Last week, I saw the Japanese movie Shoujyo at the Dole Theaters. The movie was made in 2001, and the director/producer Eiji Okuda plays the lead role. I was a bit surprised that Dole would be screening a movie like this, but I am glad they did. Shoujyo won a number of film festival prizes when it was first released. It is worth watching.

Bill to legalize prostitution looks for more support
The idea may not catch on this session, but a bill to legalize some prostitution in the Islands has the backing of at least 14 lawmakers and many women's rights advocates.
Supporters say they mainly want to start debate of the sensitive topic and explore ways to offer alternatives to decades of selling sex on Honolulu streets. The proposal has the endorsement of 13 co-sponsors in the state House, one sponsor in the Senate and the influential Hawaii Women's Coalition, whose members represent more than 200 organizations.
The prostitution decriminalization bill would permit sexual favors traded in private, and it would designate areas where prostitution is allowed.
"In general, talking about sex is scary for people," said the Rev. Pam Vessels of the United Church of Christ in Kalaupapa on Moloka'i. "We need to talk about it, not get excited about it and throw rocks at each other. Do we really care if consenting adults are engaging in sexual acts for money?"
Although it appears unlikely the bill will get a hearing in either the House or the Senate this session, its advocates hope more lawmakers will support it in time. A resolution may be introduced soon asking the Legislative Reference Bureau to study the proposal.
"It's one of those bills you do it for public dialogue instead of trying to get it passed," said Rep. Bob Herkes, D-5th (Ka'u, S. Kona), one of the bill's co-sponsors. "It helps to find out what the public thinks, and this is the way to do it."
Prostitutes have a hard time getting help if they're hounded by the police in addition to facing the dangers of their profession, said Tracy Ryan, head of the Hawai'i Libertarian Party.
Extensive arrest records make it difficult for them to find legitimate jobs when they want to get out of prostitution, she said.
Laws call for a $500 fine and up to 30 days jail time for soliciting prostitution.
"I've only found a handful of people who think prostitutes should go to prison, even though many people are concerned about prostitution," Ryan said. "By criminalizing them, you're only adding to their problems."
Honolulu police made 339 prostitution arrests in 2005 and 255 in 2004, accounting for less than 1 percent of total arrests, according to annual crime reports. Statistics for 2006 are not available.
Maj. Kevin Lima, commander of the narcotics and vice division, said he opposes the decriminalization bill because it would be more difficult for police to investigate child prostitution if paying for sex between adults were legal.
"There are some unintended consequences of that bill," Lima said. "It's probably not a good idea."
Honolulu has a long history of prostitution dating back to the whaling days, to the red light districts of Chinatown during World War II and streetwalkers in neighborhoods surrounding Waikiki.
Prostitution remains a significant problem today in part because Hawai'i is such a popular tourist destination, Lima said.
These women should be helped out of their situation, but legitimizing them isn't the answer, said Kelly Rosati, a spokeswoman for the Hawai'i Catholic church and executive director for the Hawai'i Family Forum.
"Oftentimes the point at which a woman is arrested is where help begins," Rosati said. "This is exploitation, and the woman deserves to be helped out of this industry."
But others argue that the real issue is that home and business owners don't want prostitutes in their communities, and they don't get much help in jail, said Meda Chesney-Lind, a University of Hawai'i criminologist and author of "The Female Offender."
"Maybe we can start having a conversation about being smart on crime instead of just tough," she said. "We don't criminalize other forms of victimization, so I don't think we should do that for prostitution."

It's interesting that the two most common reasons I always hear for legalizing prostitution, which is to tax them since we can't stop them and to enforce health care standards and checkups on them, weren't specifically mentioned. It seemed like they were basing it more on moral reasons, or the prostitutes' rights. Interesting.
And it was weird to hear about how child prostition laws would become more difficult to enforce. I always thought that legalizing it would also regulate who's okay to be a licensed prostitute. I'm sure the guy knows what he's talking about, but it wasn't that clear to me.

If every working girl is regulated; ie-health check ups, background checks (for age verifications amoung drug or other offenses), and practice permits/licenses after passing; there should be no problem with child prostitution. But we all know, this bill won't make it to a hearing anyhow.

