Police arrest over 100, both young and old, in prostitution sting

LAWRENCE -- More than 100 people, ranging in age from 18 to 77, were charged last week with propositioning undercover officers posing as prostitutes.

The four-day prostitution sting netted 102 arrests -- including one man on his 19th birthday. Almost all were charged with either soliciting a prostitute, sexual conduct for a fee, indecent assault and battery or open and gross lewdness.

"This is part of a major operation going on now in Lawrence involving a number of quality-of-life issues," police Chief John J. Romero said. "If you look at the number of people arrested, about half of them came from other cities, towns and states."

In many instances, he said, those people come to Lawrence looking to buy drugs as well as the services of a prostitute.

"We are finally starting to see nice weather and we want to send a message early in the spring that we will be on top of these issues throughout the summer, Romero said. "We want people to get the message not to come to Lawrence to solicit prostitutes or buy drugs."

The suspects were all taken to Lawrence District Court where an assistant clerk, Magistrate Bruce Brown, said the bulk of the cases were dismissed on payment of $200 in court costs.

The stars seemed to be aligned last night as I left work and headed up 93 to my old stomping ground, Lawrence. It was the end of the month, the weather was nice after days of rain and the sox were on the radio. It was 8pm, a good cruising time for Lawrence, whick in my opinion, sucks after 10 pm.

Getting off the highway and heading up 28, there was no foot traffic. All the way to downtown, nothing. Did the swing up Haverill Street. The usual gangs of dope pushers were non-existant. So were the SW's. Nobody. Headed back to the main drag, by Daigle's. For the first time in my memory, the side door was shut and no one, bums, drinkers, etc., was milling around. Took the left by Drunkin Donuts and did the swing around Essex, No one, no bums, elderly people, punks, NADA. Headed towards Wendy's. The same NADA.

Yep, they cleaned up Lawrence all right. It was a ghost town. People must be afraid to go out. I swear I felt like I had the only car on the road. I haven't seen anything like this since I went to Turkey and it was under martial law.

Well, maybe when the mercury rises the people will revolt. Maybe the SW's won't come back, but it would be nice to see the city come back to life. I thought I would at least see the "fiesta" enviorment that I love when go to Hispanic areas. But No. How depressing.

Thought that would be the only action but saw a rather attractive Chiquita about 5'7 135. Looked very nice gave me the eye. I looped around and she crossed the street and got into another car. This was around 12:30 - 1:00 AM

I took a spin through Lawrence early Sunday evening, nothing doing on B-way from Essex St. up towards Methuen or any of the side streets. One chick with an AWSOME body wearing a long sheer dress walking on Salem St. off of South Union, aviator glasses, so-so face but she looked so available. Don't you love that look when the sun is behind them? I could just about make out the kind of underwear she had on. Simply magic. I cruised by looking to make eye contact, and striking out, I just pulled up and asked if she needed a ride. She just ignored me but had this huge smile on her face the whole time. Either strung out or she thought I was a cop. Speaking of which, LE was pretty heavy.

Hey, I agree Bill B. was a fun read but towrads the end there I think he started drinking his own coolade and became just a little self rightious and the pissing match he had with CH was uncalled for. Truthfully though, he did share with me as I did with him some great connections. He maybe just lurking or taking a financial or health break just as I have been doing of late.

But I may soon be in the game again...I have been spending most of my time with higher priced escort type ladies.

yep, after the Eagle Tribune or the Sun ran that article, WSF just thinned out. The lack of action hasn't helped either.

Cruised Sunday afternoon and saw at least a half dozen ugle/fat SW's. One HSW had a nice body, but when I followed her intp McD's, I got a good look at her face. EWWWWW!!!! Saw a fat WSW by DD's, almost picked her up, but the big head said no. They tend to migrate towards the Daigle's area. I saw another HSW shaped like a bowling pin, and yet another who was "way past her prime", if you know what I mean. They are out there, if you have no standards.

and the old crew was back. Yep, Mary is back on the beat. Lawrence was pretty much deserted, it was 2pm. I parked my car on Essex and walked around. I picked up an older WSW I had done a few years ago and got a "Meatman" bbbjtcim behind a dumpster for a Jack. She also told me that the HSW's are back on Haverill and Lowell Streets at certain times.

Side note: The new train station is just about done. And it looks sharp! Congrats to Lawrence for abandoning the old train station and basically moving down town about a mile up the street.
