I have been trying out different LMPs in LA/East LA area hoping to become a regular with a good provider. My source is either El Aviso or El Classificado.

The Amatuer Radio license is based on an exam given by the FCC. There are varying classes of license. You sit and take a 40 or so question exam and if you get a good score you get a license.
It does require studying and a little technical knowledge. but you don't need one to LISTEN to LE. Just get a scanner and a book of frequencies.
You can also identify agencies (and a lot more) by looking at the website run by freqofnature. Don't want to post a live link here but you can figure it out.

Sounds like you'll be in town for more than just several nights. If so, and if you don't need a lot of service and just want a clean comfortable decent room and to be left alone to do your thing, you might consider one of the many LA area locations in this chain: http://www.extendedstayhotels.com/ Los Angeles can be absurdly expensive for what you get compared to most cities, and I find these places cost effective. They are set up for long staying business travellers in commercial areas, though they also will provide night to night accomodations, they are fully equipped studios with kitchenettes, and you have direct access to your own front door so you can discretely escort your temporary girlfriends to your bed without passing nosy hotel desk clerks.
If the company is not picking up the tab for you, or if you're getting reimbursed on a flat per diem rate, Hotwire is pretty good for LA. Anything listed by them as '3-star' or above is always reasonably comfortable in my experience. I'd be careful about booking any hotel in the area of downtown LA becuase many of those hotels don't provide free on-site self parking, and using a pay to park or valet service downtown can end up costing you more than a hooker. The area around the airport is a better deal for the same class of hotel if you are paying out of pocket, but I'd avoid the more economical '2-star' class accomodations there, becuase some chains that are usually perfectly decent everywhere else in the country are filthy and damn scary places to try to sleep down there. There is a great deal more — very explicit and very detailed — about Angelica and what she does in her profile on The Erotic Review, the largest of the escort-rating Web sites. In its aim and practice, it essentially is a consumer guide for prostitutes and johns.
“I know from an escort’s point of view the review boards really, really help a lot, because everyone always asks, ‘Well, do you have reviews?’” said Billie, an escort in a Midwestern state whose name, like those of all other escorts cited in this report, has been changed. “If they’re bad, that’s not good, but when they’re good ones, it really helps an escort get established when she’s just starting out.”
Not all escorts sell sex. Some sell sensual massages or even actual, non-sexual dinner companionship. But law enforcement officials estimate that 90 percent to 95 percent of the escorts listed on the Web sites are selling sex. And there is very little the police can do about it, even when it is openly discussed on sites like The Erotic Review.

Pursuing ‘the hobby’
Many men make a lifestyle out of patronizing escorts. They call it “the hobby,” not prostitution, and they are “hobbyists,” not johns. They consider themselves connoisseurs of fine women, and they are eager to learn from their fellow hobbyists who will provide exactly what they want.
What they want is generally very clear: They want a centerfold model who will hang adoringly on their every word in public, then perform any sex act in any position with professional skill in private. The combination — a romantic dinner date followed by uninhibited sex — is called the “girlfriend experience,” or GFE. Of Angelica, a reviewer wrote, “The term GFE should be based on what she is.”
How this story was reported
The names of all escorts in this report have been changed, and their locations have been withheld. An MSNBC.com reporter wrote or called them through the contact information provided in their reviews on The Erotic Review, for which he registered using his real name and his MSNBC.com address. He immediately identified himself as a reporter and explained the nature of the articles to every woman who was approached for an interview.
Before review sites came along, hobbyists had no way to protect themselves, said David R. Elms, president of The Erotic Review, which began in 1999 and claims that it gets 350,000 unique visitors a day.
“I’m a hobbyist, and I was getting ripped off,” Elms said. “There was no way to hold people accountable for their actions.
“There had to be a way to get this information out,” he said. “If a guy got ripped off or he received good service, then he could tell somebody. We treat it as something equivalent to going out on a hot date and telling a hundred thousand of your closest friends.”
Officially, review sites insist that it is just the hot date that men are paying for — in other words, companionship and conversation, not sex. Whatever happens beyond that “is purely a matter of personal choice and personal preference between two or more consenting adults,” says a disclaimer on Big Doggie, another nationwide escort review site. The Erotic Review goes further: “You can give it away for free, but you can’t sell it.”
But interviews with working escorts across the country and with review-site operators, activists for prostitutes’ rights and law enforcement officials bear out what is evident in the reviews themselves: Sex is the “it” being sold.
“‘Escorts’ — right,” said Master Sgt. Bruce C. Woodbury, head of the Vice/Morals Unit of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa, Fla., which mounted an ultimately unsuccessful sting operation against Big Doggie in 2002. “Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.”
For escorts, a complicated relationship
Professional escorts have a love-hate relationship with The Erotic Review and Big Doggie, where, for a monthly or quarterly fee, men can find out exactly what a woman’s customers think of her.
The sites represent the ultimate commodification of women, who are impersonally rated by anonymous men in much the same way they would judge a sports car or a racehorse. Some find it demeaning, but most acknowledge that it’s a fast, easy way to build a reliable client base.
“It’s a double-edged sword,” said Helen, a $350-an-hour escort in a Western state, who said she was in the business to make enough money to go to graduate school so she could teach.

