Spent some serious time cruising today - saw some activity; nothing that really floated my boat though.

Went up and down JD 1-1:30pm today. I've been cruising JD for a couple of years now and I've NEVER seen this large an LE presence. However, it isn't quite as large as it looks, since a number of the marked cars are simply decoys sitting empty to scare you. Anyway, only saw one wsw, pretty young and hot, but hanging out with her BIG pimp just a couple feet away. No thanks! That was at Ruffin.

After leaving work a bit late I decided to take a swing by Chamberlayne Ave and see what was available. I also started carrying a digital camera, which I'm discovering is a lot harder to use while driving than I thought. Near Wickham I saw a new young WSW. WaterdogI must be driving the wrong streets, because Chamberlaine is sporadic at best whenever I go by. If you're into TV's, this is the street for you, but I bet you're NOT into TV's.

The long delay between pressing the button and actually getting the picture is a common problem with earlier and/or less-expensive digital cameras. (Weak batteries can cause it to get a little worse, but batteries are not the cause of this - it's a function of the camera's design.) Most higher-end digitals will have a "quick-shot" mode, but generally the camera needs a little time to measure the light and establish the exposure and focus, so the shots you take in this mode hurriedly while driving are unlikely to be very good. A really good camera (Canon Rebel EOS, Nikon 70, etc) can do it, but who wants to be trolling the stroll with a camera in the car that costs half a G-note?

If you want a camera for this particular job, review the cameras you're considering for the shortest shutter delay. But don't expect your current camera to get materially better at this.

I'm just speculating, but LEO must have more to do than it can, so it will prioritize where to spend time and resources. For the most part SWs are not high on their radar screen - except when the politicians see an advantage to putting them there. Mayor Wilder is a consumate politician and he sees an advantage right now, so vice enforcement is increased. Once that decision is made, most LEOs can see what we're seeing and a whole lot more (and know without reading the board where to go). The fact is, when you know what you're looking for, whether you're pursuing or not, the SW stands out. She kind of has to in order to get business. Richmond has more LEO than we have mongers (lurkers included, I'd guess) and they must see a lot more than we do. The good news is this kind of heat doesn't last too long as a rule and when its gone, it should be really gone for a while. But then again, I'm just speculating.

I was going to give it a closer look but she jumped into another mongers truck so no face report. Not great situational awareness on the part of her or the monger. He stopped in the right lane and held traffic up for her to hop in. There was a marked LEO about 4 cars back (right behind me!) and an unmarked LEO coming in from the trailer park side street (I could see him from my vantage). They zoomed off and u-turned without either LEO following. Hope it turned out OK.

Further North near Bellemeade was a new face that I found even more interesting. Longer red/brown hair in a white Tee that showed a decent rack, and a pair of jeans that showed a nice rear view. She actually looked like a possible HSW, but closer examination would be needed to confirm. Her face was not bad, maybe a bit of old acne scaring, but hard to tell. On my first pass I was not sure she was working, but the quick duck in to the pay phone was hint. On my second pass I got the look and a little wave, but by then it was too late to get over. At least I knew she was in the game. I circled the block just in time to see her hop in a van with another monger and head off. I give her a solid 7-8 on the drive by SW scale. Hopefully it looks as nice up close. Will look for her again.

2 sentenced for roles in call-girl business

Telephone operators scheduled meetings for escorts, customers

Two women who pleaded guilty in federal court to making appointments for prostitutes in Richmond from a telephone call center in South Carolina were each sentenced Friday to three years of probation.

Rita McDonald, 33, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and O'Neal Johnson, 64, of Surfside Beach, S.C., pleaded guilty June 23 in U.S. District Court in Richmond. The charge is conspiracy to use the facilities of interstate commerce - the phone system - in aid of racketeering.

They worked as telephone operators in Surfside Beach for a now-closed business that operated in Richmond called Exclusively Yours Escorts.

When a man in the Richmond area called the toll-free number, an operator would answer. The operator would make an appointment for the customer with one of the company's escorts, usually in some hotel along the Broad Street corridor in Henrico County.

Authorities said Exclusively Yours Escorts operated as a call-girl business from 1994 until fall 2004. It employed about 75 women as prostitutes. From April 1999 until July 2003, the managers took in about $1.6 million.

In her sentencing hearing Friday, Johnson said she had some seniority at the call center, since she worked there seven years after getting the job through a newspaper ad.

She said she trained other operators in what to say to customers. Once, she accompanied the female operator of the business to Richmond to photograph escorts who worked for Exclusively Yours for the company's Internet ads.

"I am so sorry that I answered that ad in the newspaper," Johnson told the judge before sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Maguire asked the court for a lenient sentence for Johnson who, along with others charged in the case, is cooperating with investigators still working on it.

Judge Robert E. Payne told Johnson that her crime is a serious one.

"You and others who operated that call center committed I don't know how many young women to ultimate degradation," Payne said. "If you had not done what you did . . . they wouldn't have suffered degradation and disease and the other ills that accompany prostitution."
