Madison-I stopped in there some years ago when it was called TSC and was located in Madison. It's a sad truth that Nashville cops have nothing better to do than to troll Craigslist looking to bust people rather than fighting the crime that really has an effect on the population.

It is said to be the world’s oldest profession. But here in Nashville, it has only recently gone digital.

Sex for sale is hardly new. But the sale of sex through the well-known national classifieds website craigslist.org is fairly new to Nashville, according to those whose job it is to crack down on such illegal activity.

And for the past eight months, the Metro Police Department’s Vice Squad has been quietly engaging in an operation to snuff out on-line prostitution, and craigslist has been its primary target.

Unlike in years past where vice detectives fanned out to roam seedy streets, hit shady strip clubs and comb though the telephone directory looking for prostitutes, Metro’s vice squad has set its targets almost exclusively on Nashville’s own craigslist page.

Police say they have done so because craigslist has quickly become the primary way prostitutes and their clients find one another in the Music City.

It’s like the whole escort service industry jumped off the Yellow Pages and onto craigslist,” said Detective Joe Ladnier, one of four vice detectives working out of Metro’s Specialized Investigation Division.

Craigslist was born in 1995 in San Francisco as a web page listing local community events. It quickly became one of the Internet’s most widely utilized mediums for advertising housing, jobs, items for sale and other services.

Officially, craigslist came to Nashville in February 2004 when the Music City became the 35th city internationally to obtain its own page, nashville.craigslist.org

But it was not until June of last year when the police department first realized the site was the new home for Nashville’s prostitution market.

"It was pretty overwhelming when we first took a look at it," Ladnier said.
According to the Vice Squad, as many as 100 new postings appear every day in the “erotic services” section of nashville.craigslist.org.

And every single ad cops have followed up on has led to a prostitution arrest.

Lt. Mitch Fuhrer of the Specialized Investigation Division said four detectives have made between 30 and 40 such arrests in eight months, which also constitutes a tremendous increase over years past when prostitution in Nashville was both traded and tracked via other means.

Now police believe as much as 90 percent of the local sex industry uses craigslist as its primary means of advertising, having all but abandoned the phone book and preferring craigslist far above other Internet sites.

While that has made Nashville’s prostitutes easier to track, the near-elimination of pimps and escort services has also led to more and more women turning to prostitution, police said.

And vice detectives say the characteristics of the women – and men – offering sex in exchange for money on craigslist has surprised even them.

"We’ve found a few moms," Fuhrer said. "One mother was working out of her home and using her daughter’s computer. She said she needed money."

Police say they treat the women they arrest for prostitution off of craigslist like any other prostitute they encounter.

“We warn them to take their ad down, and we warn them to get out of the prostitution business," Ladnier said. "Most we’ll never hear from again, but we have made some repeat arrests."

Despite the plethora of advertisements under "erotic service" appearing every day, Nashville police say they are actually ahead of the curve compared to larger cities when it comes to policing on-line prostitution.

"It’s not just the kids, it’s the bad guys, too, who are Internet savvy now," Fuhrer said. "So we’ve become Internet savvy."

Susan MacTavish Best, a spokeswoman for the Web site – which now hosts more than 25 million user posts each month – said craigslist still remains a user-moderated site.

"The ‘erotic services’ category is for legal escort services and sensual massage providers," Best wrote in an e-mail. "It was added at the request of our users who wanted these ads separated from our general ‘personals’ categories."

Furthermore, the "terms of use," which all posters to craigslist must agree to, explains that no posting can contain pornography, nor can it advertise "any illegal service or the sale of any items the sale of which is prohibited or restricted by any applicable law."

That, though, has not hindered Nashville’s prostitutes, police said.

"A hourly rate for a professional, licensed massage therapist is somewhere in the neighborhood of $60 an hour," Ladnier said. "These listings are for $200 an hour. When we see that we know it’s prostitution."

Lt. Fuhrer said the deduction is often simpler than that.

"You know what you’re getting when you see some of these ads," Fuhrer said. "Some of them are pretty descriptive and pretty explicit."

A report in the City Paper on Fri. said it was a sting with undercover officers posing as SW. Location was North First St. near Oldham St. in East Nash. It was on the 14th, Valentine's Day.