“Yes, it does give you exposure that you may not otherwise get,” she said. But at the same time, an escort can find her livelihood held hostage to the whims of a customer who doesn’t get exactly what he wants, at the price he wants to pay.
“This lady spoke to a client she considered a friend, and she was apparently very upset because the guy had threatened to post a bad review,” Helen said. “I’ve personally never had it happen, but I know it has happened.”
The sites serve another purpose, too: They make prostitution a little safer, because women can challenge unfair or inaccurate reviews in forums on the sites and they can lodge complaints with site administrators.
Much more than streetwalkers or prostitutes who are controlled by pimps, a professional escort has a significant element of control, because she can screen potential clients, who already know how pricey her services are — top-dollar escorts in New York have been known to command $2,000 an hour.
That control is elevated when a client comes to her through a review site. Reviewers earn credibility by the accuracy of their reviews, so over time, an escort can essentially rate the men who are rating her.
Robyn Few, a former prostitute who lobbies to decriminalize prostitution as executive director of the Sex Workers Outreach Project in San Francisco, said that on a personal level, “I hate it” that women are “being reviewed and rated like some subhuman.”
But she added: “The Erotic Review and Big Doggie took some of the danger out of it. When providers have a bad client, they write about it. ... It’s one way to out the bad guys.”
Billie, who said she got at least 90 percent of her business through The Erotic Review and a similar local review site, said: “I haven’t had a bad experience at all. The people that I have seen, or whatever, they have all been professionals — really upper-class people.”
Cleaning up prostitution
If nothing else, Few and many escorts say, the success of The Erotic Review and Big Doggie demonstrate that prostitution can be a respectable business. For the first time, the women are not victims, they say — they are not walking the streets, and they are relatively protected, and they run their own business affairs.
Now it is the customer who must solicit the prostitute, not the other way around, as it has always been through history. From the safety and relative anonymity of their living rooms, highly rated independent escorts like Billie and Helen can pick and choose from hundreds of potential clients.
“I pretty much have regular clients now,” said Billie, whose ratings are consistently 8 to 10 (out of 10) for both appearance and “performance.” These are men whom she has screened and whom she trusts, and she thinks that’s why “I’ve never been cheated or anything.”
In the future, the balance of power will shift more and more to women who approach prostitution as a profession and can take advantage of advances in technology, said Few, the sex workers advocate.
“We are not going to stop prostitution. We are not going to stop it,” she said. “It is not going to be abolished. It is not going away. And the Internet has connected us around the world.”
Said Helen, the escort from the West: “Technology increases exponentially. So who knows what’s going to be out there in 10 years?”

