OK you pandemic-stuck sneaky bastards, what stories do you tell your wife (or whoever) so you can get out of the house for mongering? So far I've used:

* have to take my laptop to the office for a security scan.

* have to get my company badge re-programmed.

* helping a friend who messed up his knee.

I've got a hobby that has me regularly going out to the store to grab things and then shoot the shit with friends at those stores, so that can take up a bit of time.

I've also used work-related excuses of needing to grab something from a coworker that we didn't want to transmit over the network.

I normally like to read. So I been telling people I drive to a nice secluded spot to read. Only problem is what excuse to use to do an overnight.

I try to go into the office once every couple weeks now and those are my mongering days. Otherwise, I try to squeeze in time if it's a weekend and I stack my schedule with errands to Lowes, HD, etc and I work in one hour pit stop.

For those mongers out there who have a shared bank account, what are you saying about pulling out cash regularly? It used to be easy when businesses weren't actively saying "please pay with card only". I don't go out enough to justify spending the kind of money more than once a month or more.

I don't go out enough to justify spending the kind of money more than once a month or more.I setup a seperate account with the mailing address at my place of employment. I have 250 $ a week go in as direct deposit and everything else goes into our joint account. This adds up to 500 a month and provides plenty of budget and gives me the ability to pull cash without answering questions on where I spending a few hundred here and there. That account has now grown to several thousand since I'm not a weekly monger, so it gives me plenty of budget for higher end options if I travel for work and eventually a casino budget as well.

Takes time to save. But it goes unnoticed.

A separate direct deposit stream is ideal. I have a credit card from this acccount and do everything online with a separate email account. I have a fake linkedin account and ov er years have a fake online persona.

Excuses. Started few hobbies many years back. Fishing, squash, used to play league. And allows me excuses to go to gym daytime and for tournaments / league matches overnights. But all these started innocently much before mongering days and now is all set and helps me with my sugar lifestyle. Of course pre-pandemic, you could work related travel as an excuse.

At grocery store, take out cashback every so often. Goes unnoticed and excuse is to carry some cash.

Believe Red Roof and Motel 6 will take cash in lieu of a credit card. However, they aren't exactly classy or joints. I've also seen some hotels taking a credit card as security and accepting cash at check out. My concern is staying anonymous and not leaving a trail. Not sure if the credit card hold will not show up on the next billing statement either. Anyone have any experience or ideas?

Anyone have any experience or ideas?Reserve with your card if you need to, just pay with cash when you check out. Do not use your loyalty account as well. The charge will fall off in hours.

Not sure if the credit card hold will not show up on the next billing statement either. Anyone have any experience or ideas? Why would a hold show up on a billing statement, when, by definition, it is not a charge? Also, most hotels don't usually charge the card on file unless it's a no-show. Unless it's a prepaid reservation, authorizations don't usually occur until check-in, when you can preemptively pay in cash, if they accept it.