The old, wise (with no arrest record) hobbyist/monger always says "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is". Man I am glad this place exist. I did not go to the "fashion show" after reading the info here and reading her follow-up e-mail today. It just sounded like a bunch of crap (exactly what was posted here--model clothing and jewlery and listen to a sales pitch)and 3 other guys (if they showed) probably got ripped off. She was very detailed about the sales side of things and very vague about the other stuff just saying every one will have "fun".

On the much brighter side, I dreamed that I saw Melanie from CL last night and had a rare great experience.

There has been some good action on MBR this week. THere is this slim brunette WSW that isn't bad at all. Has long hair that is usually up. I can't get her to give me the time of day though. Either I have really bad timing or she just tries to avoid me. I saw a total of 4 WSW's of verying quality Tuesday, but was trying to get the slim brunettes attention to no avail.

Realizing the futility of her efforts she excused herself to go and use the facilities. While she was gone I relocated all my belongings to an area that would be impossible for her to access. When she returned she commented that it was wise for me to have moved my things as they were getting in the way. Her next tact was to try and get us to change locations i.e. head to another room. There was no way I would let that happen, so I advised her that I was comfortable where I was, knowing that she just wanted to steal whatever I might have in my pockets.

After a few more moments she asked if I heard a noise. Of course there was no noise at all. She rain up the stairs and came down with a baby in her hands that was obviously just woken up. She fained her disappointment and said she would get the baby back to sleep. Once upstairs, the baby began crying very loudly, she came back down and the baby had a welt on its leg where she must have pinched it to get it to scream. I immediately left, having accomplised nothing but the protection of my property (none really with me as I left it all behind before entering her property).

Here's some successful (and not) shopping trips I had this weekend. Seems the activity has increased a bit.

Came across Butterfly (HSW) but after talking to ther for 30 seconds declined. Don't know what her problem is but my guess is she was all cracked up and flying high.

He proceeds to tell me that 'this is his place and his name is on the lease so what can I do for you?' I say to him you can tell Sherry she can give me my money back. He says he ain't got nothing to do with that (Yeah Right!). I really wanted to whoop some body's a** but the trouble wasn't worth it. So I just left. I really wasn't mad over the money (.30) but just the fact that she played me. Like I said we had seen each other numerous times before and then she pulled that s**t. I saw her about a month or two after that. I stop and she comes over probably not knowing it was me until she got close enough to see (different car). She proceeds to tell me that the tall white dude was her boyfriend and he would kick her a** and make her do that stuff. She then shows me bruises on her arms and legs and tells me that he is locked up now. I look at her and say whatever and tell her that she owes me. Do you think she got in the car and settled the debt? Hell NO! She just says OK and walks away on her stroll.

Just goes to show no matter how much you think you may know them, how cool they may seem, or how many times you have seen them they are still hoes. So always remember never go to a place with more than you are willing to lose and don't let the money leave until the job is done.

I know a lot of you on here wouldn't even go into that place just on the looks and surroundings. So I guess you don't have to worry about her or any of them until they come out onto DP. If you do come across any of them and they try and get you to take them back to their place behind the AA decline and take them to a place you know or give them the boot.

Nashville really sucks. There may be a street thing but that's not my thing and I would think it even more risky if you're not a local and have a good feel for the area.

There are no AMPs or studios anymore. Escorts are of extreme low quality and/or want $$$ for a session. Many want "references", your work #, DL number and/or other information which is really stupid to give out.

If you're willing to drive about 1.5 or so hours south you can go to Huntsville. They have some studios and at least one club that you "may" get lucky in. Read that board for more information.

Don't know about the Louisville scene but I'd think it couldn't be much worse than Nashville.

Careful of ladies sitting by the hotels, very high probability of a sting going down. Especially when you see a couple of LE cars a few blocks away. LEO now has a sweet looking little van (used to be a motorhome) with a raised roof they record the activities out of now.


I had the chance to visit Nashville last night. I got no answer when I phoned a girl I had met some time ago. So I cruised Mboro and a bit hoping she would get home. Between 1130 and 12:30, things were slow and almost no LE. I saw one sitting in front of a motel who gave me the look when I passed, but she did not get up. Saw a fairly nice looking gal who probally was available, but she was walking with a guy. Around 1am I saw a short cute & young blond walking around Briley exchange. I turned around and pulled into a lot to wait for her, but noticed 2 LE cars parked acrossed street at a store. These CL ladies are crazy. And it is a constant battle between them to see who can SPAM each others posting.