The last time I was there, I stayed one night. Needless to say, I didn't spend much of the night in my hotel. I was in the Palace FKK until 4 am, then took public transport to the airport after two hours sleep. I had three of the most beautiful women in the world in just a few hours. If I were really penny pinching, I would not have paid for the hotel. I would have just stored my baggage at the central railway station, taken the public transport to the FFK, spent the night just having a ball, and picked up my luggage on the way back to the airport the next morning. I would have had dinner at the FKK, since it's free, so saved on food costs.
If you want to stay in a hotel, it's not expensive at the Ibis Hotel's. They are like the Motel 6 of the US, only better. The cost is in the range of $60 to $70 per night. On Saturday night between 11:30pm and 1am Figueroa looked like the old hottie SW curbside shopping mall. Investigators should take precautions in response to the growth of caller identification services.
Mr. Williams serves with the Electronic Surveillance Unit, Office of Investigations, at the U.S. Customs Service headquarters in Woodbridge, Virginia.
The telephone has become such a staple of modern life that few people give it a second thought. When callers pick up the receiver, it is doubtful they consider the millions of signals being routed through switching stations that their call is about to join. They just know that when they want to check in with a family member across town or a business associate across an ocean, they only need to pick up the telephone. Even when power goes out in a community, the telephones generally continue to work. So, it might be easy to take this workhorse of the information age for granted.
However, advances in telephone service options--most notably caller identification services--require that law enforcement agencies take a close look at how they use the telephone. The growing prevalence of caller identification services (generally referred to as caller ID) dictates that investigators take special precautions, especially during undercover operations.
Caller ID: Help or Hindrance
As its name implies, the caller ID device displays the originating telephone number of an incoming call, allowing the recipient to know, before answering the call, the number of the party calling.
For law enforcement, caller ID has proven to be a valuable intelligence tool. When investigators install a court-authorized wiretap or dialed number recorder on a telephone line, for instance, they also generally request caller ID. With caller ID on the line, investigators not only know whom the targeted subject calls but also who calls the subject.
Investigators also can include a suspect's caller ID device on a search warrant request. A properly worded search warrant allows investigators to seize the caller ID box and thus obtain an accurate record of the last 25 to 100 calls received by the subject.
Nevertheless, despite its benefits, caller ID poses some potentially serious problems for the police. Critics claim that it invades citizens' privacy. There are also concerns that caller ID may reduce the number of calls to police crime tip lines, crisis centers, and suicide and abuse hotlines. For law enforcement agencies, concerns primarily revolve around the effects caller ID and related services have on undercover operations. By understanding the functions of these services, however, investigators can develop strategies to maintain telephone security during investigations.
THE MECHANICS OF CALLER ID
Caller ID comes in two forms. Basic caller ID (sometimes referred to as single message) represents the first generation of caller identification services, widely available since the early 1980s. During the last several years, telephone companies have been converting to enhanced caller ID (also known as deluxe or multimessage).
The primary difference between the two systems is the amount of information provided about the originating telephone call. While basic service provides only the caller's telephone number and the date and time of the call, enhanced service supplies this information, as well as the name and in some cases, the address of the caller.
Regardless of which form of caller ID serves a particular locality, the mechanics of its operation remain the same. The local telephone company attaches caller ID at its central office after the originating call has been placed. This makes it nearly impossible for the caller to trick or defeat the system.
Once the caller ID codes have been attached, the caller's identifying information is routed on the line with the call itself to the destination telephone. Caller ID information reaches the receiving telephone between the first and second rings. If a call is answered before or during caller ID delivery, the answering party will not receive the data.
CALL BLOCKING
If a caller has installed call blocking--an optional service to prevent transmission of the originating telephone number and other identifying information--this request is attached at the central telephone office after the commands for caller ID have been attached. When the call reaches the central office for the area serving the destination telephone, the office handles caller ID according to local programming. If the party at the destination telephone has paid for caller ID services, identifying information from the originating call will be sent.