I vaguely recall reading a quote from Maj. Lima in a newspaper articles a while back and thinking that his comment was totally off the wall and sounded clueless. I can't recall the details though. I suspect his comments were knee-jerk reactions to a question and not anything he'd taken the time to think through, though I have no way of knowing.
Also, some of you should note that the bills in question do not make any attempt to "regulate" anything other than where activities can/cannot take place. These bills would "decriminalize" rather than "legalize" prostitution. In other words, the bill simply says it's no longer illegal to engage in prostitution. It doesn't address licensing, health checkups, or anything related. This is actually a good thing for us and the providers because it eliminates a potential means of prohibiting prostitution through the "backdoor" of creating excessive and unnecessary requirements in the guise of "regulating" it. Much like some localities attempting to prevent abortions by requiring clinics to meet standards that even a Level I Trauma Center would have difficulty achieving.
I think this is the most sensible and progressive piece of legislation I've ever seen with regards to prostitution. Unfortunately, even the 14 sponsors don't expect it to pass in this session. They've said they introduced the bill to get people started discussing the situation. A bold move, and I applaud them for it.

Another issue is safety. Being marginalized and looked down upon based on societal "norms" do not help sex workers when seeking help from the law.

Yep, Tendo--I understand your concern about a father's child partaking this as a profession. There are some that do realize that it isn't a destination but a means to their destination. Some just want to take advantage of their youth and zest for sex in order to make a lot of money in a small amount of time, so that she can finish her PhD and law degrees. :) :)

Also try the Japanese bookstore attached to Nippon Video which is across the street from the Don Quijote store near the Ala Moana Shopping Center. It is located near the corner of Kaheka and Kanunu Streets. They have a section with Japanese DVDs. The ones that were made in Japan have the typical mosaic censor of men and women's crotch areas in accordance with Japanese law. Strangely, the a**hole can be legally shown--Go figure. They also have a selection of Japanese adult magazines. Many of them include DVDs inside of them. The magazines will clearly say DVD on them and will be somewhat stiff because of the disc. Obviously, don't bend the magazine or you may damage the disc. The price for these magazines with DVDs is typically around $12.95 and up with a few exceptions.
I just bought a few of these magazines with DVDs recently. I would avoid the ones that have more that 120-150 minutes of video because based on my experience, those tend to have very poor video image quality and are difficult to navigate. Also, some DVDs such as the ones in Cream magazine may be only of cute girls in school uniforms and swimsuits because the models are perhaps only 17 years old--These videos, of course, contain no nudity. Magazines and photobooks such as these are sometimes of Japanese teen pop stars. Other magazines are somewhere between Playboy and more hardcore fare. True, but the disadvantages to a Torrent site, or the practice of torrents is the effort to chase down movies, no previews, and most torrent sites for adult content require registration with credit cards anyway. Was Skate Palace the one in the chinese cultural plaza? I forget what that one was called. But I went there twice a week during the summer. Snack Bar was cheap and food was good. Video games were almost as much fun as skating.

PLRobert's working at SPIII. The club I remember with all the bean action and shower shows was the old Classic Cat on Sheridan Street. On Sunday's you could take your camera in there and take pictures of the girls. They'd have a runner that would take your film to a 1 hour photo and bring them back when done, so you'd have fond memories of the afternoon. WASHINGTON - Viagra and other impotence drugs are about to bear new warnings that users may experience sudden hearing loss.
It’s not clear that the drugs truly trigger hearing loss, but the Food and Drug Administration decided Thursday to add a warning about the possible risk after counting 29 reports of the problem since 1996 among users of this family of medicines.
The impotence drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra will bear the warnings. So will Revatio, a drug for pulmonary hypertension, which contains the same ingredient as Viagra.
Viagra’s label already mentioned hearing loss as a possibility, because a few cases were reported during initial testing of that drug. But given that hearing loss is a risk of advancing age and certain conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, that can lead to impotence, it wasn’t clear if the link was real.
That still isn’t clear, said FDA ear nose and throat specialist Dr. Robert Boucher.
But in poring over FDA’s database of possible drug reactions, what struck him was these 29 reports said the hearing loss occurred within hours to two days of taking one of the drugs.
“We don’t know enough to say that it’s ironclad caused by the drugs, but we see enough to say we can’t ignore it either,” he said.
The reports involve hearing loss in one ear, which in a third of cases was temporary.
FDA urged patients who experience any hearing problems — loss or ringing in the ears — to promptly call their doctors and stop taking the impotence drugs.

