) would have a cut off on how many times they'd give them free testing in a year.

4) Every disease has a different incubation period, and that in itself varies based on the immune system of it's host. If she was tested 30 days ago or even yeaterday that probably seems great. Super safe right? WRONG! If she got something like Hep C with up to a 90 day incubation period or even AIDS where it can take 6 months to a year to present in most tests, if she contracted one of those 45 days ago, odds are good that wouldn't show up on her test. Additionally, you have to factor all those she was with after the most recent test. Even if she was tested yesterday, if she was with a new guy before you today, you can kiss the test result accuracy goodbye because all bets are off.

Not trying to be a downer, but that's the reality of it all.

I used to work at GBT at their last locale (and sadly just discovered yesterday they were shut down back in 07). I know many of you didn't seem to like that place due to price and not getting the extras, but I have to say I took great comfort in knowing that at the end of each day, both myself and the client left in the same health as they entered.

Here is a thought, did you ever think your SO gave you something instead of a provider giving you something? If you're screwing around on your SO, there is a distinct possibility she is screwing around on you.

Ok, finally found the time (and cash) to visit the mighty orange. I was there a few years ago and seemed to be able to remember the layout.

Ring, and on in I go. I get a 'look' from mama but I think it's cool. Off to room 3. I get prepped and in walks Lucy. Very cute, maybe mid 30s, assets abound with this girl.

There are cameras everywhere in every establishment I know of. You may not notice them. For example one place has a bunch of books and magazines just in side the door between them is a camera there installed for the protection of the establishment, I don't know anyone who has them in the actual rooms. This is supposed to be a private place for you an your provider! Think about it if they were taking movies of you in the room the only thing LE would have to do is confiscate the media equipment, then everything would go to Hell in a handbasket! I remember for a couple months there was pictures on the main entrance door of two dirtbags that ransacked Downtown just before the collapse.

I'm not aware of any DC AMP with a parking lot. You'll most likely be parking on the street or in a nearby parking garage.

If that's not good enough, almost all the AMPs are near metro stations. Park your car somewhere convenient, then take the metro. Google maps shows the metro lines, and you can also go to www.wmata.com to get explicit directions for using the metro to get where you want.

TheKingFor Orange, get off at the Eastern Market metro station, maybe a 2-3 minute walk from there.

For Star, Farragut West or Farragut North, about two to three block walk.

You could also do Green, McPherson Square, maybe two to three blocks.

I wouldn't worry about the company car bit, there are so many vans, trucks, cars, federal vehicles, etc. downtown that nobody would notice. These places are tucked away so discreetly that you could be parking to do any number of things.

Hell, if I could even FIND parking downton without paying a minimum of $10 bucks I would drive, then there is the traffic. Just not worth it. Just park someplace convenient, and metro downtown.