If a call blocking command has been attached by the party making the call, the call will go through but the identifying information will not be relayed. Instead, a message indicating that all identifying information has been blocked will accompany the call. Generally, the word "private" or some variation appears on the caller ID screen, notifying the recipient that the caller has concealed the originating telephone number.
AVAILABILITY
Newly relaxed regulations and advances in technology soon will make caller ID and related services available on a much larger scale. Until recently, regional telephone companies dictated local service availability. Often, parties with caller ID would receive an "out of area" message, indicating that an incoming call was being placed from a locality that did not relay caller identification information.
In December 1995, the Federal Communications Commission allowed caller ID services to be relayed nationwide. As telephone companies gradually expand service availability, caller ID will become a truly national system. Already, there are indications that caller ID will be offered on a worldwide basis in the not-too-distant future.
Rapidly advancing technology also has enabled carriers to offer caller ID services on calls originating from sources that were once immune, including cellular and pay telephones. As with calls from localities that do not pass caller ID, calls from these types of telephones previously would relay an "out of area" message. Now, calls placed from cellular or pay telephones, as well as long-distance calls paid for via credit or phone cards, may provide identifying information to the party being called.
In fact, some firms that specialize in emerging technologies heavily promote their caller identification capabilities. The newest competition to cellular service, personal communications systems (PCS), pass identifying information in both directions. A screen on the handset lets users know the originating telephone number of the party calling them. Likewise, callers using PCS will pass on their identifying information to anyone with a PCS unit or caller ID. PCS users do not need to activate caller ID service separately; the caller identification features are included in the basic service contract.
With expanding caller identification services, law enforcement agencies should study the various methods available to respond to the threats posed to undercover investigations. Because no single antidote exists for every situation, investigators should be aware of the broad range of possible countermeasures to caller ID.
COUNTERMEASURES TO CALLER ID
Given the dramatic growth of caller ID and the impracticality of determining whether an individual has this service option before a call is placed, investigators should assume every subject can identify them when they call. Although caller ID cannot be defeated after a call is placed, investigators can minimize its effects.
Call Blocking
While placing call blocking on the originating telephone line may be the most obvious countermeasure, certain features of this service make it less than practical for undercover operations. As discussed, a message will alert the party on the receiving end that the caller has placed a block on the outgoing line. Such a signal could further inflame the suspicions of an already wary subject.
Then, because call block commands are attached to a call after the caller ID commands, investigators must gamble that the commands--sometimes routed by two different telephone companies--are attached properly. If not, a call from the police station could be routed unblocked to a subject. While such mishaps are extremely rare, just one could prove disastrous. In response to widespread concerns about privacy issues surrounding caller ID, telephone companies have developed more specialized call blocking features. Per-call blocking defeats delivery of caller ID on a call-by-call basis; per-line blocking defeats caller ID on a specific outgoing telephone line.
In most areas where these features have been introduced, however, the local telephone carrier also offers service options to counter call blocking. The anonymous call rejection feature automatically routes calls with call blocking to a recording that advises callers to dial again without blocking caller ID.
Some state and local governments have arranged with telephone companies to provide call blocking features only for government lines. Still, whether in a general form or on a per-call or per-line basis, call blocking might not provide the stealth necessary for undercover operations. If, however, a law enforcement agency decides to use call blocking in any of its forms, investigators must be careful to ensure that it is attached properly. In some areas, telephone companies use the same code to block caller ID as they do to cancel the block. This can become an especially confusing issue with per-line blocking. When investigators enter the blocking code on a particular line, the end result actually may be to reactivate caller ID on a line where it previously had been blocked. To avoid such scenarios, investigators should not rely on call blocking.
Credit or Phone Cards
While placing calls using a credit or phone card has, in the past, been a fairly safe way to defeat caller ID, investigators cannot assume that these tactics will continue to work every time. An increasing number of telephone companies have begun to relay some type of identifying information via calls placed with credit and phone cards. Telephone companies also may periodically test new features, intermittently relaying identifying information on a limited number of calls before fully engaging a system.