However, like some fellow monger stated before; there is some NUT flagging almost every single ad in the W4M, Casual encounters W4M, and even the erotic section. That sucks! People use CL because its free.I check craigslist several times a day to see if there is anything worth trying out on there, and most of the times it isn’t. I agree there is a lot of flagging going on in w4m section, but for the most part the ads being flagged are the scam adds from chicks with cam sites. Also, a lot of fakes who are asking you to contact them via their yahoo chat ID or E-mail address, but they don’t have any other contact info about them, I do flag. They ask you to go to some site for the age verification and than when you do you have to register using your credit card and supposedly that will take you to the page where you can find her contact info. Unfortunately that is bunch of BS. For all I know, some unfortunate soul will try that, register and than either get charged just to find out it was fake. Or even worse, his info will be collected by LE, and it will make him an easy pick. Unless his identity was stolen, there is little about he can do to say it wasn’t him. There are maybe 4 or 5 ads that look like they are true providers and you see them all the time. Any ad without a phone number, regardless if it has a picture or not, I personally will flag them all as spam, but that is only in w4m section of erotic service. It is not hard to spott the fake ad from those that are legit. In other sections I only look but never flag because for the most part it is very hard to tell what’s a true ad and what isn’t so I leave them all alone.

Hopefully, that newspaper will sue and win the case. It doesn't seem right.
If they were blatant prostitution ads, saying "Call this number and a girl will have sex with you." then I'd call it aiding and abetting. But, as we all know, escorts can say they provide the service of innocent dates, and MPs can advertise as legal massages. So, how can the newspapers be held responsible for what the business actually do, when not doing the legal activity that they claim to do? The cops probably think the advertisers "should know" what goes on, but that would be out of place for the advertisers to judge, don't you think? I don't think that arrest will stand up in court. I think the cops were just pissed off that they were told to take a hike at first.
If a newspaper helps advertise for a personal accountant, and I hire the guy who then rips me off and bilks me of all my money, can I have the advertisers arrested for aiding and abetting?
Here in Hawaii, I recall THE PUBLIC complaining about the advertisements in newspapers that were "shady", and there was a voluntary avoidance of such businesses' ads for while. I never heard about what happened after that, but those ads for our favorite places are back in the sports sections. I wonder what happened...

In the last month and a half, I've seen Kelly, Mikki, twice Amy (Nirvana), Cherry, Kim (GQ), and Melanie (VIP). That's (.5 house + $.4 tip) x 7 sessions = $1,330. Yikes!

Ok I didn't know where to put this one but since it covered a bunch of things I wanted to just type it just once. Not quite the cycle but definitely a great week. It was my birthday and figured in the economic stimulus is around the corner (hey what the hell, not like I do this often).

Second, unknown freelancers are often unreliable about keeping an appointment, so I wasn't surprised to read that she cancelled a confirmed appointment after a customer drove to Makaha to meet her. Personally, rather than driving to Makaha to meet an unknown freelancer, I would tell her that I was willing to meet her (in a public place) close to where I was located. Then if she doesn't show, I haven't wasted much time and gasoline. If she can't or won't come to another area, then I wouldn't bother with her. Meeting her away from her own turf can also reduce the chance of trouble.
Just some suggestions. Thanks for the first report, and please keep posting.

Second, I've been rather fascinated with the way postings have been disappearing in the "Erotic" section of CL. One provider I sometimes frequent thought it was a jealous act by other providers, or their pimps. This reasoning was flawed, I tought, since CL requires multiple flaggings from different IP addresses to make a post disappear.
Suddenly, all the posts in the "Rants and Rave" sections started to disappear too. Not just the ones that are racially charged, but everything.
I was able to read a post (before it was flagged and disappeared) that there is software that allows you to "virtually" change your IP address. The software is marketed to allow you to spam on CL, but instead some individual(s) are using it to flag posts. They will flag a post they deem offensive, change their IP address, then flag again. They will repeat this multiple times until the posts are gone.
Seems silly to try and sit in front of the computer the whole day, but I guess someone has nothing better to do. I checked other CL cities, both large and small, and none seem to have this problem. There was speculation that the Westboro Christian Church was responsible, since they held protests in Hawaii last week. Perhaps.
Anyway, just sharing some "General" information with you all.

