(although have been to the hospital and arrested, both multiple times).
Because boredom doesn't really work too well for me either. Lucky for me one of the things I became addicted to was work. The down side is I can afford almost any addiction. So being able to deal with it became imperative. Not bragging. Just my experience.
But you my friend need to get to a meeting a day. Get a sponsor. And start working some kind of a program. Self help or trying to "control" my addictions never worked for me prior to gaining the knowledge and experience of other ppl just like me. And they are out there. You are far from alone. But you have to take the first step (all by yourself).

I am far from perfect but I am not living in the fear of losing anything (and I have lost everything a few times as well). So things could be worse. I say give it a try. There are plenty of free programs all over town. I would even go to one with you if you asked. Just one.
In summary... while I may have learned to control my behavior and addictions I am still an addict. So I am still in some danger, but not enough for me to go abstinent again or lose any sleep over it.

My post had more to do with old wounds when the addiction was raging in me. I'm at peace with it, but my biggest struggle is the inability to be intimate. This form of repetitive hobbyist behavior has changed my responses and when it comes to women, I'm like a Pavlovian dog, which makes it an uphill struggle to connect with a woman emotionally, and I miss that. I'm currently in therapy and hoping to wind down what has been a very long hobby and find satisfaction with one woman who will understand my history and not be appalled or frightened by it.
I will admit that I've had a helluva of a lot of fun with this lifestyle which has made it hard to give up, but also, a good deal of frustration and doldrums that put me down face-first.

I put her to work doing some cleaning. She wanted liquor. I had some and gave it to her. Asked if she wanted a shower and she did. Let her use my shower. She chose not to put her clothes back on. Asked if she could take a nap & I let her sleep for a bit. Went in to check on her. She asked if I 'wanted to cuddle. ' I said no. Even though I did. She smelled so strongly of alcohol and was so beaten down psychologically, I couldn't do it, even though she had a really nice thick Bush and pretty decent body and it was right there. I gave her some cash and took her back to the liquor store of her choice. On the way back, she said "why are you being so nice to me?" I estimate she was mid-20's, but likely wouldn't live to 30. Could have done anything to her. Chose not to.

And how do you go about doing that?I was downtown last night contemplating similar thoughts. 20 years ago there were 300 people sleeping on the downtown sidewalks and there were 30-40 hookers on 7th Street any time I cruised through, and 15-20 more around 8th and Union. Now, there are an estimated 12,000 homeless down there and in three hours of cruising I saw 9 girls and none of them were worth a second look.
I have had girls that I became friends with that have used my shower and even spent the night, but I am very picky about this. I would never bring a new girl back to my home. Shit. It's a problem getting a bad one out of your car some times. I can't imagine trying to get one out of my house. I would recommend NEVER doing this, especially because you don't want them to know where you live and showing up at a bad time. I got desperate girls who call in the middle of the night, so I know these girls would come knocking at my door at all hours, or maybe trying to break in if I'm not home.