It is increasingly dangerous for investigators to assume that a credit or phone card call will not betray their identities to parties with caller ID. Recent reports indicate that some calls routed by a particular carrier would display "U.S. Government" when placed with a government credit card. Revelations of this type pose obvious dangers both to investigations and investigators.
Pay Telephones
Investigators should remember the limitations of using pay telephones to defeat caller ID. Today, most pay phones relay caller ID information. Industrious subjects can use databases (available to the public) that show the location of each pay phone in a given city to pinpoint a caller's location. One investigator described a case where he called a subject from a pay telephone. While they were still talking, the subject tracked the investigator's position and went to the phone booth shortly after the call.
Investigators should be aware that although a call placed from a pay telephone will not show the caller's name and address, it may show the caller's location. A call placed from a phone booth outside the police station or federal building may be just as disruptive to a case as a call placed from the office telephone.
Undercover Lines
Agencies can use telephone lines dedicated solely to undercover operations. However, regardless of what name is on file, the telephone company will maintain a record of the physical location of the telephone. To enhance security, agency administrators should work with telephone company officials to ensure that the billing address does not reflect a law enforcement connection. The computer containing the wiring information still will connect to the actual location of the telephone, no matter where the bill is sent.
Call Diverters
A device called a call diverter represents one of the more effective countermeasures to caller ID. These devices forward outgoing calls from one telephone line to another, effectively masking the identity of the original caller. By enabling agencies to forward calls at the source, these devices offer more security than call forwarding and other services available from the telephone company.
Units cost between $400 and $5,000, depending on the features included, but may prove well worth the investment for agencies that engage regularly in undercover operations. Investigators should be able to obtain detailed information about call diverters from their agency's electronic surveillance support unit.
Testing Caller ID Availability
Regardless of what technical countermeasure investigators employ to defeat caller ID, they should periodically make test calls from the telephone they normally use for undercover operations to monitor how caller ID is being handled in a particular area. By calling a telephone equipped with caller ID, investigators can determine what type of identifying information is being relayed via the telephone lines. Calling the local telephone company is not a good indicator; customer service representatives do not always know what specific information is relayed at any given time because, among other reasons, technicians frequently activate new features for testing purposes. However, even conducting regular tests does not ensure security because a subject may have different caller ID capabilities than the investigator's test line.
AUTOMATIC NUMBER IDENTIFICATION
Like much of the general population, many investigators might be unfamiliar with automatic number identification (ANI). Intended for use primarily by businesses, ANI provides subscribers with a wealth of identifying information concerning callers. As is the case with caller ID, this service option poses potential security problems for investigators.
Despite its obscurity, ANI actually predates caller ID. The systems serve similar purposes, but unlike caller ID, ANI coding is sent on a separate wire, rather than with the call itself. ANI is available only on numbers beginning with either 800, 888, 900, or 911 or a 976 exchange. Businesses routinely use ANI to gather information on their callers for billing purposes. There is no way to block ANI delivery.
In the wrong hands, ANI can provide criminals with personal information about anyone placing a call to them. During a recent case, a law enforcement officer used an 800 number to access a sub-ject's personal pager. The officer punched in a telephone number different from the one he was calling from for the subject to call. But, because the subject's pager service tracked ANI data and forwarded it to subscribers, the subject was able to tell the officer the number of the telephone from which he originally called.
Because telephone companies do not offer services to counteract ANI, law enforcement agencies must rely on alternate methods to safeguard security. While call diverters represent the most effective countermeasure against ANI, given their cost and impracticality for use during many fast-paced investigative scenarios, investigators cannot rely on them to ensure security for every situation.
CONCLUSION
While it might be easy to take the telephone for granted, law enforcement agencies cannot afford to become complacent about telephone security. Evolving caller ID services represent a potentially serious threat to undercover operations for law enforcement agencies in an increasing number of communities around the country.
By developing a flexible array of countermeasures, agencies can minimize the dangers posed by caller ID. Investigators must remember that no countermeasure can be guaranteed effective for every situation. Instead, they should take precautions and be prepared for any problem that might arise from breaches of security due to caller ID. After all, the security of law enforcement operations is on the line.