(Here's an interesting example of an actual Craigslist police sting operation in Portland, Oregon, as reported in the Oregonian newspaper on June 19. Ironically, a police sergeant was among those people arrested in the sting operation.)
The team of Portland police officers had it all on tape. The man phoned "Haley, the sorority girl," and said he saw her ad on Craigslist.
He said he was looking "for an hour's worth of some fun," and the two agreed he'd pay $150. He had just one special request: Wear black panties.
Shortly after that conversation, the man became one of a dozen people caught during the Portland Police Bureau's second-ever Craigslist sting. Seconds after he showed up at the downtown Hilton hotel room last December, two police officers arrested him for soliciting prostitution. He was interrogated by a detective. His car was towed. And worse yet -- word soon leaked out who he was: Sherwood police Sgt. Dan Jacober, a 16-year veteran of the force.
The Sherwood Police Department put him on paid administrative leave. Within a few weeks, Jacober resigned and hired an attorney to fight the charge.
Wednesday's 2 1/2-hour trial offered a glimpse into the seedy world of prostitution and how police fight it with tactics that Jacober, a sergeant in a quiet community of 16,000, apparently wasn't familiar with.
Most prostitution stings are conducted on the street, not the Internet. So far this year, the bureau has charged 120 people with prostitution. And that doesn't include scores of others arrested for prostitution-related crimes, said Brian Schmautz, Portland police spokesman.
Hilton security had asked police to conduct the crackdown after employees had encountered an unsettling number of people showing up at the hotel with room numbers but no names of guests.
Police had posted an ad on Craigslist on Dec. 6, describing a "sorority girl in town for one night" who was "not afraid to try anything." A clothed photo of the twentysomething, slender officer with long blond hair -- her face obscured -- invited viewers to call about her "holiday specials." Although more subdued than many other postings on the site, the ad was provocative enough that Craigslist kept pulling it down moments after police would put it up.
Nonetheless, police said Jacober spotted the posting and called "Haley" -- in reality, Officer Meghan Burkeen -- to inquire about her specials.
Then Jacober asked her whether that was a recent photo on the site. Burkeen said it was taken that day.
"Oh, wow," Jacober said, adding that he would meet her at the Hilton in an hour.
Once at the hotel room, a body wire on Burkeen caught their brief conversation about what he wanted and whether he had the money. Jacober said he needed to go to the ATM and would be back. After he left the room, police arrested him.
Detective Kevin Warren testified that Jacober admitted that he'd arrived at the Hilton to exchange sex for money, and that he'd been going through a rough time in his life. He said his wife had medical problems and was in the hospital.
The prosecution rested.
Jacober -- a balding and stocky figure who sat slouched, elbow on the table, palm of his hand on his cheek -- didn't testify. Defense attorney David Lesh argued that prosecutors charged his client in the wrong county. Jacober was at home in Clackamas County, not Multnomah County, when he negotiated the sex-for-money deal over the phone, the attorney argued.
Although Judge Frank Bearden said that was an interesting argument, he denied the motion, saying there was enough evidence that Jacober had reaffirmed the deal while in the hotel room. And then there was Jacober's confession to the detective, the judge said.
Lesh then argued that his client changed his mind when he got to the hotel room. Although Jacober had $176 on him -- a fact confirmed by police -- he left, saying that he needed to get cash.
"Obviously, he didn't intend to go through with it," Lesh said.
Deputy District Attorney Benjamin O'Glasser, on the other hand, argued that he didn't need to speculate about why Jacober left the room. All the law required prosecutors to prove, he said, was that Jacober had made a deal for sex.
The judge agreed, then found Jacober guilty of misdemeanor prostitution.
Lesh asked for a lenient sentence, saying his client has been punished extensively already. He lost his job, he will never work in law enforcement again, and he suffered public humiliation, Lesh said. Lesh also added that his client has paid a price higher than anyone he can think of, with the exception of former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.
The judge sentenced Jacober to a $500 fine.
"I'm just ready to move on," Jacober told the judge, before leaving the room and declining to comment further.

You say that you're visiting Honolulu for only one week, are a first-time visitor, and don't want to be with streetwalkers, so in my opinion your best "bang for the buck" value would probably be relaxation places. Although you might sometimes be successful in "bars" and "strip clubs," you would most likely end up spending more money for less action. I've never seen any posts about "swinger clubs" in Honolulu on the two forums of which I'm a member, so if they do exist they seem to keep a low profile. Regarding "freebies," if you're relatively young, handsome and charming then go for it, but otherwise you would likely find more immediate and almost guaranteed action in relaxation places.

ThanksYou haven't said that you are really looking for. Are you looking for a place to just look at girls? The strip clubs are nice to see naked girls but you won't get much further. There is minimal contact at the strip clubs. Unlike las vegas and san fran, lap dances in hawaii if any, are non contact, no touching and basically not much more than table dances. Any hints or offers is a total crapshoot and more than likely just a hustle to get you to spend money on a girl.
Same thing in the korean bars. Nice looking girls but you will be shelling out dough with no guarantee of any satisfaction. IMHO if you are looking for some "hands on" action, I would skip the korean bars unless you just want to relax with a beer and watch hot girls working, or want the girls to just sit with you (and you shelling out $20 a pop drinks for the girl).
The massage parlors and relaxation places would be your best bet if you want some (pretty much guaranteed) satisfaction. Read the threads to see which one you might be interested in, not all mp's are good and worth a visit.
As for freebies, if you are young you can try your luck at the younger clubs to try to hook up with a girl. If you are older then maybe the older clubs or trying to find someone in waikiki but there is no guarantee unless you just like the hunt.
