Pelham official arrested in prostitution sting

Nashua – The head of the Pelham conservation commission was arrested this week as part of an undercover prostitution sting conducted by city police.

In total, 14 people have been arrested on prostitution charges since last summer, police said yesterday. Seven women have been arrested on charges of solicitation of prostitution, and seven men have been charged with offering money for sex services.

Robert Yarmo, the 51-year-old conservation commissioner, was arrested Wednesday at the Holiday Inn after he allegedly offered money for services to an undercover officer, said Nashua Police Sgt. Scott Childs. He is free on his own recognizance, pending his arraignment next month in Nashua District Court.

Police said they primarily used popular Web sites in the stings. An undercover officer, known as a “John,” would contact women through sex advertisements, saying they were in the city for the day, Childs said.

The two would then meet up at a rendezvous, likely a hotel or motel. The undercover officer would then make the arrest after a deal was agreed upon. Police reversed the roles to collar people allegedly seeking to pay money for sex, Childs said. Police said the arrests are part of an ongoing effort to curb prostitution within the city.

The other six men who have been arrested are: Scottie Cordeiro, 22, of Merrimack; David Altobelli, 49, of Hollis; Michael Mullin, 28, of Nashua; Robert Chien, 37, of Lowell, Mass.; Sean Coleman, 26, of Nashua; and Rue Camara, 21, of Lowell, police said.

The seven females arrested are: Stephanie Byrne, 24, of Manchester; Andrea Lisboa, 22, of Nashua; Jennifer Boccelli, 23, of Brockton, Mass.; Kathleen Wallace, 45, of Manchester; Lesly Caceres, 19, of Boston; Tammy Ash, 35, of Salem; and Omairia Jones, 35, of Lowell, Mass., police said.

Yarmo could not be reached for comment yesterday. It was unclear whether Yarmo would reapply for another three-year term on the commission. His term expires this year.

Selectmen Vice Chairman Harold Lynde said the board of selectmen will likely appoint and reappoint members to the commission by April 1. He said he has not yet seen any names come forward for the open slots, but residents usually don’t apply this early.

Lynde said he was surprised to hear about Yarmo’s arrest. He said he appreciates all that Yarmo has done for the town as a commissioner and has enjoyed working with him.

“He’s put a lot of hours in, doesn’t get paid for it, (and tries) to make the town a better place,” Lynde said. “So, he gets high marks from me for his efforts.”

'Tis the season when I stop visiting a variety of AMPs because they have historically refused to keep the thermostat at a reasonable temperature for late Fall / Winter / early spring.