Further proof that if they really wanted to get rid of us they'd leagalize it. I think service varies greatly by culture. I had my first real escort in Barcelona where prostitution is handled very much like in Mexico. Out in the open, ect. I am from Europe and have my fair share of 'legal sex' over there. There are tourist traps all over Europe. Another very good example is Hamburg (lived there for four years). Well the police are flat out lying. Few children use Sepulveda to walk to school and there are no schools at all on Sepulveda in the Van Nuys area(there are in North Hills, a few miles up). And anyway, the few hookers that hang out on Sepulveda before 10am are very innoucuous and nearly impossible to spot, even for seasoned mongers. Later in the after noon is a different story, but I would guess that walking by Thirstys or by the gangmembers and drug dealers closer to Sepulveda/Vanowen makes a far greater impression on children than some random woman stepping into a car.

I don't think that any of them are making big $$$ in an hour. Most of the places pay the girls $14-15 per hour. The rest of their income is totally dependent on tips.

I supose you can find a bus that goes down Spedulvda then you can stop at Century to get to some of the AMP's.
In reality Los Angeles does not have a working public transportation system. The buses when they do run are never on time, sometimes they do not show up at all. You do not want to be in these area's dependent on public transportation. If you can afford it I would recomend a cab.

Get yourself a copy of LA's free weekly newspaper (available everywhere) called LA WEEKLY. Flip to the back and there's a boat load of AMPS (and some $10 coupons). Most of the better AMPS are in Santa Monica (near UCLA). Just look for places with 310 Area Codes in Santa Monica.
Thai Massages, in my experience, almost never offer "extras". Koreatown is near downtown LA, which is far from UCLA and probably not worth a trip. Stick to places on West Side of LA where most of the girls are Korean anyway.

I know this is long- very long, but bear with me I had to tell someone!
I remember when I was in ROTC in college, the Commandant (a Sergeant Major) used to tell me stories about Germany- Germany this and Germany that… Germany was so great that he married a German woman! Good way to start out in Germany! The Eros places are high volume, not so nice, but, you should try out the FKKs. They are out of this world! They are clubs where you pay an entry fee (about 50 Euros), and then you can pick from something like 100 women. They are very clean and upscale. Also, strip clubs are a big waste of TIME. I prefer strip clubs that are sort of hybrid sports bars (with lots of TVs). Had they not had the game on all those TVs, I would have felt it was time wasted (er, more so).

I think all of you guys that love korean massage parlors will love this report. Looked up LA Weekly magazine and got the address of this massage place. It's in glendale. Opted for BODY WASH massage. Total damage - $75 + $40 for a HJ.

Follow the advice about safety. You don't want to be dicking around with these cops. Bring some form of gov. ID if you want to get back over the border (they don't make that big a deal if you're not Mexican looking as long as you have ID). They used to have bicycles you could rent for $7 or so to help you cheat the line faster, but they took those out, so you might end up standing in line forever on the return trip. Make sure you pick a day you're not in a rush to get back. My friends who went yesterday and returned in the afternoon told me the line was like 4.5 hours long extending past the shops that line the way. Past the crappy construction site. Dressed all in white and smiling, Yuka and Manato stand side-by-side before a pyramid of champagne glasses, framed in an arch of white, pink and red balloons.
"I really love Manato," says Yuka, while a score of black-suited young men kneel before them, chanting loudly.
"I'll never forget this day," he replies.
The scene in the dark, smoky night club seems modeled on a wedding, but no nuptials are under way.
Instead, Yuka is paying around 1 million yen ($8,700) for the champagne the pair pour into the tower of glasses to mark Manato's 25th birthday at Club Raphael, a "host club" where women are pampered by the men of their dreams -- for a price.
Around 150 such host clubs dot the streets of Tokyo's Kabukicho entertainment district, ranging from small ones like Club Raphael to the famed Ladies' Club Ai a few blocks away, where more than 170 gigolos are employed to ply their trade in a glitzy night spot complete with dance floor and band.
"Hosts say things that ordinary guys are too embarrassed to say. They are sweet-talk professionals," says Yuka, 27, fingering the beads adorning her dyed-brown hair.
"This place isn't real," she added. "It's like Neverland."
Host clubs have been around for decades, but in recent years have become the focus of a media blitz that has made them seem more mainstream, if not necessarily respectable.
The TV drama "Yaoh," King of the Night, based on a popular manga comic, was a big hit with viewers before its tale of a host dedicated to "making every woman happy" ended in March.
Top-ranking hosts have turned TV celebrities, and Internet sites and magazines devoted to the topic provide a plethora of information for would-be hosts and nervous novice clients.
"It used to be that women were afraid of getting caught going to a host club, so they went in the back way. Not anymore," Takashi Aida, 66, who founded Club Ai in 1971 and now owns five night clubs in Kabukicho, told Reuters in an interview.
"Now everyone comes in the front," says Aida, flashing four diamond rings, a diamond-studded watch and a diamond tie clip.
FOR LOVE OF MONEY
For hosts like Manato, who worked a string of low-paid jobs before turning gigolo, the attraction of the job is clear.
"I'm not very bright, so this is the only way I can make a lot of money," says Manato, his dyed-brown hair pulled up in a partial top-knot and wearing a subtle smidgen of lipstick.
Popular hosts at Club Raphael can average around $25,000 a month, while stars at Club Ai rake in as much as $45,000 -- almost entirely from commissions on the liquor they persuade their female customers to buy, managers at the clubs said.
"I made as much last month as in three years at my old job" says 25-year-old Kiyomaru, a slender high school dropout who attained No.1 status at Club Ai after 10 months as a host.
Whether hosts provide after-hours services is up to them.
"If customers have money, they can do what they want with the host -- go on dates, go out to dinner, have a physical relationship," Kiyomaru says.
Many hosts drift into the job. Others are looking for a quick fix of funds to start their own business. Some say they enjoy the attention they get, but still don't plan to hang around long.
"I've been on TV. I've been in magazines. People I don't know, know me. I can do what I like. I can be famous," said Kiyomaru. "Now I've reached the top, I need to find a new goal."
Competition is intense to become a top-ranking host like Kiyomaru -- the designated darling of customers willing to shell out wads of cash for a stream of liquor and romantic patter.
LONELY WOMEN
Many hosts, though, drop out after the merest taste of a tough apprenticeship that begins with scrubbing toilets and can include trolling the streets to solicit or "catch" customers.
Even successful hosts tend to quit the business after a couple of years, worn out by the heavy drinking and late hours.
The appeal for female customers is more of a mystery, for all the hosts' talk of making the women feel like princesses.
Night club hostesses and sex industry workers looking to turn the tables after an evening of catering to men account for a large percentage of the clientele, those in the business say.
"I come for a change of pace. Maybe there are people here who want to deceive me, but as long as I know what I'm doing I can enjoy myself," said Reika, 56, a long-time Club Ai customer who runs her own night club nearby.
Students and office workers looking for a thrill and middle-aged housewives and businesswomen with money to spend can also be found smoking and drinking with a bevy of hosts.
"It's the mirror image of hostess clubs," said John Clammer, a sociology professor at Tokyo's Sophia University. "You've got a lot of working women, single, getting a bit older and probably not going to get married, and they can afford it."
Beneath the glitter and ersatz romance, though, lurks a melancholy strain. As Club Ai PR adviser Mitsue Nakumura put it:
"They have money and they have free time, but I think they are lonely women."

Yesterday, when I was grabbing a quick burger, I looked across the street at a tanning salon. I saw a woman go in, who did not look like she was going in for a tan. Well, in the past I've gone for legit tanning sessions. The reason being, my time is valuable, and in one or two sessions, I can get a great tan rather than sitting out in the sun for +4 hours. That is, when I cared about getting a tan.

The now-closed Club La Paz of Inglewood was a tanning salon. The extraordinary services that it provided have been well documented here.
When LP was originally trying to get their tanning salon license, the matter was before, I believe, the city council. One official questioned the need for such a business given the pigmentation of the indigenous population.

Actually, webcams is right. There are a few really high end escort services....the ones that send girls as companions for wealthy businessmen and stuff. Basic pricing scheme is:
